I love Animals. Great lyrically, and great instrumentally. Gilmour shines, and Wright has a few great parts, even though he plays much less of a role on it than he does on most of their other albums. Took a few listens to grow on me.
The thing with Floyd is that their great material truly sounds like Pink Floyd's material...but with Animals it just seems like something any contemporary prog rock band could have done. I dunno.
I hate PATGOD. All of you made it seem like it was great, I hated it.

Then again, I don't dig much PF.

np: moe. - Hi & Lo(good song and album)
Yeah, but you like moe., so your opinion doesn't count :p

jpj 10-10-2005 04:43 PM

I loved Animals the first time I listened to it.

It took a few listens for NS to grow on me though.

I've heard good things about PATGOD, so I'm going to try to find it next time I go CD shopping. Which won't be for a while, considering I might be going to see Henry Rollins.
:naughty: did we just have a moment?

thickasabrick 10-10-2005 04:52 PM

I hate listening to Animals. I just plain don't like it. I like the concept, and the lyrics are well-written...but the music is Pink Floyd's worst by far.

Everything Pink Floyd released after the Wall demolishes Animals, musically.

magicbus 10-10-2005 04:56 PM

I don't really like Animals either. I like Gilmour's solo at the end of Pigs, but not much else.

thickasabrick 10-10-2005 04:58 PM

All the music on Animals just seem to distant, Gilmour's solos are usualy so touching, on Animals they seem so impersonal.

JonG 10-10-2005 04:59 PM

Comfortably Numb and Time solos are ones that come to the top of my head when thinking Gilmour.

Illmatic 10-10-2005 05:02 PM

I also like his lead work on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", which tends to go overlooked.

robo2448 10-10-2005 05:04 PM
I also like his lead work on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", which tends to go overlooked.
I don't think that's overlooked. Amazing work though. Definitely some of his best guitarwork. I actually think the solos on Dogs are overrated. The end solo on Pigs is much better.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-10-2005 05:07 PM

It doesn't go overlooked but yes, it is fantastic^

I agree, Gilmour's solos on Animals are impersonal and boring.

Nice user title JonG but Moe. do suck......:p

jpj 10-10-2005 05:10 PM

You all suck.

Animals is awesome.

moe. > Syd Barrett

JonG 10-10-2005 05:14 PM

moe. don't suck. I bet you haven't even listened to 'em :)

Illmatic 10-10-2005 05:17 PM

I've listened to a few of their songs (my gf likes them for some reason :upset: ) and they opened for the Allman Brothers Band when I saw the ABB in August, and that's more than I have ever wanted to hear.

np: Bob Dylan - Temporary Like Achilles

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 10-10-2005 05:17 PM

I have Warts and All volume 1 & 2 and it was sub par and extremly boring. ;)

I have to agree with these guys on this one too, I'm not a very big moe. fan. Now Roy Buchanan, on the other hand...

NP: Roy Buchanan - C C Rider

Could anyone give me any info on the Quicksilver Messenger Service? Album names or something...I know people in here seemed to like them when I used to post more.

Has anyone heard of American English? They're a Beatles cover band from Chicago. They stopped around here last weekend and I went to see them. I recommend checking them out if they ever come around your area. They played around 30 songs. They dressed up in the early black suits, changed into the Seargent Pepper suits, and finished in the Abbey Road clothes. I was jealous of "George." He even had the Magical Mystery Tour Fender that is so awesome.

BigTrav415 10-10-2005 06:00 PM

I've never heard moe. (I had to miss the ABB concert for a fucking soccer game    ), but I'm willing to bet Syd pwns them. Come on, it's Syd Barrett!

/goes to listen to The Gnome

Lunch made a good FA on them. They have some good albums.

Their s/t, Happy Trails and Just For Love spring to mind first.
