So turns out the version of As I Am I have been listening to for the past year+ isn't the real version (Although seriously, the lyrics are "As I Am!"), I got Live at Budoken, and the real version of As I Am (Obviously...), I can see what you guys mean about LaBrie trying to rap now, very bad effort on his side.

But still, this version of As I Am I have is pretty good, I definately thought it was Dream Theater (And still probably do!), so if anyone knows who does it, that could be cool....

My version is 3:34, starts off with some cool ambience, then breaks into crunching riff, with a sort of 'solo' or interlude coming off through guitar, then breaks into another 'solo' before the singer starts singing.
There's lots of cool guitar effects during the verse.... The singer tbh sounds a bit lower then LaBrie in parts (I always thought it was Portnoy :/)
There's a bass solo before the end (I always thought Myung :()

I actually prefer the guitar in this song to what I have heard from the Budoken As I Am.

My guess would be Superior - Not With Me.

Chu 02-09-2006 07:44 PM

I can upload it, but where should I upload it to?

It's a very good song, and if the band who does this song has any more work like this, I can definately see a new favourite band!

The file has been sent :)

Jev 02-10-2006 01:52 AM

It's probably by the same guys who did the version of This Dying Soul that I thought was the real thing for a while. Some guy posted who it actually was a little while back.

Petrucci 02-10-2006 10:30 AM

lol no seriously guys i want to get rid of these tickets! and i just bought tickets to the show in Anaheim too haha. i don't want to have to spend money on a trip to SF. :(

My god, lucky bastards.

scenesfromatheater 02-10-2006 11:30 AM

It's annoying, I was trying to find the best set they played on the 8V tour, but all of them except about 3 had Panic Attack, Sacrificed Sons and Octavarium in them...ruins it.

Jev 02-10-2006 11:51 AM

I'd rather have SFAM played than Panic Attack and Octavarium.

Octavarium ruins it? Are you mad?!? Although I'm sure most people would prefer the whole of SFAM as a replacement.

no i haven't.

It's probably your best bet. Chances are very slim that anyone here will buy them.

That was for the second night in Sao Paulo, where instead of doing a classic album like DSOTM or MiJ like they have on this tour so far, they did SFAM. They played Octavarium and such the first night. :eng101:

ghettoeddo 02-10-2006 02:27 PM

the official DT site has the set lists for every show they have ever played...with the exception of a few here and there.

i'm already trying to figure out what my setlist will be when they come here :]
yea i'd rather hear SFAM in its entirety than 8vm, but why not both? as of right now, i would much rather have 8vm as the final encore than PMU/metropolis pt. 1

If they did Finally Free/Learning to Live/A Change of Seasons as an encore it would be beyond awesome.

GenuineImitation 02-10-2006 03:15 PM

That set list makes me wonder what songs they will play for the DVD.
That set list makes me wonder what songs they will play for the DVD.
Yeah, you're really lucky you're going. If the setlist is anything like Live Scenes From New York you'll get the concert of a lifetime.

GenuineImitation 02-10-2006 03:23 PM

I hope it is.

Waiting is driving me crazy. I think about it non-stop and I am loosing sleep because of it.

Tails 02-10-2006 03:39 PM
That set list makes me wonder what songs they will play for the DVD.
My guess is a standard song from every album like they've done on all the shows this tour from Majesty Demo ----->ToT
Something like:

The Glass Prison
(ToT song)
Another Won
A Fortune in Lies
UAGM
Caught in a Web
Lines in the Sand/Hell's Kitchen (heh I wish)
The Spirit Carries On
Losing Time/Grand Finale
----------
Octavarium(album)
----------
Some special finale

Aaron_Of_Oz 02-10-2006 03:44 PM

I would love to go to a Dream Theater concert, trouble is I don't think they like Australia

Yeah it'll probably be like that. I reckon it'll go in chronological order though.

Question; Gonna buy DT Album...

...Which?

GenuineImitation 02-10-2006 06:08 PM
Question; Gonna buy DT Album...

In order of greatness:

1. Metropolis Scenes from a Memory
1. Awake
1. Images and Words
1. 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence
1. Train of Thought
2. Ocatavarium
3. When Dream and Day Unite
4. Falling into Infinity

All the ones with the number 1 are tied for first (i cant decide). Since you like Opeth, I would say Train of Though.

Stoo 02-10-2006 06:09 PM

Okay Cheers mate. I'll have a think. :thumb:

GenuineImitation 02-10-2006 06:11 PM
Okay Cheers mate. I'll have a think. :thumb:
You could probably sampel some songs from each album off of Amazon, myspace or the bands official homepage.

periculosus 02-10-2006 08:26 PM

honestly guys can somedy help and tell me about the cd some kind of homecoming please

badtaste 02-10-2006 08:28 PM
Question; Gonna buy DT Album...

...Which?
All depends on what type of DT fan you are? There are two main divisions: the metal enthusiasts and everyone else.

If you are looking for awesome riffs, go for 6DOIT, Train of Though, Octavarium. If you're looking for pure DT bliss (including countless musical orgasms), go for Image and Words, Awake, WDADU or Falling into infinity.

I recommend Images and Words as a first album. It consists of various metally bits (mainly Metropolis), tonnes of great solos, tonnes of highly inspirational moments (Learning to live!!!), and generally each song is a song of its own.

nowitzki 02-10-2006 08:56 PM

I'd reccomend SFAM for your first DT album, or possibly ToT if your after something more metal. Every album GenuineImitation ranked as #1 are just incredible though.
honestly guys can somedy help and tell me about the cd some kind of homecoming please
Never heard of it, what do you know about it?

ghettoeddo 02-10-2006 09:02 PM

tonnes. haha you aussies :]

so i did research on the recent asian setlists and i've concluded that their NA setlist will go something like this if it follows a general pattern:
set 1:
1) The Root Of All Evil
2) Another Won/Never Enough/Panic Attack
3) A Fortune In Lies
4) Under A Glass Moon
5) Caught In A Web
6) Peruvian Skies
7) Strange Deja Vu/Fatal Tragedy
8) Solitary Shell
9) About To Crash (Reprise)
10) Losing Time/Grand Finale
~~~~intermission~~~~
1) The Glass Prison (As I Am)
2) Endless Sacrifice
3) I Walk Beside You
4) Sacrificed Sons
5) Octavarium
~~~Encore~~~
1) Pull Me Under/Metropolis Pt. 1
OR
1) The Spirit Carries On/Learning To Live

not totally happy w/ the choices, but im not complaining. wish they'd do take the time or surrounded though.

GenuineImitation 02-10-2006 09:23 PM

They should remove I Walk Beside You and replace it with In The Name of God.

just know its a limited album that is supposedly recorded live

tracks:
01. Nyc Radio Ad
02. As I Am
03. Honor Thy Father
04. Caught In A Web Pt. 1
05. Mike Portnoy Drum Solo Duet With Scott Rockenfield
06. Beyond This Life Improv Jam
07. The Oakdale Odyssey
08. The Spirit Of St. Louis
09. John Petrucci Guitar Spot
10. Vacant
11. Stream Of Consciousness
12. Disappear

ghettoeddo 02-10-2006 10:15 PM

agreed genuine. i walk beside you is one of my least favorite DT songs ever.

Aaron_Of_Oz 02-10-2006 10:36 PM

Yeah I never really liked 6:00 either
