Heh, I had 56k for a couple years, until I couldn't take it anymore, and I demanded my mother to get cable. I remember downloading off Napster, and being surprised if I got 6kb/s

same here. it was deathly. i was always like, "yes! only half an hour for one song!"

I was friends with people that had Cable and I'd go over there and almost shat myself if they got 100kb/s, but they would always say that's actually pretty slow :p

np: Riding With The King

PinkFreud 10-04-2005 08:34 PM
I thought you liked the Stooges quite a bit?
They're not textbook punk, they were garage rock/proto-punk; I meant all the British and LA/NY punk that popped up in the late 70's and later.

Jacaranda 10-04-2005 09:23 PM
I mailed out Butch Walker - Letters to (I hope) everybody. If anyone would like it and hasn't got the mail, I'm happy to oblige. There's a short description in the mail about the album, which is sure to turn you all off downloading it. :)
Oh haha, that was you I was wondering who the person was who plugs him alot.
He reminds me of a more countryish Rufus Wainwright.

PinkFreud 10-04-2005 09:43 PM

awesome. im downloading now. and convict pool is uploading.

Leper 10-04-2005 10:20 PM

I got Prairie Wind yesterday, but haven't listened to it yet. Anyone want to share a review?

Illmatic 10-04-2005 10:30 PM

So I was hanging out with my friends tonight, and the "What would have happened if Hendrix hadn't died?" topic came up.

So here's what I think:

Like most of the 1960s' rock icons, Hendrix would have faded from the public eye by around 1977; however, post-Woodstock he would probably become a highly respected sideman/session guitarist who on the side would be releasing critically acclaimed "avant-garde"/experimental guitar albums that wouldn't seem to go anywhere on the charts.

BludgeonySteve 10-04-2005 10:37 PM

That's what happens to everyone :p. Jimi would probably make some weird albums and people would lose interest until he went back to his blues roots and rocked again.

Sounds reasonable. But Hendrix was so unpredictable in his day. Therefore I can't see any way around him not dying early..it just had to happen.

I honestly wish I could share it with you guys, but lately everytime I try to upload a cd onto my computer, the program freezes. :upset:

Seafroggys 10-04-2005 11:31 PM

One of the ones I love thinking about is "what if John Lennon wasn't killed..." I mean unlike Hendrix, that wasn't John's fault.

In that case, I'd think about 1988 the Beatles would have to get back together. I mean, after almost 20 years I'm pretty sure any boiling blood will be gone. Most likely they'd do a world tour, definitally release an album, and then not do anything until George dies. We wouldn't have the anthologies, but who knows, maybe that new album would have a much better version of Free As A Bird on it.

jpj 10-05-2005 05:02 AM

Thickasabrick: Yea, I think it's better.

Pet Sounds is, meh.

Convict Pool is great.

Prairie Wind is very good.

Broken Arrow 10-05-2005 06:11 AM

Convict Pool is over-rated.

Yeah, about that Derek and the Dominoes, I misunderstood. I thought he said Clapton didnt have any passion with them./

Walrus Gumboot 10-05-2005 06:58 AM
I wouldn't have made that comparison, but I love them both.

So I'm sitting in the computer lab listening to I Heard It Through The Grapevine and it's torture not to sing along. :(
My music teacher played it yesterday. Twice. And made us do fill-in-the-blanks lyrics.

I think for my project I'm going to do Frank Zappa's Montana (could you imagine the fill-in-the-blank lyrics for that?
I might be moving to Montana soon,
gonna be a dental floss _______

I think I'll do China Cat Sunflower and print out they music off of rukind.com so we have to play it in class

Broken Arrow 10-05-2005 07:52 AM

I'm listening to live at Carnegie Hall in 1963 by Bob Dylan, thanks Aaron.

CCR or Marvin Gaye?

Illmatic 10-05-2005 12:31 PM
Marvin Gaye. I don't like the CCR version
Marvin Gaye = the shiz

I definitely like CCR's version, but Marvin's is better.

Broken Arrow 10-05-2005 12:37 PM
Marvin Gaye. I don't like the CCR version
Why not?

I like both.

temporary 10-05-2005 01:13 PM
I don't like the way it's sung. I like CCR and Fogerty, but I don't think it works for the song.
I have to agree. CCR are a great band, though.

JonG 10-05-2005 01:21 PM

I never got Convict Pool and I requested it :(

jong21790@gmail.com

PinkFreud 10-05-2005 01:26 PM

haha, sorry man. sending it now.

jpj 10-05-2005 01:46 PM
Convict Pool is over-rated.
I don't know how you can say it's over rated when it seems like most people here don't even like it.

PinkFreud 10-05-2005 02:07 PM

exactly. and its not exactly a very well known album or band either.

Illmatic 10-05-2005 02:11 PM

Here's one thing that's never hit me before: What the hell does "Tangled up in blue" mean? Not the song but just the phrase/line itself. I have no idea what it could possibly be.

np: Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue

I think it's caught up in love, or something with love.

*EDIT*

To Freud: Si Tu Disais and Praskovia are the same songs in the download.

Illmatic 10-05-2005 02:18 PM

"This expression refers to a box of which the bottom somehow breaks or disintegrates and allows its contents to fall out."

Is this talking about the line "tangled up in blue"? If so, it would make a lot of sense.
