"Expensive" stands wont fall apart on you.

Cast cymbals are generally a higher quality metal and will thus sound far better.

Ollie The Drumming Legend 11-09-2006 10:34 AM

I am looking for mid-priced but good quality pair of hihats for playing mostly rock and funk, but generally good all-around. I don't want something really heavy sounding, but equally I want them to be audible unlike some I've seen - I think it was a K or K custom 13" (those are probably too expensive anyway). They would need to sound fairly good open, closed and halfway?
14" A Customs.
Thanks, but can anyone recommend anything a little less expensive. Btw, what are Avedis Zildjian New Beats like, cos I saw 14" pair for sale at £178 or so inc. postage and packing, and was wondering if that's a good deal or how good they are, cos that's less that AA's or AAX's, and most other fairly good cymbals.

Cheers guys.
Hey...
Can someone please tell me the difference between cast cymbals and sheet cymbals(sound and price) because i am planning to buy cymbals in the near future. Also please give me some insight on the brands wuhan and meinl besides the other popular 3.

Since i'am getting cymbals im gonna need stands. so should i go expensive stands of cheap stands. Do they affect the sound of the cymbals.

Thanks for your help.
Sorry for double post, only a new post is the only way I can remember how to quote someone. I don't know much about Meinl, but I have a Meinl Classics 20" Extra Powerful Ping Ride, which is alright but not amazing and is a bit quiet at times tbh, but that mostly depends on what you're trying to do. I think generally they're towards the lower end of the market but i may be wrong.

drummguy731 11-09-2006 03:03 PM

Just remember, you get what you pay for, ok, Imma try this again, anyone know much about the Paiste Sigs, are they any good for jazz?

A customs are about the same price as the regular A's so new beats and mastersounds should cost around the same. I would go with HHX groove hats if i was you. pricey but great for funk and good for rock and it has nice projection. If you cant afford something like HHX i would recommend AA regular hats in traditional finish or AAX stage hats also in traditional finish. Also some A new beats like you said those would be awesome and for that price it doesnt seem too bad a deal.

xs20 are pretty nice. I dont know if they still make them or not but try the b8 pro splashes. those are bad for the price. i bought mine for $25. i still have it, its just not on the kit i moved to a smaller set but it will make its comeback. I recommend that splash. Same with the b8pro chinas....those things are jesus in the flesh. well...not really, more liek a gandhi in the flesh.

How does the 22' K custom Dry Complex ride sound?
It was the one designed by Bill Stewart, I ask because I can get one on sale.

BanninatedbySubtle 11-12-2006 06:13 PM

Like.. you know when you have a nice cup of coffee in a really nice location? It's like that. It's complex, and dark, and smoky, but you can never explain it with words.

Inkstar 11-14-2006 07:10 AM

Yo guys is this a good deal? 13" New Beats for 275USD, which is 360AUD.

Well, things in Australia are inflated if that's where you're buying. But I bought 14" New Beats New for $250 USD.

HeLLmO 11-14-2006 06:19 PM

but he should get quick beats

Oh, so Quickbeats point to the direction of New Beats, as if to guide others there? Okay, that's quite true, I agree.

new beat stick definition? should of called em no beats!
new beat stick definition? should of called em no beats!
well, they're not crisp, but that's what I like about them. While most people like fairly washy rides and crisp hats, I like beefy hats with a definite ride.

Cocaberry 11-15-2006 01:25 AM

I'm thinking about getting an AAX Dry Ride for Christmas. I was gonna just add it to the setup I have now and have two rides.. the washy AAX Stage Ride and the dry ride for when I want more ping.

Does anybody know if the pitch of the AAX Dry ride is lower than the Stage ride? Both cymbals are 20".

Also, will the Dry ride work ok for crashriding?

LoneStarDrummer 11-15-2006 01:36 AM

you could always go onto sabian's website and compare the pitch of the two on there

Inkstar 11-15-2006 02:01 AM

Yo so like, I was thinking about getting those 13" New Beats, but then I just compared the new beats with mastersounds (A, not A Custom) and I much preferred the mastersounds. Is this strange? :p I think most people on here tend to take new beats over others from what I've seen, but yeah..

Btw, the price on the new beats, I added on about 30 or 40 for postage - they're on ebay for $240USD but yeah, I have to get them shipped to Australia.

Also, are mastersounds and/or new beats good for my style of music? I play mostly Dream Theater, so very proggy, yet can be quite heavy at times.

And keeping that style of music in mind (progressive rock/metal), what would be good crashes and rides to get? All I have atm is Paiste 502's cause I'm a stingy bastard, but I really want to upgrade to high end cymbals now.

oliv_da_skinmasher 11-15-2006 02:49 AM

As for the hats I dont think thats strange at all, I mean its all personal choice at the end of the day.

Crash wise I would say go for a nice heavy(not too heavy) crash and I would also advise seeing what you fave drummers from that sort of genre use and then go and test out some of the crashes you like the look and sound of.

Seafroggys 11-15-2006 02:56 AM
As for the hats I dont think thats strange at all
Yes it is.
