64 bit is an overkill because the amount of applications that use 64 bit is very low, and also there is a high amount of unstability related to 64 bit system.

Processors speeds seem to be becoming a thing of the past when choosing computers. Most people seem to go for set ups with decent screens and graphic cards.

Funny how the thing that determines how fast the system works together is one of the things they don't put in the specs. Northbridge chipset is the most important thing on your computer probably.

hmmm somehow me thinks that's not so. If doubling a processor speed was so easy... it'd be done a lot more.
Explain this additional virtual core thing? I'd like to try it on mine.

You have to buy the ones with the little HT badge on them. If you go to manage system from my computer (i take it you know how to do that, if you don't.... meh)
Device manage -> Processors

In mine there are 2 processors. this is because of the way the processor is built and stuff, it creates a virtual copy of it's self. If i turn the second one off through the Bios, my computer is about 1/2 the speed.

Because of this virtual core, windows therefore shifts it's resources around and therefore, creates up more processing power, giving it the equivalent of a 6Ghz processor. Alot of P4's had it. If you have a prescott or other high end P4, chances are you'll have it. It's so good you can actually choose which programs and services run on which processor.

Hyperthreading does not double the clock speed, it's supposed to make the processor better at handling multiple tasks at once.
If that processor was running at 6GHz, even the antarctic couldn't keep it cold. The P4 chips already run hot as it is.

Spending extra on the Graphics card will net you higher gains than spending that extra money on a processor.

I managed to get the top parts of hte invisible shield looking decent, but I used too much spray on the sides of the back sheild and it's not sticking right.

And yes, it does have serious cooling issues.

Nah, that's still not the equivelent. It's just a different way of handling the instructions. People throw terms around like it's crazy rad language.
The only way to run at 6ghz, is to run at 6ghz. That's 6,000 flipflops a second.

How one uses that descision making potential is competelly different.

Now a lot of people [I]have[/I] overclocked 3.4p4's to 6 ghz. Would prob make for some heat issues.

My p4 is great, I think people just dunno how to do stuff and overload the case with junk. I the stock heat sink and the stock fan. I average about 85 degree's F, and have occasionally hit 110F (like twice int he past year) with some crazy multi-tasking + game playing. That was also during the summer, when the room temp was about 90.
Intel claims the redzone is 134F, and the chip could prob handle up to 160 or so.

The higest i've gone is 75. If i go above that, some stupid program my motherboard drivers loaded on start beeping, and then if it goes to like 80, it starts to shut down.

At the moment it's 70 because i've been playing need for speed and my heatsink and cooler are shocking. My stock one broke, i accidently dropped something in my "case" whilst it was running and it broke a fan blade.

I don't have a case, i have a shell. It has no cover. You'd think it would keep it cool but it doesn't because it doesn't have the proper circulation.

Sounds like you are talking in C.

Cause 75 degree's F is nothing. 70C on the other hand is very hot. Prob be wise to purchase a new workign heatsink and fan, and perhaps install another fan in the front of the case.
