Slayer - Indian Christian Group Recall and Ban 'Christ Illusion'
posted on Oct 09 2006 07:45 pm

Mumbai-based EMI Virgin India Ltd said Friday (Oct. 6) it will recall all copies of the new SLAYER album "Christ Illusion" following protests by a Christian group, Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum (CSF).

Early this week, Joseph Dias, general secretary of CSF, issued a statement taking "strong exception" to the album's cover artwork, which he said depicts "Christ with a missing eye and amputated arms." He added, "we also condemn the track, 'Skeleton Christ' as the lyrics are an insult to Christianity." The CSF also sent a memorandum to Mumbai's police commissioner, adding that the album "will affect the sensibilities of the Muslims on the track 'Jihad' and secular Indians who have respect for all faiths."

Kaveri Khullar, marketing manager, EMI India said in an interview, "We met with the CSF and were apologetic while assuring them that all copies of the album would be pulled out. We have no plans of re-issuing it in any way."

The "Christ Illusion" album had been on the shelves for only a week. Khullar did not confirm the number of units released only stating, "There weren't too many that we launched anyway."

The CSF had earlier protested against the Indian release of "The Da Vinci Code" which led the Censor Board to instruct the India distributor, Mumbai-based Sony Pictures Releasing India, to include a notice to accompany the film to explain that it was a work of fiction.

F'n n00bs, when will modernity become post-modern to the East?

Indeed. For now it remains a dream.

Damnit, that's a nice colour.

I'm a Christian, but I don't get why they are getting all pissy about an album cover and a Slayer song. If Slayer fans don't know that Slayer is against Christianity by now, something is wrong with them.

And on the Da Vinci code.... who really cares? It's a book! Does it matter if Jesus was married? No.
Besides, if a fiction book can shake the roots of a 2000 year old religion, then something is definately wrong with that too.

I want one of those bongo 6ers.

The book is a work of fiction, it is people that don't get that that the church is all worked up about. By knowing just the basics about the bible you can point a lot of faults in it.

The Bible is a book too. ;)

Not looking for a fight, anyway I'm outta here.
Gotta read for class tomorrow.

Historically accurate book, but yes it isn't a movie.

A fiction book IS the roots of a 2000 year old religion.

I'm actually in the middle of reading the Da Vinci Code now for school. It's pretty decent.

And yeah, I didn't read that thing about indians or whatever he posted, but Slayer should get the fuck sued outta them, cuz they blow.

PietroCrespi 10-09-2006 08:15 PM

I didn't go see the movie of the Da Vinci code. Is it good?

I just don't see the point in going to see a mystery movie when you've read the book.

Most people are too dumb to read. But that backfired, because most people were too dumb to understand the movie anyways.

Dan brown isn't that great of an author. Basic writing at best, entertaining, but nothing special.

I like his writing style. Just because you're able to name better writers doesn't mean he's basic....not that that was the topic at hand.

i dont think you could do better. i mean at least his writing is coherent. i mean last night you tried to say you couldnt answer anything without atleast 500 words.

With the topic I said that I could have gone a lot over 500 words, after editing it was about 503 words. I get very good marks on my written assignments and I have gotten many compliments on my writing from many teachers. Thanks anyway.

Teachers also consider The Scarlet Letter, Le Miserables, and A Tale of Two Cities classics. And they all are over-word crappy paperweights.

Honestly Dan Brown isn't a great author, but I did like the Da Vinci Code. The book, that is. The movie was so slow and boring. Definately not a book that needed an on-screen companion.

Les Mis is a great book, I haven't read the other two that you mention. They are true classics because they have stood the test of time, just because you don't like them it doesn't mean that they aren't genuine classics.

Yeah, my mom told me his other book, Angels and Demons, is much better, but I'm just reading this one because it's for school.
