Gender isn't proven, sex is. And even that is a blurry line. What are intersexed people, male or female? Gender is just as pointless as judging people on race. What matters does someones genitals matter. Why is their a distinction between male and females, why not between pregnant or not pregnant. Gender is just as socially constructed, if not more then race is. Take a sociology class or at least pick up a textbook and read about it.
Yes, but there are just way more distinctions in Gender than there is in Race. Actual, physical differences, hormone, and chemical levels. Race is a term that was socially created, whereas Gender(sex) is socially constructed, or percieved to be certain ways.

I do agree that there shouldn't be differences as far as skills and/or weaknesses. But that's one of the many things society conditions us to think.

The line isn't that drawn between physical differences etc when you start dipping into intersex and genital abnomalities. Our social system is flawed and will stay flawed for a long time.

And if no one told you were a boy or a girl and raised in a gender neutral household, you would never know the differences until put into society.

This is tiresome.. back to RYM adding.

I completely agree. Our society is completely messed up and far from correct. However, I was just saying that if you're going to label a person, Gender would be a much more accurate label. As opposed to Race. There's just more tangible proof to differenciate.

But I love you Nicholas.

I thought this was the Community Thread...

If you have a penis you're a dude, if you have a vaj you're a girl, if you have both or neither you're an it

If you want to get all PC about it
The few black kids at my school act whiter than most of the white kids anyways.
I go to a private school, so most of the kids there are chinese or brown. But last year there was this one black kid from Manitoba. He thought that just because he was black, he had to play basketball and listen to rap. Really he wasn't very good at basketball, and he didn't like rap. But it seemed to him like he had to put out this black image, just because of his skin colour.

One day he comes up to me and hes like "Hey, I really like Sum 41, but don't tell anyone!". It was quite lame indeed.

lynch_me 10-30-2005 04:54 PM

i like jello

lynch_me 10-30-2005 04:56 PM
It is truth that a lot of minorities have lost their ethnicity due to American culture.

Not necessarily. Gender is proven, race is not. The color (or amount/lack of) melatonin in your skin has nothing to do with your actions. However; your testosterone, and hormone level does. Both of which are effected by gender.

Race is socially constructed period. Gender is modified.
are you a scientist?

AIRIC 10-30-2005 04:56 PM

I had jello at a Chinese buffet today.

This basically just comes down to the whole "Nature VS Nuture" debate.

I believe this because I basicly had a whole quarter on Psychology about it. Its true.

Sociology touches on it better then psychology has ever done. But I found that section really interesting, with intersex, gender roles, etc. I may take a class on it if I can.

Anxious 10-30-2005 05:04 PM
This basically just comes down to the whole "Nature VS Nuture" debate.
Yep. And the short answer is that both Nature and Nuture shape us. For you nayssayers.

Depending on the situation.
Depending on the situation.
eh? Explain.

AIRIC 10-30-2005 05:07 PM

Science.

Brain Toad 10-30-2005 05:08 PM

There is no such thing as nature vs nuture, because the simple fact is, they both play a part. There is no one factor in anything.

lynch_me 10-30-2005 05:12 PM
eh? Explain.
I don't think different situations always include both of those. Like if a child is raised among dogs their whole lifes, they will act like a dog, thats nurture. I don't really see nature there.

DaveToopes 10-30-2005 05:14 PM
It's okay bud. :)

You are born with certain reflexes to help you survive. like a baby that looks for his mom's nipple to suck on for food. Also attachment to their care-givers is engraved into their head from birth. Thats basicly the main arguement against nurture. But Nature and nurture both play roles in devlopment.

The punk community thread has the most posts of the community threads. Does that mean that our community is the best?
