another JMT single is out, Godflesh. it's way better than Monolith. dammit leak album leak leak leak

kingsoby1 10-29-2008 12:42 PM

madlib is really talented and awesome, but i just enjoy el-p's compositions/ rapping/ concepts more.
he just is seriously such a dynamic and interesting producer that to say anyone is more talent than him is just foolish.
quite the loaded statement, eh? it would be foolish to say he's not one of the best, at a minimum... but everyone has their own opinion of what beats are most interesting to them.

Hopefully it's decent... I'm really not excited at all. I prefer Outerspace to JMT. Vinnie Paz is on Gutta - "Heads Will Roll" btw, it's pretty good stuff, prod by BSBD.

beat konducta vol 5 is ridiculously good, probably my favorite of the year.

also, I'm digging Pharoahe Monch. He's really grown on me

pixiesfanyo 10-29-2008 01:27 PM

Pharoahe Monch; best rapper ALIVVVVE

kingsoby1 10-30-2008 10:52 AM

Internal Affairs was sick, but I thought Desire (although awesome as well) was a slight step down. I hope he puts out another album next year, instead of making everyone wait what... 8 years again?

pixiesfanyo 10-30-2008 12:25 PM

Hopefully.

wickedwontdie 10-31-2008 02:40 AM

Dr. Dooom 2 has been out since September, anyone else listening to it?

How about Esham's new LP?

kingsoby1 10-31-2008 07:56 AM

don't really listen to acid rap :(

ATM 10-31-2008 08:05 AM

Monch's birthday is today. What should I tell him?

I think the reason for the first delay was because of the legal issue with IA, he must of been down about that.

But if he wasn't so damn underrated I could see him putting out album in a shorter amount of time.

When I saw Premo no other track, except maybe Boom, had the club "pumping" then Simon Says.

Don't take more then 5 years to release your next album.

HighandDriving 10-31-2008 12:59 PM

^Hahahah, good one.

thunderzstruck 10-31-2008 01:38 PM

been really digging eyedea & abilities, so much talent

kingsoby1 10-31-2008 02:08 PM

abilities is ridiculous - can't wait until the turf club show.

radtaste 10-31-2008 11:41 PM

Listening to Dizzee Rascal's 'Boy in da Corner'. Nothing mesmerising here, except for the lulzy Brit accents.

radtaste 11-01-2008 08:47 PM

That's cause you're a dirty Sassenach, a limey, a pommy, a rosbif, an angrez, a firang, and a John Bull.

AA-12 11-02-2008 07:31 AM

this new Black Milk is some serious hip-hip.

ATM 11-02-2008 10:03 PM

Might be interviewing the MC from this group:

Good ****.

thunderzstruck 11-02-2008 11:16 PM

just came back from an atmosphere/blueprint show. Pretty ****in sick but what was awesome was at the end Slug invited Blueprint up to do some freestyling and Brother Ali surprisingly joined them. Ended with "Always Coming Back Home"

There's nothing like seeing Atmosphere at First Ave...

Atmosphere's pretty meh, but they do put on a good live show. Skill-wise, Brother Ali is probably the best of the popular underground guys in MN, although he's a bit of a poseur. Blueprint's alright.

I Self Devine, Muja Messiah, even dudes from the Doomtree crew are more my cup of tea. My brother (not genetically-speaking) is in The Usual Suspects (MC Free One), and they're pretty tight... opened up at soundset.

Check out Mike Mictlan and Lazerbeak's new joint, "Hand over Fist"... pretty good; I'll probably be reviewing it here soon.

thunderzstruck 11-03-2008 11:03 AM

I agree that Atmos isn't the best on record, he's solid but nothing spectacular. He puts on a hell of a show though, same goes with Blueprint. I do like his Soul Position material though

There was some drunk guy pushing his way up to the front and Slug told him to stop it and eventually got him kicked out. The whole crowd was cheering cause he was being an spatula and Slug even gave him $20 to cover the ticket heh

And yeah, doomtree's sick. Soundset was pretty cool too. Eyedea & Abilities were probably my favorite there but the whole second half was solid. Especially when Atmosphere ended with Crewed Up

AA-12 11-03-2008 11:04 AM
yes
2008 is turning out to be a not so bad year. i worried for a while.

kingsoby1 11-03-2008 12:25 PM

2008's been pretty sweet... lots of above-average stuff. Haven't heard any potentially classic albums yet, but I still have a lot to listen to.

I was happy with soundset; they managed to pick up a lot of guys that don't shine too bright on record, but put on great performances. Plus, I'm a Def Jux junkie, and it was great to see Aesop. I'm definitely going to the Turf Club show next week, along with the 2nd Atmosphere show the Monday after.

Speaking of Def Jux, I've been really disappointed lately... The Mighty Underdogs suck really bad.

Correction 11-03-2008 08:26 PM

2008's been alright, stuff like atmosphere disappointed

Escher 11-03-2008 10:28 PM

how do you guys feel about the song

trial time - mr biggs

perhaps the best song of the century

Meatplow 11-04-2008 09:10 AM

Mos Def Black of Both Sides, amazing album

kingsoby1 11-04-2008 01:21 PM

yep, that's a classic for sure
