I don't think this sort of thing can be broken down into a system like adb thinks it can but I can totally see where he's coming from. Good advice I got recently was that even if you think someone isn't interesting or you wouldn't want to engage them, just do it anyway for the sake of it, because you aren't obligated to ever talk to them again after your first exchange if you really don't want to.

Life just happens. You can deliberate all you want about it and still get nowhere near where to wanted to be because you never took initiative to do anything about getting anywhere.

Honestly, adb, I would recommend you try something new like say, once a week, because if you don't like it you don't have to ever do anything related to it again and if you do, congrats, you just opened another door for yourself.
