The specific case in the movie shows a teacher who lives in fear of his wife... so he makes the students live in fear of him.
As Happiest Days Of Our Lives says just before the start of ABITWII: "But how were we to know that when they got home at night their fat and psycopathic wives would beat them to within an inch of their lives?" MYR: Yeah, I like that idea, but even if you guys just wanna post your analyses in here, and I can edit them into the first post of this thread... :) |
Ok, first off, have you ever seen The Wall movie, and not just the movie, but its obviouse, umm...theyre living there,..(private school), and i agree about what you said about machines, but i hate when kids of today just say of great aong because one line, because theres more to it then that.
So, you're telling me that when you have a political sattire is just directed at one political candidate? No. When you do something of that scale is to point out the failure in all of the educational institute, not just one. And how do you know that they're private school? The one where Pink goes everyone goes without uniform, yet the one where the kids are marching do wear uniforms (signaling that it is a private school). You can also see that when they sing the chorus, you see different kids, different schools, saying that it just doesn't happen in one, but in all. Don't try to be a smart-ass around me. |
Well I watched Wizard of Oz and listened to DSOTM. I started the cd once the MGM Loin roared his third time. There were a few things that seemed like the DSOTM could have been an alternate soundtrack to Oz, most notably when Dorthy is balancing on the fence the lyrics on the Breathe Reprise track says Balanced on the biggest wave then at the exact time of the finally beat she falls off the fence. Overall I would say it's just a coincedence that there are similar endings and startings of scenes and tracks. Maybe if I was high it would've been better.

another brick in the wall p2 was about rogers personal experiences of school. We couldn't hazard a guess as to whether he was also critising the entire idea of schools, just private schools, or what.
|
who else thinks that ABITW p2 isn't really that good a song at all?
|
i think it's a very good song. i love the riffs, both guitar and bass.
|
Maybe overrated, but I still like it.
|
I loved it the first few times I heard it, but after that, It just started to get old. I thyink that it is waaay overplayed. Too many good songs are ruined that way. :upset:
Hey guys, I have a great idea for the Pink Floyd thread. Basically, we pick an album, and then we each dibs a song, and then analyse it line by line, or verse by verse. This would be a nice way to see who thinks what when it comes to Pink Floyd. We can also comment on everyone's analyses.
This is going to be a very casual thing. It's not going to dominate the discussion, etc. Thoughts? I vote DSOTM first.
I will do this! :thumb: I'd love to do Time. If you guys want to give me that responsibility I'll try to do it justice. |
So why don't we get it started? I know everyone probably wants to do a different album, but it makes sense to do DSotM first.
As in if you want to do this, call dibs on Dark Side tracks. |
On the note of Another Brick In The Wall... Today in school, Pink Floyd was brought up somehow.
I was SHOCKED, but I didn't hear a SINGLE person say anything about this song, or sing it. It was actually a discussion about DSotM more than anything. |

dibs... on Time! There I've said it. I'll do my best. |
The Pulse DVD is still being worked on, they keep pushing the release day back(to a question a page back)
I'm glad so many people agree with me about dances, any music that they've never heard before is considered complete ****. I was seriously considering playing both Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb, but as I said earlier the bitches at my scool can't live without their mainstream bull**** hip-hop. They played that ****ing gwen stefani song "holla back girl" or something TWICE. Jesus, I hate people! Actually, the person organizing the dance put a sheet in some class where you put songs you wanted, but all the songs I put got marked over and someone wrote "Rock sux". I'm not kidding. WYWH is aout the most traditional sounding PF song, so it worked pretty good as a finale. Oh yeah, and my friend was begging me to play Another Brick pt. 2, but that would incite riot.
Simmer down, dude. What does it matter what other people listen to? I for one am a HUGE Pink Floyd fan, anyone in this thread will confirm that. However, I like a lot of hip-hop. Just because you don't like the music taste of others doesn't mean that you're right and they're wrong.
On the Run is kind of boring and pointless, although I always listen to it anyways (for the sake of listening to the whole album). The Great Gig In The Sky is the best instrumental in DSotehmoon
Mmm... I don't really consider Great Gig in the Sky an instrumental. It doesn't have set lyrics, but it does have vocals. Whatever, I suppose I'm just splitting hairs here. I haven't listened to Animals in awhile, but I know Dogs is at first Gilmour, and then Waters. Pigs (3 Different Ones) is Waters. Don't remember Sheep.
And here you go: http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=32AV08O79QO670KZVNXRF6FU06 Practically steaming with freshness, grab it while its hot. And whatever it is, it's cool... it had a bit of Shine on You Crazy Diamond as well :thumb:
If it has SOYCD on it, it can't be one of the earliest recordings. SOYCD wasn't written until 1975. |
another brick in the wall p2 was about rogers personal experiences of school. We couldn't hazard a guess as to whether he was also critising the entire idea of schools, just private schools, or what.
Actually, if you listen to the commentary while watching the movie he sorts of explains that the song is directed at teachers who abuse their students (be it physically or mentally). So, yes, we do know what the song is about. Yes, Roger wrote it because of his personal experience, but he also wanted to get a point out. It's like saying that Animals is based on Roger's life and what he experienced in society, rather than criticizing our whole society. |
If it has SOYCD on it, it can't be one of the earliest recordings. SOYCD wasn't written until 1975.
i'm pretty sure he was talking about the guitar chord progression |

dibs... on Time! There I've said it. I'll do my best.
Fuck, I wanted to do Time. Fine, I'll do Money. Riva, what's your AIM? I'll help you organize it. Mine: EmWhyAre |
cool... i just learned ''wish you were here'' for my girlfriend and i just broke a string ...
pretty good song though |
Yeah. That's one of my favorite Floyd songs. Great melody ;)
omglol |
I'm wanting to do Eclipse. Ok then, so just write up your articles, and post 'em here. Try to keep them brief, like 350 words. So, we have:
Speak To Me/Breathe - bennyl On The Run - Time - TheDMV The Great Gig In The Sky - Money - MalcolmYoungRock Us And Them - Med57 Any Colour You Like - Brain Damage - robo2448 Eclipse - HeavyRiva So get started, gentlemen and ladies (on the internet?)... |
Wish You Were Here is a really good song to play with a band.
It's a band tradition now. I get on the 12 string and my friend plays electric, and we play WYWH at least ONCE every session. |
Looks like I missed alot in the last few weeks...
If anybody wants a specific track uploaded I can do that: I have just about every pink floyd song, just not some of the more rare bootlegs. 287 song to be exact! |
i think wwyh is one of their best albums, but i definitely dont find it as their best song(wwyh), it's very emotional and has a good meaning, and it's catchy, i just find myself singing time and comfortably numb and dogs more often.

Money
Once you hear that immistakable chime, you know what song's begun. Money is considered a classic and a casual Floyd fan favorite.
Money, get away, get a good job with more pay and you're okay
If you're not briefed on the concept of DSOTM, the concept is basically life, which each song represents a different part of life. A man's lust for money begins when this song begins with the sound of the ringing cash registers
Money, it's a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
Money is essentially a gas. Everybody needs money to go on with their lives.
New car, caviar, four star daydream, think I'll buy me a football team
Not much to say about this line, except it's the truth. When you have a lot of money, you want to spend it. And fast.
Money! Get back, I'm all right jack keep your hands off of my stack
The line speaks for itself. Keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it's a hit. Don't give me that do goody good bullshit
As you know, there are people out there who say that money isn't the most important thing in life. This line is telling them to fuck off, it's my money.
I'm in a high-fidelity first class traveling set, and I think I need a lear jet.
Again, you've got money, you're gonna wanna spend it on fancy things.
Money, it's a crime. Share it fairly, but don't take a slice of my pie.
Again, the greed of an average man is showing through. He's upholding his morals by telling everyone to share their money fairly, but they better not take any of his money.
Money, so they say, is the root of all evil today.
If you think about it, all the crimes in the world are for only 2 things: Money and Power. Floyd was expressing this.
But if you ask for a raise it's no suprise that they're giving none away
Again, the greed of man takes over and when people ask nicely for money or a raise for a job, usually bosses are reluctant because it's their money. |
great job with that. I won't be able to do mine until tomorrow at the earliest but I'll get it done either tomorrow or over the weekend. Don't let anybody else do Brain Damage.
|
Nice MYR. You guys can expect mine by tomorow :thumb:

Hey guys I havnt posted in here for a while. But I just had a quick question. I was sitting around listening to meddle today and then I started looking at the case. What exactly is on the cover? Is it just the surface of water or something else?
|
Not 100% sure, but there is a shape in it. My guess is it is water, with a reflection of something, and some water drops hitting the surface. What it means, no idea.
