Does anyone use the musicbrainz tagger, by the way?
I was just checking Audioscrobbler and went there, what is it exactly?

That is what I was gonna ask.

Also, I don't get it some times. I love my black metal, it's quite simple, but it never gets bashed from the technical aspect of "OMG TEHY DUN SOLO THEY SUXX0R" stuff such as the nu-metal guitarists do...

Personally, I have always believed that the guitarists in nu-metal can play above what people think they can do from what they have showed in their bands. I don't see why people judge these guitarists right off the bat from their music they make in their bands. I personally see bands as a thing to be working together to make music as a whole, not a personal show off time in certain parts of the song. If the music is not meant to have a solo, who cares? I love solos and all, but they are not needed all the time as some people make it out to be. /could go on a pointless rant but I will stop here

munky_magik 03-19-2005 01:46 PM

I don't understand why alot of people are surprised when apparently talentless guitarists prove themselves.
Alot of them have being playing for around 10-15 years so it isn't really surprising.

magicbus 03-19-2005 01:46 PM

I think this musicbrainz thing gives name information to unnamed songs in your playlist so it can show up on audioscrobbler.

Jom 03-19-2005 01:50 PM

Yousendit isn't working for me :(

superpeer 03-19-2005 01:50 PM

That's true, but black metal usually has impressive drumming. But that's right, music doesn't have to be complex to be good, but if you don't make your music complex, you need to have a lot of songwriting skills to make up for that, and a lot of bands, don't have that, which emphasises their lack of technicality.

For example, some metal songs don't showcase good songwriting at all, but because of the complexity of the music, there's still something left to enjoy.

Hope that makes sense

NP : Green day - Holiday (Special Launch Performance), This is actually quite good, I would like to go and see Green day, and I think I just will.

Yea, that made sense, and good point as well.

/likes Greenday

/hides behind teh mod

And actually, I think their new album is a great example of good song writing with a lack of technicallity in it...

superpeer 03-19-2005 01:57 PM

Yeah, it's just a bit sad that they jumped on the 'Let's make mature, "emo" and political songs" band wagon.

That's a really good point. To me, you can fit everything in into a package, where there's good, technical-type playing from most instrumentalists which is challenging and fun to play, and still have it be hooky and cool so that your average listener can enjoy it. I think way too many bands pick one over the other: they either resemble the anti-shredding crowd or the anti-pop-punk crowd, which hit everything that the other one "doesn't have." It's what I try to do when I write songs. I want to write songs that are fun for me to play and are challenging for me to play, but I still think people that don't play will like them.

clearvision 03-19-2005 02:10 PM

With music brainz do you think i will be able to set it up to edit the ID3 tags of my mp3's and just add the genre of each song, so i don't have to fill it in...but leave the albums untouched?

superpeer 03-19-2005 02:13 PM

There's only one way to find out. Let me know what kind of program it is, as well.

Jom 03-19-2005 02:21 PM

YES! YSI is working!

These movies are so funny. They're by Fensler Films, and they dub over those old GI Joe cartoons with random voiceovers... they're so random, but hysterical... you know, the ones that teach kids life lessons like don't play with fire, don't touch a downed electrical wire, etc.
