Edit: By the way, I now have a claim to fame - I was at the last ever Filaments gig.
Last ever?:( daaaaaamn |
Yeah, they just split up. There's a thread about it in Punk that I just bumped.
|
Radio 4 are poo poo.
Nice SA avatar.
'Save Your City' is a pretty cool song. digging The Fiery Furnaces and The Books this morning. |
Queens of the whatever
mclusky Squarepusher Tomahawk I want the new Millionare record so so bad, where is it???? |
I just got this Walt Dickerson album with Sun Ra on piano and harpsichord, and it basically sucks. Disappointing.
|
To add to what else I have been liking I give you;
King's X. I didn't know Vocal Harmonies until this band came into my life.
I remember a "100 Greatest Hard Rock Bands" show on VH1 a while ago had them on the list. There was some guy who getting off to them hardcore. I have now effectively destroyed any reputation I had. |
My brother really likes King's X. I haven't heard a lot of their stuff, but I really dug what he played me.
|

Smeared-Sloan
Not half bad. |
Lagwagon and heaps of other random shizzle.
|
DJ Krush's Strictly Turntablized record, particularly "Kemuri."
Doesn't get enough credit, this guy. |
Xiu Xiu - La Foret
|
Man, I love rock. Just pure straight up fuzzy guitars, deathly drums, phhaaatttt bass and sex.
Anyhoo, The Sultans Mudhoney |
The Sultans Mudhoney
Good work. Gun Club - Miami (Ah I had to bust out with this golden nugget) |
Bela Fleck & the Flecktones
First time I've ever heard them. I'm really enjoying it. |
DJ Krush's Strictly Turntablized record, particularly "Kemuri."
Doesn't get enough credit, this guy.
He's fairly good but would hardly say he was deserving of more credit.
I remember a "100 Greatest Hard Rock Bands" show on VH1 a while ago had them on the list. There was some guy who getting off to them hardcore.
I'm listening to Bill Bruford's One of a Kind (for the first time in quite a while). I've always been fond of this album, despite its intense cheesiness.
I like that album. I listened to Murder by Death - Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them? straight through for the first time yesterday, whilst checking papers. It's a very good album, but I think I still (so far) prefer Like the Exorcist, But More Breakdancing. |

I am now that I know there is going to be a new one this year.

oh bartender you brighten my day. :D |
The new Xiu Xiu record, as I see it, bears a much stronger similarity to A Promise rather than the previous record, Fabulous Muscles. It's much quieter with less poppy moments that you found on the last one. While not quite as alienating as A Promise may feel, I don't see it as accessible as Fabulous Muscles was. I've really enjoyed it and as time progresses it's definitely grown on me. I'm excited to see these songs performed next weekend at Intonation :D

Make sure while you are there you take Nacho's virginity. |
I've recently got onto Squarepusher and I can't stop. I've got like six of his albums now.
Good stuff |
appleseed cast :thumb:

Squirrel Bait

The Smiths - Meat is Murder
Kashmir - Zitilites The Beatles - Abbey Road |
bad brains - banned in dc
|
Anybody who's going to Intonation, I hope you get mildly ill.
|
I am slightly, but then I think of seeing Hot Snakes and seeing Bullet Train to Vegas (yeah, that's right Jehu fans) live and it doesn;t seem so bad.
But still, Intonation looks damm good this year. So yeah, I hope you break a finger or get a severe headache. |
How good were Hot Snakes? Too good.
|
Tightest band I've ever seen, seriously. The thing is, it wasn't the best show I've seen (kudos Mr. Harper) but it's just that all of their songs are so good and half of 'em are damm near perfect. The first few notes of Suicide Invoice are just deathly. I'm gutted I didn't get Our work fills the pews. The Sydney show got a 10 minute rendition of LUAU (DLJ) to finish the night off. Bastards.
Oh yeah, I still don't know why it hurts...?? |
You got me stumped.
It sure was a great show. Damn loud too. I was hoping to see them do "Salton City," but it was a close to perfect set anyway. They finished with a lengthier version of "Let It Come" in Brissy. |
Fuck, I'm still pumped over this. The next rock band I see has got some work to do to try and top or even match that show.
Music sucks man. |
Indeed.
|
The Music - s/t
Pretty good album, but some songs just bore me on it. |
Laughing Hyenas - Hard Times
A Gun Called Tension - A Gun Called Tension Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Tender Prey |
Early Minutemen stuff. A few days ago a guy I know sent me the three Post-Merch compilation sets. I just listened to The Punchline and Buzz and Howl Under the Influence of Heat 12''s and they're both awesomely awesome.
|
Double awesome, eh? I should check Minutemen out.
My two favourite bands at the moment are Hot Snakes and The Smiths. |
You haven't listened to Minutemen? Double Nickels on the Dime is something you will hear very soon, in that case.
|
Yeah, Minutemen is an awesome band. "Spillage" came up on my playlist and I just had to play along with it on my bass. Mike Watt is one of the coolest bassists ever; all of his basslines sound perfect.
