I have listened to the whole album, and I have to say I am a bit let down.

again, Orchid > all Opeth albums.

The Cynic 09-03-2005 03:44 PM

Does anybody know where to find some Official Opeth Guitar Books? I'm looking for SL, MAYH, and BWP.

Eww..I dislike Orchid greatly. It's the only Opeth album I actually don't like. To be honest, if you disregard Deliverance, Opeth seem to be getting better and better. Though, BWP is the exception. I still think that's their best.

Darkness 09-03-2005 03:50 PM

I don't get how Deliverance is so unliked by so many. I think its an awesome record, not a bad track. A little rough around the production area, and some of the guitars sounded pretty hollow but the songs are all epicily awesome IMO.

Kage 09-03-2005 03:53 PM

I like Deliverance as well, but the reason I think I don't like it as much as their others is because when I bought it, I was let down by it because none of the songs, in my opinion, lived up to the title track, which I was completely blown away by. The other songs were good, but I wasn't blown away.

I didn't think Opeth had any official books. If they do, I want them ASAP.

My favorite song on that album is 'By the Pain I See In Others' :p

Blaaaaaaaarrrgggeee! How can you dislike Orchid? Such a good album.

Det_Nosnip 09-03-2005 04:42 PM

I'm not a huge fan of it either. IMO, there are some cool riffs and ideas, but the songs lack direction, are often structured poorly, and the production blew.

There's the perfect answer why I don't like it.

RouteOne 09-03-2005 04:47 PM

Well, I love it, along with the rest of there earlier stuff. I guess I'm a sucker for dual harmonies. :D

Yeah, they don't seem to be able to top or even equal Blackwater Park.

after a few listens I am a bit let down too, it not bad music, but it doesn't live up to Opeth standards.

my favorite remains: Morningrise

I guess I just liked them when they played their more melodic stuff. All of their albums are good though.

Special Brew 09-03-2005 05:45 PM

The new album does have a lot less atmosphere to it. It is still my second favorite, but that may be due to it being a new album that hasn't sunk all the way in yet.

Prince of Darkness 09-03-2005 05:47 PM

Are you guys also checking for a new name?

Serenity Painted Thead.

They do. On several tabs I've seen them say that it came from the offical book, but I have no luck finding them.

SomeGuySomewhere 09-03-2005 07:23 PM

I've actually gave a bunch of listens to the new album, I actually quite like a lot. To me it's easily above MAYH and ****ation on my most "mood for" list of Opeth's albums since I like all the albums equal.

Killtacular 09-03-2005 08:43 PM

I just saw the Grand Conjuration video on Headbanger's Ball. I'm pretty sure it was shortened, but I did catch it in progress. Didn't make much sense, but it didn't really matter, because it looked kickass. They all had heavy metal hair.

Darkness 09-03-2005 09:18 PM

The song time for the video is less then half the normal song time... bit disappointing, but oh well.

Killtacular 09-03-2005 09:40 PM

I caught it in the middle, so I couldn't tell. Since it was Mtv, I assumed it was shortened significantly. Reminds me of when I saw the video for Dream Theater's Pull Me Under on there. It was like 4 minutes long instead of 8.

adioviva 09-03-2005 09:50 PM

where did opeth's name come from, isnt it a type of mineral water generally found in the catskills mountain area?

Darkness 09-03-2005 09:52 PM

No... the original name was Opet, which meens the city of the moon, they just added the H I guess.

Killtacular 09-03-2005 09:53 PM

Any reason for that H to be added? Just seems arbitrary to me.

Darkness 09-03-2005 09:54 PM

I donno... sounds better? + to originality?

Killtacular 09-03-2005 09:59 PM

I suppose. Kudos to them for adding an arbitrary H. Opeth sounds better than Opet, seems.

Special Brew 09-03-2005 10:19 PM

It may just be translated differently or something, idk.

Reflection 09-03-2005 10:27 PM

That's my guess.

adioviva 09-03-2005 10:37 PM

I heard opeth means hash brownie in dutch. Is this true?

Killtacular 09-03-2005 10:41 PM

I don't see a reason for it to be, seeing as they're Swedish. So I doubt it.

adioviva 09-03-2005 10:42 PM

Maybe it means hash brownie in sweedish... thought of that yet?
