American Hardcore. I've never heard of Lexicon Devil. What's it about?
It's about Darby Crash, and the Germs and all that.

SubtleDagger 01-01-2005 02:40 AM
How were they? I keep hearing good things, but the one song I've heard is kinda boring. I'm not bored easily.l
Sound a lot like Converge but they're noisier. I liked, but their record can get kind of tiresome on certain tracks. "Call Me Armageddon" (the title track) is pretty good, though.

They really need to break away from Converge, bad.

EDIT: There are some tracks at www.maximumpunkrock.com.

Dillinger are considired Tech Metal or "Math Metal." Technically, they don't have much grind in them, but their music and the way they play there instruments is very technical, hence the term Tech Metal. Try Between The Buried And Me and Ion Dissonance.
I've read some of that book. I've been wanting to pick it up for a while but every place I go is out of it. I did get some pretty good reads at Barnes and Noble the other day though. One is Solipsist by Henry Rolilns. It's intense. It's basically a bunch of journal-like entries he wrote down over the course of 3 years while living in various cities. All of the entries though are basically like reading thoughts, and the theme of the book is Solipsism, which is basically becoming obsessed with the self and isolating yourself, so a lot of the thoughts in there are just completely cynical, frantic, and at times homocidal. It's really difficult to explain, but it basically makes you feel good about hating people.

The other one caught my eye as I was looking for American Hardcore, actually. It's called Nothing Feels Good (after the Promise Ring album) and it's about the commercialization of "emo" and the culture behind it. It's a pretty interesting and realistic depiction of a lot of these self-proclaimed "emo" kids, the only thing I don't like about it is if you didn't know your stuff before reading the book, the author would reinforce the notions that Dashboard and Saves the Day and stuff like that is emo. He actually calls Weezer's Pinkerton an "emo cornerstone" and even refers to New Found Glory as emo. I mean the book starts off ok because he mentions Rites of Spring and some of the DC band, but the more he gets into the 90's, it really shows he didn't do his research. Although, the author is a writer for Spin, so it's really not that surprising. Aside from the genre crap though, it's a really cool book

Woah, that was way more than I thought I would say.

I went to a huge show down in Florida, big ol' hardcore edger fest. Only real popular or at least up-and-coming band was The Power And The Glory, who are on Deathwish.
So, I read this book called American Hardcore at Barnes and Nobles today, but didn't buy it. It was so awesome though, I think I should. It talked about everyone, Bad Brains, Misfits, Black Flag, etc. and had all these pictures. Man, those shows were violent. Better than anything now I think.
Weird, I was coming into this thread to say I couldn't find it at Barnes and Nobles today. I saw it there before, but now that I have a bunch of gift cards I wanted to buy it and it was gone. The CD selection was the worst, couldn't find one thing. I ended up getting nothing except food. I just bought Weird NJ on the B&N website though, maybe I should've bought this. I still have $25 in gift cards though, next time I go i'll buy it.

I'm still in awe from Righteous Jams. Throughout their set they had to use like 4 different mics because they kept breaking from Joey C's stage dives and what not.

obese_breasts 01-02-2005 01:16 AM

type "first letter of wordrest of word" <--without space after color

or, just use the option labelled "", that way you say words that arent allowed and it looks normal, so get it right next time ye lil shit...haha, just fucking with ye

obese_breasts 01-02-2005 02:11 AM

or you could use the size tag and set it to 2 and it doesn't look any different
or you could use the size tag and set it to 2 and it doesn't look any different
That sucks hardcore. Converge cancelled their show with Thursday because of "impending weather conditions." Now that's lame.

White shows up on the color schemes that have black font. So size is the best.

I didn't think thay were grind at all, ha. i asked for some bands like dillinger, and some grindcore bands that are worth listening to. Oh, and i looked up those 2 bands. sounds good from what i've heard, I'll look into it more. Thanks.

Yeah but Turmoil replaced them, and that rules. And yes, I was talking about the American Hardcore in the link.

cbmartinez 01-02-2005 03:49 PM

Yeah that book is alright. I wish it got into more new school stuff. My friend said he didn't like Turmoil, but he isn't exactly a fan of true hardcore.

NewKindofArmy03 01-02-2005 03:55 PM

Does that book go into bands like 7 seconds and GB or does it just talk about Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, etc.

They're metalcore. It's kind of a big deal because Turmoil played completely by surprise and this was their unofficial reunion show, the big one everyone is excited for not being until April. They broke up a couple years ago, but had a pretty good following. One or two of the guys formed Lickgoldensky after Turmoil broke up.
