Freak injury. I don't like talking about it that much, but I'm unsure if I've discussed it on MX before or not.

brb tho i gotsta git mah close frum teh drier
oic. well i won't push if it's touchy for you :)

I had to get back PT for a car accident I got it. 93 year old man rear ended us. :-\

Jom 09-22-2006 05:07 PM

It was a near traumatizing experience when I was told that I may not be able to do sports again. The thought of me not being able to play a pick-up game of basketball, or play baseball in the summers, or even touch football ever again was scary as hell for someone like me.

I had been in the best physical health of my life at the time of the injury. My legs were solid, my chest was a rock, my arms were fine. But then to basically be told that I may not be able to do the things I used to do with relative ease anymore was a huge blow.

But, instead of facing it as 'Dammit, this is the end of my athletic career,' I did the PT and the stretching and the other BS and I'm slowly but surely working my way back. I will [probably] never be able to max 340 pounds again unless I get surgery (which would put me on the shelf/out of work AND school/etc.). I have to accept that, but I can do enough so that I won't be Floppy Tits McGee or something.

There are some exercises (squats, back extensions, etc.) that I simply cannot do anymore because of the stress it puts at my injury point. No PT or stretching will get rid of that for me; I'll live with it for the rest of my life, probably.

But, it's better than being damned to a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

And I can still run and play sports and things... I just need to do the work, or else I'll be in a shit-ton of pain.

That sucks, mine was nowhere near that bad. I just had months of PT to get my muscles back up to strength. Initially I couldn't move like 5 pounds with my neck...and the average 18 year old is supposed to be at like 185 I think. Im pulling these numbers out of god knows where, but I was way below on the charts, and had to work back up to average in addition to lots of chiropractic stuff and the like.

Jom 09-22-2006 05:17 PM

True story:

My first physical therapist was this built - and I mean built - Scandanavian woman. Her name was either Helga or Olga; I don't remember exactly, but it WAS one of those two.

So we're just talking about my PT goals or whatever, and she's checking my pressure points in my spine and feeling my discs line up the way they are (instead of straight, they're... not-straight), and all of a sudden I hear her go, "HUNGHH!!" and I heard the biggest crack in my whole life because she pressed down on it, which made me arch myself in.

It felt so awful right away, but then felt awesome.
It was just scary as hell because it was quiet and then loud and jerky.

Permanent Solution 09-22-2006 05:20 PM

lol @ stereotypicalness

Yeah, chiropracticness is sweetness. You're like "Wow, they just broke my back" then you sit there and relax, and you get up, and it's like "oooo, so much better"

I can tell when my back's even a little out now because of the difference...and it still happens a lot alas :-\

I also had to do massage because it wreaked havoc on my muscle system. I'm seriously still tighter than most athletes I know :-\

No, I'm serious... this lady could kick my ass.
She was awesome, but then my insurance didn't cover subsequent visits, so I had to go my separate way.

Fortunately, though, she gave me a huge list of things I can do, so I owe a lot to her for keeping myself reasonably healthy.

When I'm having a bad day, I have to take Advil/Aleve/etc.
But, I haven't had to do it since... June, I think. So that's pretty good.

*knocks on wood*

What are you up to this weekend?

Haha, no it's just funny to see stereotypes enacted for real. Insurance is a bitch though. Our PT said we'd be healed in a few months back to 100% and the insurance company wouldn't let us go the last few months so as a result we've slipped from where we were since we never totally healed. :-\

Yeah, our PT is great, we could go in and he'd never charge us if it came to that...but my parents are good people.

I never take pain killers, i just deal heh. But good times to not even have a need to.

Well, usually I go over to my neighbors' Friday night for a party...but they just got a new neighbor who works at the facility and she's a real bitch...already gave them a 10 day warning to clean up or get evicted, and so I doubt that'll happen tonight, so I'm not sure. Beyond that, lots of hw/test prep for my three tests next week and a band audition Sunday and band practice with a diff band after that. You?

Jom 09-22-2006 05:43 PM

All of my professors have pushed back deadlines, so instead of this past week blowing goats, this upcoming one will.

But it's okay, because I think I did okay on my first paper and exam this past week... but I've been a pile of nerves so far because this is definitely one of my most challenging semesters thus far, and I'm hoping it's because it's the first five weeks of school and not the fact that I'm unconfident in my abilities... but diagnosing a hypothetical patient for the first time and not knowing if it's the real diagnosis is exhausting for me (because if I mis-diagnose I basically fail the paper) :\

Fridays I usually go over to my friends' apartment for a movie night and they have a bunch of people over, but I don't know if that's on or not because the last couple times we had a movie night, crappy girls have been over. By crappy I mean 'we don't like talking' even though we all ask polite questions about school/class/life/etc.

And it took us/them over 45 minutes to pick. A. Fucking. MOVIE. And it was a crappy movie, too. Well, not crappy, but I watched it pissed off/annoyed.

And one time I saw one of the crappy girls on campus and I waved and was like, 'Hey, Sam!' and she didn't acknowledge me.

I was like, 'Uh, lolz.'

Seriously, though... they do NOT talk at all. And they can't come to a decision. They're terrible guests.

I just hate feeling like my weekend/life is going to waste on account of other people.

But I don't fault my friends for it at all; it's just those same three girls that can't make a decision or engage in conversation.

And it's just basically going to be studying/football all weekend.
Just like every other autumn weekend :\

Haha, oh well.

Permanent Solution 09-22-2006 05:49 PM

I wish my teachers spread it out better, but all my tests were this week and next week :-\

My neighbors have hot girls over at every party. A few weeks ago they had the ASU dance team show up at their party. They even have a bar in their apartment, it's a kickass party place...shame that bitch hates fun. So many people hook up with great looking girls there it's not funny.

I hate the people who mess up my social life for being idiots too though.

TheBigMachine 09-22-2006 05:50 PM

I rolled my ankle yesterday, and today, we fly out for the National Championships, for soccer. I am so pissed.

Ice it. Seriously. On for 20, off for 20, no heat whatsoever.

Yeah, it's amusing how every single prof is behind schedule.
But, in their defense, it does say in their syllabi that classes are subject to change as they see fit.

And your neighbors seem awesome.

And the thing about those three girls... meh, you know. But two weeks ago my friends had these two other girls who were just flat-out awesome (pretty, told jokes, smiled a lot, actually engaged in conversation, etc.)... but we haven't seen them since because they're busy girls.

The other three probably just sit around and do nothing :p

Haha, fair enough. My profs just rush through everything pointing at the schedule on the syllabus :-\

The definitely are. The sort of guys who are happy because everyone else is happy.

Haha, yeah, the best girls are the busy ones it seems. Ah well. If the annoying ones put out, get em drunk and... <_<

Oh, trust me... if it was at my place, they wouldn't be there.
I would establish a "If you don't talk, get the FUCK out of my townhouse!" rule.

But, one of my friends invites them all the time, and it's his place, so I can't complain because that would be unjustified.

Maybe he just wants to feel like he has lots of friends or something

No worries, though.

Permanent Solution 09-22-2006 06:34 PM

Just be like "Who invited the uggos?"

They'll leave without you even having to ask.

Eliminator 09-22-2006 07:38 PM

I don't really get too much homework.

Kif 09-22-2006 07:39 PM

I'm going back to 6th form next week to pick up my songs on my the school's harddrive and HOPEFULLY a copy of my final CD. Also might as well get all my work for my uni course. I just hope some of it comes in handy.

If I get my CD then I'll post it in the upload thread. Yeah, I can see that going down well hah.

Yeah my sister reckons she gets about that. Four hours a day or something, but not on mondays or fridays cause that's her rest days :p

Anxious 09-22-2006 08:27 PM

I have monday off, inservice. But I don't call them inservices; I call them music and porn days.
