Bin Laden preached Muslim superiority (by blowing things up), and when he killed three thousand people and set off a chain of events that started a world war against the middle east, he saw the error of his ways and hasn't attacked anyone since, but instead wanders the mountains in solitude and ponders, with the occasional prophetic message of peace.

That's not true in the least. He still advocates war against America.

Converge#12 05-28-2006 01:59 PM

Honestly I only asked cause my friend wants a Malcolm X shirt. Yes, Malcolm X was a jerk. But this isnt the politics thread.

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:02 PM

Look what you did Converge! You're just like Bin Laden! You set off a dangerous series of events by making one silly little statement (and somewhere, three thousand lives are dying).

Guys, I was kidding about the whole Bin Laden thing.

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 02:03 PM

So what point were you trying to make?

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:06 PM

What are you talking about? It was a friendly exchange of insults and talking crap at each other!

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 02:07 PM

Oh, sweet! You filthy racist pig!

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:08 PM
Oh, sweet! You filthy racist pig!
Dude, harsh. I have a porcine left ventricle which I'm very sensitive about.

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 02:11 PM

Soo-eeeeeeeeee!

/hopes you get that

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:18 PM

Hah! Nailed you!

Brain Toad 05-28-2006 02:34 PM
Well I still don't support violence, and he still used his influence mainly to advocate hate and prejudice. I don't care if he changed his mind later, he was a racist for most of his life.
Wow, I didn't think you could get any dumber.

Ghostfire3 05-28-2006 02:36 PM

Yeah, he's hopeless.

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 02:38 PM
Wow, I didn't think you could get any dumber.
Oh, come on. What, he's remorseful about what he said for like 10 minutes and that's supposed to change the fact that he spent his life fighting for racial superiority? Fuck that. All right, maybe that changes a little bit about his personality but it doesn't make him somebody to look up to. What if Hitler became an activist against anti-semitism in his final years? Would that make him a hero?

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:38 PM

Face it, you got burned by a mod.:p

The man saw the error of his ways after his trip, came back to America and began fixing what he had done and started advocating for equality and peaceful protest rather than hate and racial superiority, had he not been killed, he would've reached the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr and had just as much influence. He was killed by people thinking he sold out the black race by changing his mind.

So what? He shared the mindset of many other black activists who would make much better heroes because they actually accomplished things. Whether or not it's Malcolm's fault, he really didn't have much of a career campaigning for racial equality and peace.

HE DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE. God you are ****ing thick.

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:44 PM

Quit, now. Big wide gap, right there. *Points*

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 02:44 PM
HE DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE. God you are ****ing thick.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER OR NOT HE HAD A CHANCE. He didn't do anything so why should I look up to him? I'm not saying he's a bad guy, I'm just saying there much better people in the civil rights movement to idolize than Malcolm X.

coheneran 05-28-2006 02:46 PM

Nick, you are participating in spam. This belongs in the Social Thread.

Brain Toad 05-28-2006 02:47 PM

I'm done, the guy is ****ing stupid and too ****ing thick to listen.

Yeah, that's much better than a logical argument.

No one said you had to look up to him. It's your choice of who you want to look up to. All we're trying to say is that he realized his errors and fixed them. He came back to America a changed man and unfortunately did not have a chance to express his new beliefs for a very long time. End of discussion.

Yeah, no shit. I never said that didn't happen.

Brain Toad 05-28-2006 02:56 PM

Then why the hell were arguing with me? From what I read you dismissed him completely as an activist. I'm not saying he is godly or should be looked up to by everyone, but realize the effect the man made and could've made.

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 03:28 PM
Then why the hell were arguing with me?
Actually, you're the one who jumped in and called me a moron before I said anything to you, probably before reading the last page of the thread.

asdf 05-28-2006 04:28 PM

/me brings order back to this thread

I started taking apart my bikes for the purpose of building a tall bike. It might prove to be more difficult than I thought, just because of the sheer difference in sizes between the two frames. I'll make it work somehow, though.

coheneran 05-28-2006 04:30 PM

You should keep a photo-diary of every stage and then write a guide on how to construct tall-bikes.

asdf 05-28-2006 04:34 PM
You should keep a photo-diary of every stage and then write a guide on how to construct tall-bikes.
I'm more likely to construct a guide on how not to make a tall bike.

Step one: garbage pick the worst bikes ever. Be sure that they are missing vital parts, and that they are completely different sized frames

Step two: Continuously forget to ask your friendly neighborhood welder if they will help you, just assuming that they will.

More steps to come!

coheneran 05-28-2006 04:37 PM

Yaaay! It would make a good zine, in all seriousness, a How-Not-To zine.

asdf 05-28-2006 04:40 PM
Yaaay! It would make a good zine, in all seriousness, a How-Not-To zine.
Indeed. I really should get pictures, but right now my bikes aren't very photogenic. They're in a pile in my disgusting garage.

Oh, that's another step: Be sure to not even bother clearing a good workspace for this construction to take place. Work in a garage that has no space, and no lights or access to electricity.

I'm really mad though, because in the process I found that the bike seat stem I was planning on using is rusted onto the frame in a way it cannot ever be removed (it's not a frame I'm planning on using at all either). I got the seat off, and I know for a fact I have a stem in my house that'll work (it was from my old bike) but I cannot for the life of me find it. My house is so disorganized.

coheneran 05-28-2006 05:15 PM

I have an idea for a street-art project in Hollywood:

Red spray paint to match the colour of the stars on the Boulevard, and a stencil with a name on it, whatever one can think of that is funny. You can work the rest out. Oh yes, some gold paint as well for the lettering.

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 06:10 PM

That's pretty cool. Doesn't even really need to be on the Boulevard, you could do that just about anywhere in the states and people would get it.

coheneran 05-28-2006 06:14 PM
That's pretty cool. Doesn't even really need to be on the Boulevard, you could do that just about anywhere in the states and people would get it.
No, I meant to modify the existing stars.

SantaDuJuan 05-28-2006 06:16 PM

Guys, I wear bandana's like hipsters.
Give me an idea to stencil on it.

Rise Me Up 05-28-2006 06:31 PM

Crass logo.
http://stencilpunks.mattrunningnaked.com/crass.gif

SantaDuJuan 05-28-2006 06:36 PM

I could.
Logos would be nice but nothing ghey.

Rise Me Up 05-28-2006 07:43 PM

What else would you want other than a logo?

Danger Bird 05-28-2006 07:46 PM
No, I meant to modify the existing stars.
Yeah, I got that, but you could also just make a star stencil and make your own around your home town.
