Adam Jones is GOD 03-29-2005 06:42 AM

Im getting Meshuggah's new album. Its a band who seems to fill that heavy void in my music collection, and im not going to do my usualy buy-their-back-catalogue trick. "I" is doing well on its own for me at the moment.

And i've walked pasted someone today wearing an Ænima tour t-shirt. I feel insignificant.

the2stranger 03-29-2005 07:13 AM

I have one Tool shirt, looks a bit with a big flame on the back and a lot of numbers and all, abit like the rear of the black coverthingy on the lateralus album

Adam Jones is GOD 03-29-2005 07:15 AM

I've got two, both Lateralus. One with the Alex Grey human figurwe on the back. The other is the Third eye on the front and on the back with some cool fretboard graphic effect

clearvision 03-29-2005 08:20 AM

At some point i shall purchase the standard tool shirt, as modelled by jack osbourne and charlie from busted. Black with a white tool logo on the front. Not much of a band shirt fan..

Adam Jones is GOD 03-29-2005 08:32 AM

I only get tour shirts after a gig, or ones that appeal to me visually. And thankfull, the Lateralus shirts all have interesting designs on, and look good as just a regular shirt, without advertising the band

Darkness 03-29-2005 11:18 AM

I want a Tool shirt sooooo bad... latly I've bought anything I could find that says tool on it... so far only a wrist band which I wear all the time :) and a patch which I plan on haveing put on my guitar strap... but yeah I desperatly need a shirt.

the2stranger 03-29-2005 12:13 PM

their shirts aren't all that easy to come by, I will buy a shirt if I see them on tour.
tour shirts are unique, and thab I've got proof that the gig wasn't just a dream.
cause I think I'll be in extase if I see them

i'm just curious to hear everyone's opinion on where to draw the line between fanboy and non-fanboy, please be explicit, I'm afraid of being labeled one, maybe just because i feel like i've noticed every subtle nuance in every tool song from listening to them so many times and i kinda separate myself from other music for weeks or months at a time because i can't get tool out of my head. I like alot of other bands, but i can't imagine finding a new band that i will like as much as tool, no matter how hard i look... btw i can play most tool songs on bass and guitar, but i really want a drumset so i can tear shi+ up like danny

Darkness 03-29-2005 12:58 PM

This is just my thoughts on it, which probably isn't correct. Fanboys beleive that the band they worship is basically the best, when I say that I meen they think, lets say tool, is the best and not just there favorite but the best band there is which is just plain wrong... I don't really know how to explain lol...well I tried.

BassInvader 03-29-2005 01:03 PM

another sidenote, does anyone else think that when the silence is broken in ticks and leeches about 6 minutes into the song, that may be the most jamming piece of music that tool has ever written, and it sucks that they wont play it live, i would still love to hear that song instrumentally, any comments?

Darkness 03-29-2005 01:06 PM

It is played live. I have the boot.

BassInvader 03-29-2005 01:17 PM

i really dont like the intense screaming too much in that song anyways, i wonder if they could just play a recording of maynards screams and then let him continue on with the softer parts, because there are some awesome vocals in that song, my favorite scream of maynards would have to be on the grudge, it fits the aggression of the song so well.... let go

misunderstood 03-29-2005 01:31 PM

I remember when I saw Tool live two years ago, they did this 15-min. jam without vocals or anything. Danny was so dam(n) great! At the time they were on tour with Meshuggah so they brought out their drummer and joined Tool. Adam, Justin, and Maynard (on either bass or guitar...don't remember) played also but it was of course more of a Danny "thing". It was just awesome. Oh and yeah, Tool tour shirts are pretty hard to come across. I've seen very very few people with them..I've got one.

A fanboy is someone who worships one band. This person also dismisses others' opinions that may be negative towards that band. This person mentions their band in EVERY argument about music too. This person thinks that ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING done by the band is brilliant. These people are closed-minded and ignorant.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-29-2005 01:37 PM

On the shirt discussion, I'm not a big band-shirt guy. But when I see an interesting looking shirt, I'll buy one. I have a rare AiC shirt with Jesus shackled up, and a Tool shirt with some mind-blowing art on it.

Mambuto_O'Mally 03-29-2005 02:43 PM

I've got a question. Which is the song (it's on one of the EP's) that has the words "its a psycadellic experience?"

clearvision 03-29-2005 02:51 PM

Pretty sure that's merkaba off the salival boxset...

Merkaba

There are no words.

Samples:

[it's / having / in] some kind of psychedelic experience.

Our body is light, we are immortal.
Our body is love, we are eternal.
Eternal..

Omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, without judgment." [/quote]

but it could be holy experience, in that case it would be parabol/a off lateralus.

This is more or less a good explanation of a fanboy.

I'm definately not a fanboy of Tool, as I can cite many criticisms of them, even though I do think they're a brilliant band, I can see their faults.

It's an amazing part. I like how it reflects the part immediately after it. Same beat, just louder. Cool stuff. Makes the part following even better; a good "buil-up" if you will.

Dried Muffin Remnants 03-29-2005 03:31 PM

I can confidantly say that I am not a fanboy either. I like a lot of other bands and I am also critical of some of the stuff they do. One thing I CANNOT stand, however, is when somebody blindly criticizes a band I like. Explain yourself, or get flamed. That's my philosophy. Meh, maybe I'm wrong. I just don't like it.

BlindWriting 03-29-2005 03:48 PM

Sorry for the topic change, but I just spent a lot of time in Dissectional...
Anyone ever really explored it? See anything particularly interesting?

Yeah, you have to find a medium. You can't blindly praise nor blindly criticise.

Since it is out of print now, it is kinda difficult to find but you could look for it on ebay. the prices on it usually go pretty high though. I'm not sure if there is actually another place where you can get it.

Darkness 03-29-2005 06:13 PM

To bad its out of print...
