BNO are good. Trainwreck is a great album.

/goes back to learning pentatonics

K, I know most of the theory behind these, but how are you supposed to make them into solos or whatever..? Do you just kind of switch between modes? Or do you just play around and just make sure you stay in key? Or both?
Is AWS playing this year? I definitely missed them last year. I heard Famous Friends and I was like  so I ran over there, but I missed it. :(
Pentatonics are overdone. But just like any scale/mode...you play them in key usually.

Zach: MBR over Thrice? Shame on you.

Meh. I still need to learn them.

I know most blues scales already. And they aren't really that different :-\

Even on a good day they're not nearly as good as Thrice.

Brandon: If you know Blues scales you're better off with those than pents.

You think? I don't know, Pents seem a lot more commonly used.. I'm not really planning on soloing much anyways. I'd like to learn how to write decent chord progressions but at the moment none of it makes sense to me. I need to get one of those little posters with tons of chords on them or something. I only know like 3 chords :-\

Ugh. I hate not being able to get really good at something fast. I'm so used to it.

*abused

And it's because people are too lazy to figure out what other notes fit well in the key. Pents are more "versatile" because there's fewer notes.

Learn barre chords and you're set. If you can get those you can write the bass and the rest will just fall into place. Scales don't help much with the theory of actual chord progressions.

Hm. Sounds good. I wish I could print something off really huge and then stick in on my wall.. Like a homemade poster. I hate having to look at my computer constantly while trying to learn.

You can see a poster and not your comp? :-\

B 12-13-2005 07:12 PM

Well, it's easier for me to stand up and look at a big picture on the wall than to stand up and look at a tiny little picture on the computer screen. (I find it easier to play standing up)

Useful skill, I sure don't. Master playing standing up and singing at the same time and you are set.

Higher fret access is easier sitting.

I also play with mine low though. My right hand falls naturally onto the bridge when my arm is relaxed. Easy palm-mutes

I can stand up and sing. Now I'm lerning the actual playing part of it :p. But yeah, that is what I planned on.

Question; I'm learning the A minor and major pents. So this means that I'm playing in the key of A right? So then what if I want to play one in C or F? Would I just alter it to fit the key? If so, this is much easier than I thought..

Edit: I play with mine low, and yeah, I do find that the higher frets are a tad more difficult to reach, but nothing that really hinders my ability to play.

Gnarmageddon 12-13-2005 07:25 PM

I play with my guitar at medium length, but I love my bass when it's high up. It looks dumb, but it's so much more comfortable.

cbmartinez 12-13-2005 07:27 PM

yeah i was also going to mention, its easier to play higher up on the neck when you're sitting, but the fartherst I usually ever go is 15 or 17.

Noice.

Yeah, transpose up 3 half steps for C, etc. Same for all scales. Guitar is easy like that.

I feel hindered going for those 3 note bends but that's about it.

Spence: My bro plays his (bass) low...it'd be awesome if he got it low like Trujillo lol.
