Its REALLY good. First off, gone are the gay whiny vocals of Trivium past (aka Pillars of the Serpent) and now are replaced by a very awesome hardcore style vocals, with and awesome deeper soft voice (more powerful type, less whiny/emo).

The songs are pure metal though, filled with sweeping solos and insane leads.
I cant wait. Rain and Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr are the best metal songs i have heard in so long.

\m/Pete\m/ 03-18-2005 12:52 PM

I do that kinda eleventeen is talking about, but i do it to see if any of them will not care for it and actually have an intelligent conversation about it.

So far only 2 people have
*sigh* No, Eleventeen. You're becoming the Atreyubreakingbenjamin of the latter half of the decade.
How am I becoming atreyubreakingbenjamin, if I'm not even spouting arguementive statements? I'm just stating a scenario I found humerous.

Arucard 03-18-2005 12:53 PM
???

No I don't. I'm actually slowly becoming a death head. And I didn't start an arguement, I just found it humerous that 5 kids were all wearing corpse paint and emperor shirts, and then telling me to listen to tr00 black metal (which they said on the mic) and said things such as Opeth are fake black metal. And then you consider the fact that I didn't even talk to them the whole night (including after or during their berrating), I don't really think I was owned, at all.
I didnt mean you got owned by them, i mean when you get owned by the death heads. And besides, im a death head now, i just choose not to talk to them.

Bartender 03-18-2005 12:54 PM
Opeth....doom metal with harsh vocals..
Most people settle on progressive death metal, I think.

I've actually become friends with the death heads in my area due to that very same LAN center, heh.

Acendency

Anything else is garbage (last album was terrible, this is their sophomore effort)
I cant wait. Rain and Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr are the best metal songs i have heard in so long.
And I agree. These songs are just as good. They are going to get huge since they are on this years Ozzfest.

You're becoming him because you inexplicably switch between making rational, thoughtful statements and sounding like a just-turned-teenager.
Most people settle on progressive death metal, I think.

Hello, "Cain" :)
Well after hearing more and more death metal, such as Necrophagist, Lykathea Aflame, Cryptopsy, etc. I've been starting to realize that the vocals are pretty much the only death metal thing they do (and the drumming in some cases).

It's just a conclusion I've slowly come to, sorry if I sound dumb.

anybody else notice that you seem to go back to your "roots" the older you get? I still listen to all the same metal, death metal, etc that i have, but the last couple years ive been on a blues kick and i think its because thats the kind of stuff i was raised on.

I dunno, just my though for the day

Not really

Most of the music is in lydian mode (i.e., if you've taken music history, it is the mode of the devils). It is supposed to sound evil, and most lesser evil music is in dorian or locrian mode, the more common modes.

/knows :)

Well I've only heard three songs by Opeth, so I can't really have an opinion. I was just talking by proxy.

Feeling pretty good actually. Finished University for my wonderfully long "spring break" (as I think you Americans would call it) today, and I'm just generally in a good mood, I suppose.

Lydian is more common than locrian. I think you're mixing the two up: Lydian has a b5 tritone in it but it's a major scale. Locrian is the mode based off the diminished chord, with the tritone and a minor third, so I would say that THAT would be the music of the devils.

:)

I went back to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for a long time. "Running Down a Dream" was my favorite song when I was a kid, and it still kicks ***.

Not a prob. How you doing with that music theory stuff? This kid named Ytse made a theory questions thread in the Jam Session forum and I've been a frequent poster there ('cause I'm a theory nerd). You should check it out if you have questions.

Yeah I know, but by proxy I gathered that Children Of Bodom were death metal, you see what I meen? I've heard people calling Underoath black metal, a lot of kids just mislable genres, to a horrible extent. Moreso than me when I first joined even.

That's the thing, everyone has a different definition of "decent." What I consider informative and clear-cut will be different to someone like Dargon, who will inevitably obliterate everything I say because he's tr00 and I am not.

i am the robots 03-18-2005 01:08 PM

Eh, who cares AH, he's all about being tougher than everyone else through music taste, let him act like he's 5, I know I take shots at him all the time, but do you really wanna act like me?

Eh, who cares what anybody thinks about stuff like that? Whatever's good for you. :thumb: I think Dream Theater's pretty heavy, and I don't give a **** how wimpy they are compared to some metal band. They're still heavy. I mean, a lot of those bands get a killer groove going sometimes, but it gets really ragged sometimes. And the bass drums sound like mallets clicking together a lot.

I like Dream Theater a lot, but I also like Cryptopsy, of course Cryptopsy are heavier, I still think DT ware heavy, I meen, even Korn are heavy, just not when you compare them to extreme bands.

I'm starting to think there are different kinds of heavy.
