Little Man being Erased 07-11-2005 11:37 PM

Yeah, I've been meaning to for a while, seeing as they get so much praise around these parts.

Dog 07-11-2005 11:39 PM

None of their other albums get enough credit. Don't stop with Double Nickels On The Dime.

Parfait 07-11-2005 11:42 PM

Well, after I got DNotD I got What Makes a Man Start Fires?, Ballot Results, and 3-Way Tie For last, and none of those are very good. Now that I'm going through this post-mersh stuff I'm finding that some of their other albums are actually worth hearing.

Well_Respected_Man 07-11-2005 11:44 PM

It's highly unlikley not to like the Minutemen

My Daggage!
!!! - Lounden Up Now
Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
Soft Machine - One and Two (least static records ever)
Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance and Dub Housing
Blood, Sweat, and Tears - The Best of
Gang of Four - A Brief History of the Twentieth Century
Nuggest - Every compilation they ever did
1234 Punk and New Wave box set
Left Of the Dial 80's underground box set
Radiohead - Kid A
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

Yeah that's mostly the last few weeks.

Yeah, I know what you mean. At first I didn't care much for Ballot Results or 3-Way Tie For Last, but after a while of DNOTD being my only Minutemen interest I decided to give them another chance, and I found them to be more enjoyable than before. I've never heard What Makes a Man Start Fires? Anyway, check out Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat. It's my favorite MM album after DNOTD.

Parfait 07-11-2005 11:49 PM

Yeah Buzz Or Howl is great.

Tangy zizzle 07-11-2005 11:52 PM

What Makes a Man Start Fires? = my favourite Minutemen album.

YDload 07-11-2005 11:53 PM

Yeah I checked out some of their other albums, but the only one that really appealed to me was Buzz or Howl.

But which one has "Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs?"

Parfait 07-11-2005 11:54 PM

WMaMSF really isn't so bad, it's just not great. It doesn't have the same sort of momentum that Buzz Or Howl and Double Nickels possess.

The album cover in my avatar is from a recording of the Robert Shaw Festival Singers performing Vespers, Op. 37 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. It's a beautiful thing.

Tangy zizzle 07-11-2005 11:54 PM

See above your post Ian

br3ad_man 07-11-2005 11:58 PM

The Blood Brothers are kicking my arse. 5 days to go.

Parfait 07-12-2005 12:08 AM

I get no credit for pimping beautiful choral music to the alt & indie forum.

Ganondorf 07-12-2005 12:20 AM

I'm liking The Postal Service and Hot Snakes at the moment.

Tomahawk 07-12-2005 11:23 AM

It's pop rock and it's awesome. I think it's my favourite album this year.

ATM 07-12-2005 11:35 AM

I'll have to keep an eye out for that one. I finally checked out the Magic Numbers, after seeing Iai whoring them. Very cool album.

music.chick 07-12-2005 11:43 AM

new band called STAND

Irish rock, i never heard of them until i saw their show at my school. they're pretty awesome. check out www.standland.com

Next show is in dublin, but they'll be in Buffalo (NY) in August. =)

Iai 07-12-2005 12:26 PM

I've been hearing quite a bit of quiet hype developing around Devin Davis. I'm definitely interested.

Edit: Especially since me and Tomahawk agree on practically everything. Except The Magic Numbers. :p

Tomahawk 07-12-2005 12:49 PM

I might give them another chance. I'm pretty generous like that.

Iai 07-12-2005 12:53 PM

Man, I just realised, I must have played Gigantic about 20 times today. I'm THAT happy.

Oh, and I bought I Am A Bird Now yesterday. Muchly looking forward to digging that after dinner.

lately ive been listening to the clash and big audio dynamite....they have some great lyrics, but if your looking for a cool drum beat, check out kryptonite by three doors down...its not that hard, but sounds awesome when you play it :thumb:

Iai 07-12-2005 03:32 PM
Oh, and I bought I Am A Bird Now yesterday. Muchly looking forward to digging that after dinner.
It's, uh.....interesting. Reminds me of Rufus Wainwright at first, except with a far more strange voice. I didn;t really settle into the flow of the album until the 5th or 6th track. I liked it though. I'll give it a couple more listens before judging properly.

Did you buy that album (Devin Davis) from somewhere in Australia or did you order it from the US or something? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Little Man being Erased 07-12-2005 08:02 PM

Since my above post I've listened to:

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
David Bowie - Low
The Clash - London Calling
