Can people here start talking about Jimi Hendrix?
Favorite songs maybe? Jimi rules. |
So, who was the 6th Beatle anyway?
Can people here start talking about Jimi Hendrix?
Favorite songs maybe? Jimi rules.
Jimi was pretty great, but his music is something I have to kinda be in the mood for, if that makes any sense. My favorite Hendrix song would have to be "The Wind Cries Mary." |
I really like "Voodoo Child" and "Easy Rider."
|
So, who was the 6th Beatle anyway?
Yoko Ono. That, or George Martin. Hendrix - Little Wing is my favorite song. |

Beyond the fab four, there was Pete Best on drums, and Stu Sutcliffe on bass. My favorite Hendrix song is probably Little Wing. |
Wait...is "Little Wing" on that album?
Nope...I'm not sure which album it's on, but it's not AYE. |
Little Wing is on Axis: Bold as Love.
|
I don't like the Stevie Ray Vaughn version as much.
|
I really like Clapton's cover of it on the Rainbow Concert. It's probably one of my top 3 Hendrix songs, with Along the Watchtower and Machine Gun.
|
Yeah, the version on the Rainbow Concert is excellent.
|
i like bold as love, the song. its sgreat.

Speaking of Dylan and Hendrix I just bought
Bob Dylan-The Times They Are a Changin' Bob Dylan-Bringing it all Back Home Jimi Hendrix-Jimi Hendrix Live at Woodstock 2 disc DVD(My 3rd Hendrix DVD ) Howlin' Wolf-The London Sessions* *features Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman |

Howlin' Wolf-The London Sessions* *features Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman
i have that. its pretty cool. not wolf's best singing but the backing band is top notch. and wolf is great anyway. |
Yeah, I havent listened to it all the way through but it sounds pretty good. This was only 6 years before his death. I like that part on "The Red Rooster" where they convince him to play guitar.
|

haha, did you read the liner notes. he totally didnt want to do it. |
Haha Yeah.
I just also found out that on "I Aint Superstitious" Ringo Starr pays drums. |
ooooh.
claptons got his signature all over that album. and he like, goes back to the sound he had with john mayall. |
ooooh.

Yeah his playing really reminds me of that album.
Also reading the booklet, I noticed that like have the songs are by Willie Dixon. Thats practically all Willie Dixon did was write songs for other artists most notably Buddy Guy and Howlin Wolf. I only have one song by Dixon on my computer and that would be the original Spoonful. |
Howlin' Wolf....possibly the greatest singer ever and not just in the Blues either. Man could he sing! He pumped his songs to the brim with pure emotion. I mean when that 300 pound man picked up the mic and started wailin', you KNEW you were going to hear some real blues. Un-like so much of what this thread talks about and considers real Blues you know all the white British guys. (Clapton, Stones, Beck...etc) If you only want one album of his, I'd recommend the two-for-one Howlin' Wolf/Moanin' in the Moonlight. For all the music you get, it's really a steal. If you want a song to download, try "Smokestack Lightnin".
Edit: After reading that it really made it seem like I was trashing the British Blues Rock just so you know I didn't mean it. ;) |

I never heard of him before I saw him on No Direction Home . I was impressed |
So when is this small legion of classic rockers going to over run R&M?
|
So when is this small legion of classic rockers going to over run R&M?
When the R&M develops good taste of course. :) |
^ We used to run this place.....now we're just blowin' in the wind. :upset:
I hope soon. There's WAY to many Metal Heads in here. It's like they've trippled in population since I first became a member. I just wish we had a Rock forum. :( I'm seeing Santana AND Robert Randolph tomorrow. |

I don't know who in this thread ever called Clapton or the Stones "real blues". I like to think most can distinguish traditional blues from blues rock.
I hope soon. Really! I mean WTF!!! We have like a 10 to 1 Metal Head to Rock fan ratio in R&M it's outragious! A Rock forum would have more traffic than Alt & Indie at least and It would'nt be a huge loss to this forun anymore. I feel like I'm the only one trying to fight for this. :(
I'm really tired of hearing you and everyone else bitch about the metalheads. What the hell are they doing to hurt you?
I've got nothing aginst Metal Heads (I highly respect some of them) it's just the Rock talk in R&M has seemingly disappeared because there are sooo many Metal Heads on this forum. A Rock forum would be nice. |
