^ They're both metalcore :p

Here are some hardcore bands you might like Cob:

Go It Alone
Modern Life Is War
Set It Straight
Set Your Goals (they have hardcore and pop-punk influences)
Crime In Stereo
Mental
Marathon
Dead Hearts

HomeCatMickey8 12-09-2005 08:04 PM

PureVolume won't work for me. I don't know why, and I want to download weird experimental rap.

Neither of them are Metalcore. They don't have metalcore guitars or vocals.
Naw, B. The only band he likes that im not huge on or didnt get him into is pink floyd, even though theyre the only band from before the early 90's that is allright to me. Even though he likes some of the same music as me, i think he likes it just because i do. I honestly think, like i said, the only band he really like is pink floyd, although it doesnt show in his songwriting, which sounds like HIM. Maybe he does like the same music as me, but isnt nearly as passionate as i am about it. The most pumped he's ever been was whenever he said 'Coheed and cambria are good'. Thats pretty much the most hell get worked up over how good music is.

Thanks again Poisontheflag. Ive heard stuff from terror, i didnt like it.

EDIT: Darkest Hour = Nice.
Music isn't a contest to see who likes it more.

ZaaR 12-09-2005 08:06 PM

I forgot about Trivium.

I'm almost positive that both are regarded as metalcore. They definitely aren't hardcore.

Not to say that is a bad thing by any means, as they are two of the best metalcore bands around.

Edit - I don't want to get into an argument over genres. They're awesome bands, so it really doesn't matter too much what genre they fall into.

ZaaR 12-09-2005 08:14 PM

What makes them metalcore though? I hear no obvious influences in the guitar lines as you can hear in bands like A7X, God Forbid and like wise acts.

I forgot God Forbid:

cobert 12-09-2005 08:15 PM
And two more hardcore bands are Converge, and Poison the Well, but I'm sure you've heard of them.
Yeah, i've heard from both of them.

Thx B-ran, ill check out some more modern life is war, ive already heard a little stuff. Everyone likes them.

And Joel: Im not saying it is, im just saying it feels like he cant get excited over music, taht doesnt make me better. It's just that he aims to write music that people will like (whether he thinks its good or not), while i aim to write music that I like, and people buying it is just a nice extra. He just seems so sneaky all the time, like he's trying to get ahead of everyone else in everything that he does instead of having fun and making music.

So, my response just went into another rant.

Maybe that's just how he expresses how he likes music. It ain't no thang.

Gnarmageddon 12-09-2005 08:16 PM

Darkest Hour is sex.

ZaaR 12-09-2005 08:18 PM

Feeling better Spence?

Gnarmageddon 12-09-2005 08:21 PM

Yeah, a bit. My fever's down to about 100, but I'm doing a lot better.

Thanks.
What makes them metalcore though? I hear no obvious influences in the guitar lines as you can hear in bands like A7X, God Forbid and like wise acts.
I think metalcore can be used to cover a wide variety of bands. I mean, bands like Norma Jean and Every Time I Die are more or less accepted as metalcore, yet their sound is obviously quite different from say A7X. Either way, it's all metalcore.

I might be a little bit off on that, but I know they aren't hardcore at least. If Chris was here, he'd be able to explain it better than I can. :p

ZaaR 12-09-2005 08:23 PM

I like discussions about music. I always learn a little more. :)

Gnarmageddon 12-09-2005 08:24 PM

I always thought Metalcore used a lot of 'JUN JUN's and stuff.

cobert 12-09-2005 08:26 PM
Maybe that's just how he expresses how he likes music. It ain't no thang.
Yeah, i guess so.

Either my other friend needs to learn guitar, or i need frinds from other schools, since i REALLY want to start another band with people that like the same stuff as me. Not only because of troubles in the main band, but beacuse my guitarist is moving to colorado when he graduates. Its still 2 years away, but at the pace we're moving....

I always figured converge and poison the well were metalcore, also.

Gnarmageddon 12-09-2005 08:27 PM

For some reason, Converge reminds me of grind. A lot. I'd say they could easily pass as a grind band.

Mute Print 12-09-2005 08:27 PM

Here is the Hardcore forums definition of Metalcore:

Metalcore is obviously metal influenced and because they're of this there is more complexity in the writings of guitar, more noted riffs added to it than hardcore has.. Some say that it has punk influences...but that depends on what band you are talking about. Metalcore has a lot of breakdowns, most of which have the "JUN JUN JUN" sound which some double bass. Metalcore was a lot better a couple years ago before more and more band's started learning that you can tune into drop-C, use only thin picks, and get a drummer who knows his double bass.

As well as their top 25 metalcore albums of all-time:

1. Converge- Jane Doe
2. Converge- You Fail Me
3. Converge- When Forever Comes Crashing
4. Unearth- The Oncoming Storm
5. Poison the Well- The Opposite Of December
6. Converge- Petitioning The Empty Sky
7. As I Lay Dying- Frail Words Collapse
8. Death By Stereo- Into The Valley Of Death
9. Killswitch Engage- Killswitch Engage
10. Every Time I Die- Hot ****!
11. Norma Jean- Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child
12. Killswitch Engage- Alive Or Just Breathing
13. Poison The Well- You Come Before You
14. From Autumn to Ashes- The Fiction We Live
15. Misery Signals- Of Malice And The Magnum Heart
16. Unearth- The Stings of Conscience
17. Darkest Hour- Hidden Hands Of A Sadist Nation
18. Avenged Sevenfold- Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
19. Killswitch Engage- The End of Heartache
20. Throwdown- Haymaker
21. Norma Jean- O' God, The Aftermath
22. Fordirelifesake- Breathing In Is Only Half The Function
23. The Agony Scene- The Agony Scene
24. Cave In- Until Your Heart Stops
25. Walls Of Jericho- All Hail The Dead

Honorable Mentions:
Martyr AD- On Earth As Is It In Hell
Atreyu- Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses
All Else Failed- Archetype
Underminded - Hail Unamerican!
Every Time I Die- Last Night In Town

This does a good job of showing the variety of bands that can be described as metalcore.

ZaaR 12-09-2005 08:28 PM

Well, I think metalcore is that sound with the guitars that are like solos that are played as rythm, if you know what I mean... Like the tone and everything. I just don't get that metally vibe from Converge and Poison the Well.

cobert 12-09-2005 08:32 PM

Im pretty sure the simplest way to describe meatlcore is metal with breakdowns. Of course, this gives alot of room for bands to be described as metalcore.

Im gonna watch some TV. Thanks for the reccomendations.
