Yes, i heard Ember To Inferno the other day, i think that most of the track are absolute wank.

But this album, good lord. How much talent? How good are his drum grooves? How much better is he than Mike Portney?

Thin Mints are winning by a landslide in the Girl Scout cookies poll in The Pit.

It was a waste making that multiple choice, then.
Head said, "I just got done writing an instrumental song called "A Letter to Dimebag." He always told me and Munky to put guitar solos in KoRn's music." [sic]
reeeeeeeefl

Cain 03-19-2005 01:09 PM

I saw the video for Dream Theater's song "Pull Me Under" today on VH1 Classic, Metal Mania. James LaBrie had a Napalm Death shirt on, it looked like.

Cain 03-19-2005 01:15 PM
Hahaha look at em' with the Independent shirt. He can't play guitar let alone skate.
Actually, Head is a much better guitar player than Munky. As much as it'll kill the Korn haters, he can do a pretty good job soloing actually. I saw a video of them playing Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2," and Head nailed David Gilmour's solo note-for-note and even vibrato-for-vibrato. His tone was bad, all distorted and chorused, and of course they had the words to the song on the big screen so all the idiot Korn fans that didn't listen to Floyd could sing along, but still, he nailed that solo. That solo's hard to nail too, easy to play but hard to play like Gilmour, but Head did it.

While Head's reasons for leaving Korn are silly-sounding to some, including me (that 50 Cent thing is just stupid) but still, it shows something about Head that he would get fed up with Korn's "artistic direction." I liken it to a much more comical version of Creed essentially kicking out Scott Stapp and reforming as Alter Bridge, except it's just one member leaving.

superpeer 03-19-2005 01:19 PM

Yep, he did get that solo right, I saw it live. :)

Cain 03-19-2005 01:22 PM

I was impressed beyond words. It just destroyed an illusion. Head looks a lot better now, too, now that his dreads are gone. He looks better-fed than he has in photographs too, probably because he's laid off drugs or whatever he did when he was in Korn.

You know, I think a lot of Nu Metal guitarists are better technically than everyone thinks. The problem is, the fact that you can play solos and good riffs is not enough, you have to be able to WRITE them.

Songwriting talent ++

Something all too underrated by the guitar geeks heh.

Too true, Bobo.

You're probably right. I can play a ton of Joe Satriani's solos, for instance, but when I solo, do I sound like him? Do I have the perfect balance between wankery and emotion like he consistently does? No. It takes me a while to compose a good solo that fits.

I like to think that compositionally I have some skill, though.

superpeer 03-19-2005 01:38 PM

Does anyone use the musicbrainz tagger, by the way?
