Meh, Obama wants to filter the internet, bring back the "Fairness Doctrine" that came to be during the FDR era and dismissed during the Reagan era so he can shut down all the talk radio hosts that are on Fox News and more.

Serious plans to implement an ISP based filter to block specific websites that are deemed unsuitable.

The idea is to block content that's [B]refused classification[/B].

Their main argument is that it'll prevent kiddie pron on the www, and that's fair enough. No-one likes kiddie pron. It's undefendable.

Except the problem is how the majority of kiddie pron is shared via torrents, p2p emails, etc.
This filter will not affect those mediums. Plus it willl also have no effects on VPNs.


Anther problem is what other types of content is considerd [B]refused classification[/B].
That includes talk of commiting crime, fetish sex, violence, etc.

This filter could potentially block content like liveleak, 4chan, encycolpedia dramatica, goatse, 2girls1cup;
Sites that discuss or feature graffiti art, female ejaculation (them girls are just peeing, and pee = fetish :rolleyes:), small breast pron (they 'appear' to be underage...), euthenasia, etc.

Basically, if it isn't deemed suitable by our classification board (the same board who has yet to issue an R 18+ rating for video games) then it will be blocked.

The list of blocked content will be manually maintained. The list of what is blocked [B]will not[/B] be made public.

The infrastructure will cost millions.


The concept is being supported by family & church groups. They see it as a bomb-proof solution after our Governments software based content filter was bypassed within 30 minutes by a 15 year old.
Basically all parents who I guess are too lazy to monitor their own childrens activity on the Internet.

I'm still quietely confident that the whole project will fall on it's arse.

They actually don't lie, but you probably don't watch them. So how could you actually see they are or are not lying? That and the Fairness Doctrine only covers radio, not TV. A lot of the people on Fox News shows and Fox Business Shows (Hannity, Beck, Imus to name a few) have radio shows during the day on AM radio.

Actually I have watched Fox News and they do lie, a lot. See the case of them showing video footage from a different event in order to make it look like one of their stupid teabagger rallies had a big turnout when it didn't. They even openly admitted that they're not a real news channel in order to win a lawsuit. Fox News is nothing but a propaganda machine for right wing idiots. People like Beck and O'Reilly are a threat to humanity. Fair and balanced my ***.
