Jaundice 01-26-2010 11:53 PM

Ralphie Rivera 01-26-2010 11:54 PM
Doing some peer edits for papers in my history class, this one paper is 4 pages long and has 3 paragraphs... seriously wtf
What a retard.

I'm in a peer review writing class right now where I have to help underclassmen correct and edit their papers. Some people are on a 9th grade reading level.

welcome

Angmar 01-26-2010 11:59 PM

This paper reads like it was written in 20 minutes, with this gem of a sentence:

"Kings in Germanic world limited power by the tribesmen and chiefs who took charge over armies."

Ralphie Rivera 01-27-2010 12:10 AM

thank you meatplow you are quite the ambassador

i used to grade papers for an astronomy class and i remember consistently getting a few groups of 5 or 6 that would have the exact same math work in the exact order and then there would always be one that actually had erasure marks on it. the original was usually a guys and the copies were always females who spelled their names with curlicues and flowers and ****

Angmar 01-27-2010 12:11 AM

I really wanna take an astronomy class.

Ralphie Rivera 01-27-2010 12:17 AM

i'd recommend it, it's incredibly interesting
and, if you're interested in astronomy, this is definitely the time to be alive

Angmar 01-27-2010 12:20 AM

I tried to get into one this quarter called Astronomy 150 Observation of the Planets and Solar System but it filled up, hopefully I can take it next quarter.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 02:29 AM

why does it surprise you that retards get into universities? pretty much anyone that shows up in high school can

Tyler 01-27-2010 02:35 AM

I'm not sure that's really true, at least not here.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 02:39 AM

obviously its exaggerated, but i know very stupid people that go into college. High school is 95% based on how well you listen and follow directions, so it can't really be far off.

Tyler 01-27-2010 02:41 AM

i tend to agree with teh high school thing, it's the reason I transferred into a small, alternative high school. I was bored and complacent doing busy work and **** in a 'regular' high school

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 02:44 AM

I wish I would have done something like that, but the alternative schools we have here are only for if you get kicked out of regular public high schools.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 02:46 AM

what school do you go to anyway

Tyler 01-27-2010 02:47 AM

Yeah, we have alternative schools here like that too, but this was more of a "niche" school or something equally pretentious sounding. It was still part of the school board but they found the curriculum was really, really vague, so they exploited it to have discussion based classes with themes (ie: I took Zeitgeist, Sex Art Amerika and Banned Literature instead of 'English' and 'Graphic Novel' instead of 'Art'). They were really strict with attendance though, and you ended up getting a lot of work, but it was usually big assignments you pitched instead of reoccuring busy work, so it was never a big deal. I was basically failing out of the first high school I went to because I was disinterested and bored so Im really glad I found the alt. school .

I go to the University of Guelph-Humber. I'm in a hybrid program; I'm at a University of Guelph campus that's in Toronto on the Humber College campus, but I also do a dual program, meaning I graduate with both University and College credentials. I get a BA in Media Studies or Mass Communications (I forget which, it's almost 4am) and a Diploma in Journalism.

Had a brilliantly unproductive day. Woke up at like 1ish, took a cab to class because I'm lazy. We randomly had an editor of a trucking magazine come in (he used to edit Chatelaine before, which is hilarious, because going from essentially the Canadian Cosmo to a trucking magazine makes no sense) and for some reason he made us watch Pants on the Ground, and Jimmy Fallon's cover of it as Neil Young (he thought it was actually Neil Young). Then I came home, played 3 hours of Mass Effect 2, ate, then played 3 more hours. Then watched a bit of Firefly, ate again, came on here, "csb" and now I'm going to sleep.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 03:03 AM

Nice dude, that sounds interesting. What kind of a journalist do you want to be when you get out?

Tomorrow I'm dropping off my admissions application to my local college for my LPN degree (lol). I figure I'll get my LPN now and then my RN, which is really what I'd like to do. I mean, male nursing probably isn't the most masculine profession, but they make good money and it's something I've always considered doing. The campus is really nice too - I'm trying to figure out if I want to live there or at home. I'll probably live at home and just keep saving my money to be honest. Who knows though.

Angmar 01-27-2010 03:04 AM

Save up so you can come to Seattle tbh.

NOT UW k!

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 03:05 AM

yeah UW has pretty high standards

Angmar 01-27-2010 03:07 AM

They want you to be smart and active I guess, and it helps if you have a "culturally enlightening" experience, like I just sang about my trip to China and someone in the office of minority affairs probably blushed.

I wish I had done that. If I had known how frustrating my last year of high school was I would have done that.
