It is a soccer crowd. Echoes > life

MBS 08-12-2005 10:16 PM

I obsess over Meddle, it's such a great album.

magicbus 08-12-2005 10:33 PM

I love Meddle. It was the first vinyl I ever got, and the only Floyd one I have. I love it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-12-2005 10:43 PM

Man, Echoes, their greatest hits compilation only has the first 18 minutes of Echoes. How fucked up is that? I mean, you name the freaking compilation after the song, but you only include part of it?

/slaps record company

Man, that totally sucks, I didnīt know that. Thatīs why I usually refuse to buy compilations, most of them suck a lot.

Yeah, that is pretty weird.

MY INTERNET IS FAST AGAIN!
Personally, I think Echoes is one of Floyd's more average "jam/epic long-*** songs" It's not bad, no, it's good. I just think stuff like SOYCD and Dogs are a little more... I don't know. Echoes just feels too, empty or something. It's a good song to just vibe to (or I'm sure to most Floyd listeners outside this thread, get high to), but others just seem to have more feel in them.
I actually disagree, I love Echoes, although I think you right that Shine on Is Better. I'd say for Pink Floyd epics:

1.Shine On You Crazy Diamonds
2.Pigs (I'm not sure if you can count this, as its only 11 minutes)
3.Echoes
4.Atom Heart Mother
5.Dogs

I have "Obscured by Clouds" and "The Wall" on viynl, thats it though.

I kinda agree with you there. But my list would go like:

1-Echoes
2-Shine On You Crazy Diamond
3-Would "A Saucerful Of Secrets" count? if not then "Pigs"
4-Atom Heart Mother

I love Echoes. That song owns me.

The bootleg you're going to upload, what's on it?

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-13-2005 04:13 PM

1. Shine on...
2. Dogs
3. Echoes

Prince of Darkness 08-13-2005 04:28 PM

I dont like any of the Animals songs. Altough I LOVE all other Pink Floyd songs.
Shine on is amazing and I recently started listening to Meddle. and I love it. Echoes.Great.

ATM 08-13-2005 04:30 PM

Not to start a fight, but how can you not like Animals?

Jawaharal 08-13-2005 04:41 PM

in no particular order

echoes
time
any colour you like
pigs
wish you were here
see emily play

Prince of Darkness 08-13-2005 04:45 PM
Not to start a fight, but how can you not like Animals?
I'm sorry, but maybe it's TOO experimental for me and that rarely happens. I will deffanatly give it a relisten just to check again.

ATM 08-13-2005 04:55 PM

Yea, give it another try.

It's an excellent album, IMO.

robo2448 08-13-2005 05:38 PM
Yea, give it another try.

Definitely give it another try. Amazing lyrics and excellent guitar-playing by Gilmour. Pigs is probably my favorite from Animals right now, but it, Dogs, and Sheep are all very close. It took me a couple listens to love it. Every Pink Floyd album requires a couple listens before you judge it.

Six Foot Revolver 08-13-2005 05:40 PM

Animals is probably my favourite Floyd album and possibly one of my favourite overall albums too

Yeah, thats true. But it's very different to all the other PF material. My Favourite PF might sound cliche, but The Wall, is my all time favourite album. its even better than Tool and Opeth and Dream Theater. It owns. agree?

The solos on Dogs get me everytime (the first one especially)

Prince of Darkness 08-13-2005 06:09 PM

animals is starting to impress.....Me likes it so far

emo=elmow/otheL 08-13-2005 08:20 PM

Animals was the first album I ever listened to. I was in 6th grade at the time and I was obsessed with it. It actually had Meddle on the other side too. But anyway I listened to it so many times my mom got mad and made me listen to something else, because she was tired of hearing it.

Hey, do any of you guys find it kind of sad that kids coming up nowadays and in future years will quite likely never hear stuff like Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath or other classic rock stuff? I mean think about it. These bands that were so original, and had so much talent, and the recognition they get just goes down and down.

Sort of, but I feel it is my role to spread the great music of yesterday to everybody around me. I've already turned 3 of my friends into almost bigger Floyd fans than I am.

In the near future, there probably won't be any more instruments. Everything will just be electronic and virtual. Songs will just be electronic jamboree's of various drum beats with off-key robotic vocals.

/realizes this is probably true :upset:

It's not "average" by any length IMO. Why would you say outside of this thread? I'm a HUGE Floyd fan and I love to toke up while hearing it. It fits the mood perfectly. Just because we go in this thread it doesn't mean we're more sophisticated or better of a fan of them.

Top 3 Floyd Epics:
-----------------
1. Echoes------------------\
2. Intersteller Overdrive-----/ These 2 often rotate as my favorite song of all music.
3. SOYCD

thunderzstruck 08-13-2005 09:28 PM

I don't know the more I listened to animals, the less is started to impress me. It's a very stripped down album, very raw. I'll listen to it later tonight

Purple Floyd 08-13-2005 09:28 PM

Is Echoes on it?

At least what Era is it?

Riva 08-14-2005 01:23 AM

A medley with Echoes is on Prism. It's a great bootleg, 2 discs.

Scooch 08-14-2005 01:32 AM

I'd say the Atom Heart Mother Suite is the most under rated Floyd song. It is an amazing song that doesn't recieve much mention.

The Taxman 08-14-2005 01:48 AM
Hmm...well where to start...Floyd is amazing. The part in Comfortable Numb that goes "Is there anybody in there?" was kinda eerie the first time I heard the song.
I hate to tell you but both albums are pretty eerie.

I always found it a bit boring. I just have trouble getting into it. I enjoy it, just not as much as most other Floyd albums. But, I haven't listened to it in awhile, I'll give it another shot.

Alessandro 08-14-2005 08:45 AM

I donīt like AHMS, I think itīs kinda boring for a 25 min song. Although Gilmourīs small guitar solo is awesome.

temporary 08-14-2005 10:38 AM

I used to not like Animals so much, but then it really grew on me. Sheep used to be my favorite song, but now its Pigs.

WheepingGuitar39 08-14-2005 12:17 PM

(I uploaded 'Prism' for you a while back)
and I uploaded the whole Pulse concert, all 1.5 gigs of it

i cant wait to see what this bootleg is
i used to have so many AMAZING bootlegs of the floyd, video and music, but most of them have been lost, and a part of me died ever since.

WheepingGuitar39 08-14-2005 12:19 PM

I'd just like to know something from you guys
your top 3 guitarists
assuming Gilmour is your first :p

mine would look something like
1: Gilmour
2: Clapton
3: Frampton

long live David Gilmour.

Purple Floyd 08-14-2005 12:26 PM

1. Gilimour
2. Vai
3. either Satch, EVH, Clapton, or Pat Metheny
