Same.

Ugh. I can't believe how high the rating is for CI on sputnik

I listened to Hell Awaits yesterday
That's cause it's a good album. I've grown rather tired of most of the Slayer fans on here claiming this to be a horrible album and insist on the utter crappiness of it. I'm a member on the Slayer forums, and I'd say more than 90% of them f*cking love it. Then the other 10% are split between saying it's ok and saying it sucks. I've also noticed how high everyone here holds 'Hell Awaits' up on a shiny platter. It's a good/great album, but it's not their best. I mean, 7 songs? And if I remember correctly, the last two songs aren't that great in my book.

"Christ Illusion" is certainly a great album. I've just got a feeling that most of you so desperatley want another 'Reign in Blood' or 'South of Heaven' that you stick your nose up at this because it's not.

Hell Awaits is held on a shinny platter because of it's greatness. It's evil, it's fast, is brutal. It's classic, it is awesome.

Last 3 Slayer album are just Kerry King trying to be Slipknot bullcrap. Slayer are my favorite band, on the planet.. have been for the past 2 years, ever since I discovered them. But I won't lie to myself and say that they're still writing great riffs, they've pretty much lost it.

Slayer = my life. 'Hell Awaits' isn't really that fast, or brutal. It does have the evil thing for the most part, but I find the lyrics cheesy and almost B-Horror movie style IMO. Am I saying I don't love the album? No way, it's great, just not as great as I think you all are making it out to be.

And the Slipknot bullcrap thingy: No way. I think part of the reason why your thinking that is the production style they've begun to pick up on, which I like. They make it sound thicker, and heavier. Actually, classic Slayer riffs (palm mute + quick note + palm mute + quick note + palm mute + quick fill) dominate 'Christ Illusion'. I can see where Nu-Metal came into play on 'Diabolus' (which is growing on me slightly. Still don't like it too much) and 'GHUA'.

They haven't lost anything my friend...

Bazarov 08-10-2006 10:29 PM

Hell Awaits not that fast? Have you heard some of those riffs? Necrophiliac.. a prime example. Cheesy lyrics? No way... these lyrics are Shakespearian compared to newer

"I fucking hate you fucking fucker I hope you fucking die fucking bitch this is payfuckingback mother fucking fuck fuck!!!!!"

I think this drop B guitar tone sucks, and is horrible. They need to go back to Eb, really badly.

DeafForever 08-10-2006 10:32 PM
"I ****ing hate you ****ing ****er I hope you ****ing die ****ing bitch this is pay****ingback mother ****ing **** ****
I assume you're talking about Payback eh? Never was a big fan of that song...

Kill the preacher's only son
Watch the infant die
Bodily dismemberment
Drink the purest blood
Unrelenting need to kill
Death upon you now
Anxiously awaiting
Next in line.

Corny.

God won't touch what I've done
He cries upon my feet
A privilege pain
Beneath buried are your dead
On splintered bones I walk
Sifting through the blood
Besieged in fear
Await the coming of the God

Awesome.
Hell Awaits not that fast? Have you heard some of those riffs?
You crazy man. Of course I have! I just said that Slayer = My life, so come on!

Bazarov 08-10-2006 10:35 PM

That's pretty much all their new songs.. crap riffs filled with the F word.. why? Because Kerry thinks that makes a band a lot better obviously.

I guess we'll have to disagree, becuase I cannot stand what Slayer have become.

DeafForever 08-10-2006 10:38 PM
I guess we'll have to disagree, becuase I cannot stand what Slayer have become.
Agree to disagree eh? I can live with that.

I'm not gonna say I absolutely love the new Slayer over the old Slayer. I mean, I do really, really like 'Christ Illusion'...Hell, I think it's awesome...but if they came out on their next album sounding like 'South of Heaven' I'd literally be found in the hospital from a seizure from the sheer awesomeness of it.

FatalEnergy 08-10-2006 11:04 PM

Are you kidding me? That new crap is completely horrible. It borders mallcore about 50% of the time

Suicide_Punishment 08-10-2006 11:21 PM

The Music on CI reminds me of SITA which is a Good thing. But the Lyrics and Vocals still dont please me. I dont like how Tom has to yell the lyrics in almost every song or has to say them so damn fast. I also miss the classic Screams. However the songs i do enjoy are:

The eyes of the Insane
Jihad
Cult
Supremist

Quality over quantity.
They haven't lost anything my friend...
Tom's vocals are crap, and have been on a consistent slide since 1990. Jeff and Kerry's solos are worse than ever. Cult anyone? I though I recognised that solo, then I realised it's exactly the same as the one on Disciple! And the lyrics are just fucking abominable.
Religion is hate

Religion is rape

The production on Christ Illusion sucks. The guitar sound is thin, the tone is horrible and overall the album sounds as sterile as a Necrophagist record.

pate 08-11-2006 11:20 AM

Nowadays all the Hot Topic kiddies think Slayer is one of their beloved bands whose debut album came out post-2000. I kid you not, this group of them I ran into once were discussing In Flames. They said "Soundtrack to Your Escape has to be considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time, right up there with Pantera's Reinventing the Steel and Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical"

:smash:

Nostalgia 08-11-2006 11:26 AM

I remember hearing a quote for Kerry talking about how politics have no place in music, but yet, Cult's lyrics are totally anti-Christian, and they're not even really clever. Though religion isn't really a political stance, you can oppose Christianity easier than pointing out its flaws. That's why I think old Slayer is so much better. They sang demonic-related music, without basically trying to humilate Christianity.

Indeed.

I missed slayer on the unholy alliance tour... who saw them?

UpperDecker 08-11-2006 03:18 PM

I think the new album is great. One of the things that stuck out the most was the guitar tone, i just love it. It sounds so much more brutal. Fleshstorm, Jihad, and Eyes of The Insane are my favorite's.

Me.
Jeff wrote all of Diabolous.
I'm mainly talking about lyrics. And anyways, Kerry wrote and composed that In the Name of God song.. Tom didn't want to sing it because it offended him, since he's a christian.

Aw3someman 08-11-2006 06:36 PM

I heard CI is going to be on billboard top 10 this week.

pep 08-11-2006 10:16 PM

I actually liked CI even though my mind was filled with the negative comments you guys have about it. I think its a solid album with good songs, although i didnt listen to much to the lyrics, that seem the weakest part of it.

I like most of the lyrics but some of them are corny. Atleast the way he did shouted went well with the rest of the music. I think I'm liking the cd the more i listen to it.
