Yeah, I thought it was a fitting comparison. I didn't think III was too bad, but II definately won't get any repeated watchings from me.

Riva 07-02-2006 07:25 PM

I don't have the stamina to keep up this posting battle. I need some breakfast.

I'll give a listen to Falconer again, since I do think they are very cool.

Nepenthe 07-02-2006 07:28 PM

I know, I'm having trouble continuing on.

Make sure it's Sceptre Of Deception.

Stormrider 07-02-2006 08:16 PM
Storm, I highly recommend you getting Falconer's Sceptre Of Deception. You bringing them up has reminded me how good it is.

NP: Falconer - The Coronation
Seriously, one of the greatest power metal tracks ever
Well, I'm going to get the one from the Daily Upload. Which is a self titled.
The clarion call is still my favourite Falconer song, it's one of the best choruses ever written, it's up there with Vain glory opera, soldiers of the wasteland and primo victoria
Vain Opera Glory \m/ Primo Victoria \m/

I'm so glad I discovered Sabaton recently.

Nepenthe 07-02-2006 08:17 PM

Eh, the self titled is good, but it just doesn't compare. Most people prefer Blad on vocals, but I think I like Gobel alot better.

Stormrider 07-02-2006 08:19 PM

If I like it, I'll look more into their stuff. I'm glad they're not very cheesy though, atleast, the way you described it. I could handle cheese, but too much is too much.

Shattered_Future 07-02-2006 10:46 PM

Sabaton? Not cheesy?

Dude, they wrote about ****ing DDAY, for Christ's sake. How you could get a song out of that is beyond me...

Steerpike 07-02-2006 10:58 PM
Sabaton? Not cheesy?

Dude, they wrote about ****ing DDAY, for Christ's sake. How you could get a song out of that is beyond me...
Well, we've gotten movies out of it, so why not a song?

Riva 07-02-2006 11:27 PM

It's a good song. They wrote about a bunch of submarines on patrol, which is a pretty damn dry topic, I'd think. They're just awesome story tellers/history majors.

Lord Abortion 07-03-2006 06:11 AM

Yeah, plus Wolfpack is a supremely excellent song.

To be honest, it's a good thing that these sort of topics are sung about, it certainly encourages me oto learn more about the History of the battles being described.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2006 10:04 PM
Well, we've gotten movies out of it, so why not a song?
I dunno, it just seems rather...cheesy to me.

Nepenthe 07-04-2006 12:12 AM

It's definately alot cooler than feelings and emotions.

Steerpike 07-04-2006 12:24 AM

I was planning to play Primo Victoria for the Fourth of July, but my grandparents have this thing with metal...

Think about it. It's a holiday celebrated with barbecue and explosives. Play metal about WWII. You increase the machismo factor by at least 4.

Lord Abortion 07-04-2006 04:47 AM

That's true, setting random stuff on fire should too.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-04-2006 04:53 AM

Lighting stuff on fire ftw

shadow_stalker 07-04-2006 05:04 AM
I dunno, it just seems rather...cheesy to me.
its a good thing Sabaton made the songs rather than an american band, who would stretch and bend the truth until they were singing about the glory of America saving the world, that would be alot worse than cheesy

Lord Abortion 07-04-2006 05:20 AM

The Glorious Burden FTW....

Steerpike 07-04-2006 11:41 PM

I gave 3 Inches of Blood another try. I still wouldn't recommend them to someone who's new to power metal, but I should still pick up Advance and Vanquish sometime in the near future.

OrChazzmicExperience 07-05-2006 12:09 AM
The Glorious Burden FTW....
Haha. y0, what's your avatar?

Riva 07-05-2006 03:49 AM

So, I've decided Falconer have friggin' awesome album covers. Whoever the artist is, he has a really distinctive style.

Stoic 07-05-2006 03:53 AM

The self titled album cover in particular is fantastic.

Riva 07-05-2006 03:59 AM

It inspired me to resurrect my old Justicar in Imperian.

Stoic 07-05-2006 04:02 AM

Your what?

Riva 07-05-2006 04:07 AM

A justicar is a paladin of sorts, but they nominally wield two longswords. Imperian is a MUD.

Stoic 07-05-2006 05:00 AM

haha I got it!

Guys, have you downloaded the new Blind Guardian?

Riva 07-05-2006 05:14 AM

Nah. I will be purchasing the new album, probably.

Man, Justicar is an awesome name for a Power Metal band.

Lord Abortion 07-05-2006 05:16 AM
Haha. y0, what's your avatar?
It's the just released artwork for the next Iron Maiden album, A matter of life and death, released in September, being a complete Maiden nut, this has got me in a high state of excitement.

I need to get more Falconer, but out of the two albums I got at the time, and so relate to each other, CFAVF and Human Fortress' Defenders of the crown, I prefer the Human Fortress.

Riva 07-05-2006 05:20 AM

I'd rank the S/T and Sword Of Deception above Chapters From A Vale Forlorn, in terms of both cover art and music.

Stoic 07-05-2006 05:23 AM

Ollie, is it true that this will be Iron Maiden's last album. I think Steve said there will be 15 Iron Maiden albums and then... the end.
Nah. I will be purchasing the new album, probably.

Man, Justicar is an awesome name for a Power Metal band
This doesnt mean you cant listen to it before buying it! ...and the name sucks

Lord Abortion 07-05-2006 05:36 AM

Well since this one is the fourteenth, then no, it won't be the last, but according to that, the second-last.
However, Steve has a "well, we'll see" attitude towards that statement. It all may change over the next few years, depending on if he feels they still have something to offer the world.

Josh 07-05-2006 06:40 AM

hopefully they will, if not, they can just keep touring til they die :p
/lols@thought of band onstage with Zimmer Frames

currently, 882 of my 3699 songs on my mp3 player are Power Metal of one sort or another

Apocalyptic Raids 07-05-2006 07:22 AM

They fucking better come here.

Josh 07-05-2006 07:27 AM

Apocalyptic Raids 07-05-2006 07:29 AM

Stormrider 07-05-2006 09:32 AM
The self titled album cover in particular is fantastic.
Yeah it's pretty cool. I listened to the first 2 songs. First impression it was pretty cool, but the vocals sounded meh. I'de have to listen to it again, I wasn't really paying attention.
To be honest, it's a good thing that these sort of topics are sung about, it certainly encourages me oto learn more about the History of the battles being described.
Perfect example for me is IE's Gettysburg.

Lord Abortion 07-06-2006 03:44 AM

It is believed that Maiden will come to Australia...nothing is for certain yet though, so you folks down the keep 'em peeled.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-06-2006 08:38 AM

they better

otherwise blood will be spilled

that goes for you too, Judas Priest

OrChazzmicExperience 07-07-2006 03:34 PM

y0 y0. I just wrote my first power metal song (on GP5).
What do you guys thinkz?
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=1565CC652F5BBA19

I didn't include solo, becauze I don't even know how to play guitar. Critique welcomed, y0.
Also, it's just MIDI by the way.

Lord Abortion 07-08-2006 02:36 AM
they better

You can't threaten Halford. That'd be like the Pope threatening God.

Slapping Penguin 07-08-2006 02:42 AM

to OrChazzmicExperience

I liked it. Its pretty good but now you get to get serious and go record it :D

Hey has anyone here heard Mezarkabul, Not Power Metal just straight up heavy but I like it. Just wondering if anyone else has heard this band.
