What do you mean by "very ambient"?
Well, ambient elements.
Like instead of just a power chord droning on for 15 minutes, you add other layers to it, different sounds, etc. I'm probably doing a shitty job of explaining what I mean. Hmm, take for example Sunn O)))'s song Bass Aliens. There's a distant sound of plucked strings, accompanied by some static/noises that come in every so often, and there's a bass rumble that comes in at different frequencies. It has a very atmospheric sound. |
If you want layered and ambient stuff, you should really try Nadja.
Never heard Nadja.
You'd probably dig them.
Did that explanation make sense?
If it didn't, you can damn well be sure I'd be on your ass about it. ;)
It's clear, that's why I recommended Nadja. :p

Anyone find any good EPICALLY epic doom lately? Candlemass/Solstice type vibes? Downloaded a couple doomers last night but they were stoner-ish kind of stuff, not really what I'm looking for.
Argus, thought a bit different than Candlemass and Solstice. Other than them, I got nothing.
Jesu tbh.
Actually in all seriousness I stumbled upon this band called Low Vibes, you might like them if you haven't already heard of them. |

Hour of 13? Dwell Within? I've posted links to both in this thread. Pagan Altar and Lamp of Thoth tonight in Leeds. Should be fantastic. |
I picked up Pagan Altars last album this week and it is great. Really good mix of epic doom and some NWOBHM riffing.
I got Skepticism - Stormcrowfleet just before. Haven't listened yet.
Hey could you send that to me? I really need to check them out.
Check your rep.

It's great. So dark, brooding and majestic. The production is quite lowfi, but the music is gorgeous. |
Tool.

Sahg Candlemass Saint Vitus Solitude Aeturnus Cathedral Solstice Witchfinder General Witchcraft (really light though, sabbath-esque "doom rock") For heavier stuff: Ahab Esoteric Swallow The Sun Mourning Beloveth Shape Of Despair |
I didn't recommend the obvious ones, hehe.
Anyway, I just got my Orange Goblin shirt and it's pretty cool. |
Frequencies From Planet 10 is a cool album.
And he did say he's new to the genre :p |
