DaveTheAmazing 2.0 02-04-2006 08:44 AM

Yeah so I found out who I've been listening to instead of Dream Theater. It's "James Labrie". Anyone heard of him?

Edit: haha on further googling, I have discovered he is DT's singer. Wow I'm retarded.

Jev 02-04-2006 08:53 AM

It's his solo stuff?

DaveTheAmazing 2.0 02-04-2006 08:55 AM

Yeah. It turns out my version of "The Root of All Evil" was actually James LaBrie's "Crucify", and my "Octavarium", actually "Drained". I've checked darklyrics.com, and these songs are on his album "Elements of Persuasion". Have you heard any of it? It's very good.

Jev 02-04-2006 09:00 AM

I haven't hear dit but if it's LaBrie's solo album it's probably good.

The only DT song I've actually heard is "The Spirit Carries On". Any "Greatest Hits" you guys could recommend I get?

Same thing happened to me with Root of All Evil. Crucify's a quality song, though.

True. You wouldn't happen to have a tab of any sort for it?

temporary 02-04-2006 10:28 AM
True. You wouldn't happen to have a tab of any sort for it?
No, but I'm sure you'd turn something up if you googled it. As to tracks you should download, heres a few:

Pull Me Under
Take the Time
Surrounded
Metropolis
Under A Glass Moon
Learning to Live
Erotomania
The Silent Man
Space Dye Vest
Dance of Eternity
Finally Free
The Glass Prison
Disapear
Endless Sacrifice
In the Name of God

Jev 02-04-2006 12:31 PM

It's not a lame name

ghettoeddo 02-04-2006 01:48 PM

well, i hvae the crucify tab actually for powertabs. if you still want it, i can give you it through mail. idk how to work uploading sites.

y'all really need to check out james labre's solo stuff. i'ts great.

Quickdrop 02-04-2006 05:53 PM

Most people never put Lie on their "songs you should download" list. I love that song.

3rdplanet 02-04-2006 06:19 PM

Lie is a fine tune, it's true.

GenuineImitation 02-04-2006 07:03 PM

Lie is a great song. I guess it gets over shadowed by songs like Voices and Space Dye Vest.

IbanezSamurai 02-04-2006 07:35 PM

I didnt like Dye Vest, yep I said it!

Rounder 02-04-2006 07:37 PM

I don't like Lie because of the lryics, and the way they are sung. 'and you can tell your stepfather I said so.' I believe its the only time Ive ever heard stepfather in a song. I didn't like it. In fact Id probably rate the song a lot higher if it just didnt have that part. the breakdown solo part is great.

Rounder 02-04-2006 07:38 PM

my fav on the record next to scarred. the end jam in scarred is one of the best dt jams ever.

Quickdrop 02-04-2006 07:56 PM

I just found the video for Lie on video.google, never knew they made one. It looks like MP is using a Mapex kit in it :(

Rounder 02-04-2006 08:41 PM

What's wrong with a mapex? My brother has a DW custom and a Mapex Orion and he plays the Mapex more.

GenuineImitation 02-04-2006 08:43 PM

The only drum kit I have heard of was Pearl. Im a drumming noob... Im guessing Mapexs is pretty good.

Mr.Metalton 02-05-2006 03:51 AM

I like Lie, but The Mirror is better. I think the Mirror has more feeling to it.

NicetoKnowyou 02-05-2006 10:28 AM

Do they ever play A Change of Seasons in concert? ( sorry off topic)

GenuineImitation 02-05-2006 10:33 AM
Do they ever play A Change of Seasons in concert? ( sorry off topic)
They did on their Once in a Livetime cd. They wouldn't play it all together. They woud open with the Crimson Sunrise, play a few songs, then the next part, then a few more songs. This would continue until they played The Crimson Sunset.

temporary 02-05-2006 10:37 AM
Do they ever play A Change of Seasons in concert? ( sorry off topic)
Yeah, they play the whole thing as an encore on Live Scenes From New York. Its an increadible performance.

Np: Scarred

You mean the actual video they made or a live video?
The quality of the video they made on Google video is terrible.

HazMan 02-05-2006 12:07 PM

I been listening to Octavarium a lot thats a great album. I have a handful of songs such as the Silent Man and The Glass Prison which i love to bits. Any recommendations for what albums to start with this band?

If you like The Silent Man, check out Awake. It has a Mind Within Itself on it which is three songs that do together and The Silent Man is the third one. Also it has some great songs on it. If you like DT's more heavier stuff check out Train of Thought and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, their most heaviest albums. Of course get Images and Words which is their best CD and Live at The Budokan, which I am told is their best Live DVD, I haven't gotten it yet.

Live At Budokon is also a cd. You should get it, the production is amazing.

Oh right, never knew that. I'd get it but unfortunately I need to raise £80 a month for a trip to Russia and nowhere will employ me until the end of June and the end of my Exams.

HazMan 02-05-2006 12:23 PM

Thanks people. I like their mellow stuff like The Spirit Carries On as much as the heavier fare like The Glass Prison, they are a truly amazing band from what i have heard. Took a bit of warming up to though.

Jev 02-05-2006 12:25 PM

Yeah, I have to say when I first heard them I was heavily into 'Tallica and I found them boring but after a while I began to love them.

GenuineImitation 02-05-2006 12:40 PM

Of the cds we listed, you really cant wrong. You'll love them all.

Quickdrop 02-05-2006 02:52 PM
I like Lie, but The Mirror is better. I think the Mirror has more feeling to it.
Mirror is great, but personally it got really old quick. It doesnt have the variety of the other DT songs, it basically sounds the same the whole way through.

And btw, i dont dislike Mapex. I just prefere Tama (since i own one).:thumb:

exactly what happened to me.

tallica--> dream theater.

im glad i made the switch.

waht is this thread doing on the 2nd page? im disappointed guys ;)

Jev 02-06-2006 01:39 AM

I'm so glad I didn't stay a Metallica fanboy. I still know loads about the band but I realised they're not the best band about by far and that DT are an example of a better band.

Romanticide 02-06-2006 01:44 AM

off topic...

right at the end of Scenes from a Memory...when u hear the TV on...it is Nicholas right?

sorry just needed to know.

and also...is it just me, or in the 8th minutes of home, is there not some chick moaning in the background?

can someone explain?

Jev 02-06-2006 01:50 AM

The end with the TV in the background is Nicholas yes.
The chick moaning in Home is Victoria because she is having an affair with that guy's (i can't remember the name it's either The Miracle or The Sleeper) brother.
