Is it becoming cool to hate The Clash like it's cool to hate Sex Pistols?
|
Not at all, I was a bit of a fan about a year ago from Combat Rock, and after I got into their other stuff, I hated it.
|
You don't like The Clash?
Just wondering, I'm not saying it's stupid or anything.
Not that much no. I enjoy their first album and their punk songs, but I don't like their ska, reggae, or funk/disco/pop stuff at all. |
Clash never made a country song. Wonder what it would have sounded like?
|
Yes they did. Lonesome Me, from the Vanilla tapes.
|
It seems most people prefer London Calling to all their other albums. But i think their self titled album was the best.
|
I listened to London Calling so many times that I can barely listen to it anymore.
|
Same here.
Im going to listen to Lonesome Me. London Calling was on Gene Simmons Rock School. |
I gotta give it up for Sandinista. It's just so creative and expansive. Very atmospheric in places, too. I think this album along with London Calling really gave punk some staying power and far reaching influence. Could you imagine being a punk musician back then and hearing these albums new? All of a sudden the doors were kicked all the way down! Anything was possible. Sure you had ska bands, reggae, funk, rockabilly, dance, punk, etc. But here was one band who had the balls to do it all and take it to the limit and beyond. They could of come with a single album after London Calling and cashed in. But instead they came with this three disc beast. No one released three album sets of new original music back then. They still don't. And here comes this little punk band from England with the guts enough to do it. And the messege was punk is whatever you want it to be.
To me the Clash were unique and brillant because of Londen Calling and Sandinista. And to a lesser extent Combat Rock. If they had just kept it "punk" as it was defined back then, they would of gone down as just another pretty good band that had some success and came and went. Instead they influenced and inspired a whole new generation of musicians. Punk and otherwise. London Calling and Sandinista were bold statements that moved everything forward, IMO. Because all that diverse music didn't come from a dozen bands. It came from one. And it came from an unlikely one and was done so well, it was undeniable. Yet the band always maintained there identity, integrity, and perhaps most of all, dignity. That is not something most bands could do. Even today. Overpowered By Funk? Hell yeah! |
I'm loving the deep shi't man, and Overpowered By Funk is a sweet song.

A lot of people tell me I look like Strummer, which I quite enjoy, seeing as he was one of the most gorgeous men ever to have graced god's green earth, and is one of my musical heroes.

I think they were a terrorist group in Italy. |
Yall are aware i made a shirt that says Hate and War on it. Well time i made a new one, i have a plain green shirt and a plain dark grey shirt, what should i spray on it. Clash related of course.
I will show my Hate and War shirt soon. |
Train in Vain would look good on a shirt. Sounds good, too.
I wanted to say I picked up Chaos In New York at my music service (allofmp3.com) the other day and it is remarkable. It's a live recording of the legendary shows the Clash did in New York City during the tour supporting Sandinista. Anyone else ever hear this? Probably so. It's not really available here in the states, so it came as a surprise to me. I combined much of it with tracks from From Here To Eternity Live and it is great. If you don't have it, I highly recommend it. And it has lots of great cuts from Sandinista, too. |
Yea i have allot of songs from the bonds shows, thanks to sean.

I want the official band threads to look more interesting then they do now, so I need your assistance for clever titles. These titles should relate to the band in some way, whether they be songs, albums, lyrics, or quotes. So if you have any ideas, please post them here, and the best idea will be used.
