is the rep I got. My post still says even though, and I nothing seems to have happened to my rep from that post. Weird.

Probably got derepped by a negative user.
:)

I agreed with most of the songs you mentioned, although I was suprised Rime Of The Ancient Mariner wasn't a plus.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a great song, but I prefer both Aces High and Flash of the Blade to it.

led_zep_luvr 02-12-2005 01:12 AM

Phantom of the Opera
favorite maiden song, have only been into them for a couple months though

led_zep_luvr 02-12-2005 01:21 AM

hey im gonna leave soon but i will give you guys/gals something to think about

i haven't heard to many iron maiden songs yet but the ones i do like are the older ones. i think its because i dont like the galloping power chords etc. but i love bruce dickinson's voice its the best of them all. but i think iron maiden had better guitar work in the earlier days

your thoughts?
am i just stupid and don't know shit about iron maiden?

discuss

YDload 02-12-2005 01:27 AM

Iron Maiden became more technical, so they technically had better guitar work in the later years. What you're saying is that you PREFER the older guitar work, and there's nothing wrong with that.

rippa32 02-12-2005 05:27 AM

Sorry if this kinda thing has been said before. I was thinking about getting into Maiden and was wandering what would be a good album to get? I was thinking number of the beast but I would rather ask people who are already into Iron Maiden.

I'd say Somewhere In Time, or Powerslave.

I would go with Number of the Beast, or maybe Edward the Great.

Dannyboy15 02-12-2005 06:06 AM

Edward the great is an excellent choice.

Iron Maiden
Seventh Son
Powerslave

Eddie The Great
Edd Hunter

i would say number of the beast, brave new world or rock in rio (i love that cd)

the_uber_penguin 02-12-2005 07:36 AM

Random trivia:

Since joining the band, Nicko McBrain has had only one song writing credit. Which song, and who did he write it with?

shadow_stalker 02-12-2005 07:44 AM

'new frontier' wrote with Smith and Dickinson

i was tempted to say journeyman

the_uber_penguin 02-12-2005 08:13 AM
'new frontier' wrote with Smith and Dickinson

i was tempted to say journeyman
Correct and repped.

My answer always goes something along the lines of:

"Journeym...I mean New Frontier" as well...I thought I was the only the one.

GurS 02-12-2005 08:15 AM

Wrong, actually.

He's only got one writing credit on an album.

But he's written some of the b-sides, including (I believe) Cross-eyed Mary and Nodding Donkey Blues.

*doffs MA hat*

IAJP 02-12-2005 08:18 AM

Nodding Donkey Blues, is a great tune, I downloaded a few weeks ago, and I love it.

Josh 02-12-2005 11:28 AM

i have overtaken Frail in postcount in this thread.

Eddie-the-Trooper 736
ashman 591
GurS 559
Lord Abortion 420
sack-man 337
FrailandBedazzled1979 334
YDload 161

and i think that new frontier is one of the better songs on DoD

new frontier > wildest dreams > rainmaker > gates of tomorrow

MAthiAS 02-12-2005 11:37 AM

Rainmaker > Wildest Dreams IMO

Paschendale's definitely the best song on there. Then I'd have to say New Frontier, Montsegur, Rainmaker, No More Lies, and Dance of Death.

EDIT: And what happened to Frail by the way?

IAJP 02-12-2005 11:42 AM

I love DoD.

Iron Man 02-12-2005 12:02 PM

I still need to get DoD from my friend...

Firecracker 02-12-2005 12:06 PM

Ah, who likes Montsegur? I bloody love that song.
And Age Of Innocence.

We got two copies of DoD by accident, no matter!

MAthiAS 02-12-2005 12:14 PM

Yeah, Montsegur is an awesome song. Bruce's vocals are killer and the melodies are just plain sick. One of the heaviest songs on that album, too. Age of Innocence, one of Maiden's catchiest choruses, with an awesome verse riff. Great song too. Dance of Death is really a great album, just 80s Maiden > new Maiden.

vashts80 02-12-2005 01:14 PM

I love the DoD song. It's catchy.

"When you're lying in your sleep, when you're lying in your bed and you wake from your dreams to go dancing with the dead
When you're lying in your sleep, when you're lying in your bed and you wake from your dreams to go dancing with the dead"

Catchy.

ashman 02-12-2005 01:41 PM

Montsegur is the Da Vinchi Code in song form...who sad metal isn't intelligent?

Dance of Death for me has to be one of the worst title songs, but the stage show is amazing, especially when Bruce dons the cape and mask :thumb:

Firecracker 02-12-2005 01:43 PM

Right on about the '80s Maiden > New Maiden' thing.
But it's all just too good to compare.

Ok, be here bout 11. :)

the_uber_penguin 02-15-2005 05:38 AM

I think the new Iron Maiden is better, they sound less like a punk band (don't get me wrong, I like punk, but I love metal too) and more unique. Plus they're solo's are noticeably better, they're not using techniques which sound hard but aren't and actually using their mastery over the guitar to get any sound they want.

Plus Nicko and Bruce kick ***.

Stevie 02-15-2005 06:56 AM

Let's do a "Im such a maiden fan I..." thingy...

I'm such a Maiden fan that whenever I see the British flag the trooper pops in my head....(Happened today!)

ashman 02-15-2005 08:43 AM

I'm such a Maiden fan whenever I see someone wearing a Maiden T-Shirt, I demand that they name at least 2 band members (past of present), so I know if they are posers or not; like that Whore from that Britney Spears video :anger:

Cross-eyed mary = Jethro Tull. IM, especially Harris, drew a lot of influence from Tull.

I've heard it, I prefer what it evolved to though (Invaders).

Good list :thumb:

rik 02-15-2005 01:53 PM

Invasion evolved to Invaders? Didn't know that. Invaders is one of my favourite off NOTB. A lot of people don't seem to like it that much.
