My school didn't offer Italian. I took Latin.

And I agree, Ray, it is annoying how everyone bashes the USA national team. But honestly, who cares? It just makes it that much more satisfying when we win games.

I predict another good showing from us at the next world cup in Germany.

No, I don't. I'm talking about the illegal immigrants that flood this town and all the shops and billboards with Spanish phrases on it, not explaining them in English. This town is more like Mexico then California. And no, I don't think I'd have Spanish mastered because, hey, I can't talk that fast. Besides, they're not fleeing Mexico. They're taking our jobs here so they could get money, then go back to Mexico and give their money away. I don't blame them either.

For the most part, they're not taking your jobs, unless you work at a sweat shop.

It gets really annoying, but as I put it in the Sports forum, everyone bashed our hockey team in the 1980 Olympics and look what happened.

You do realize what jobs they are doing right? They aren't exactly taking the most desirable jobs. When is the last time you saw an illegal immigrant as a weatherman, etc?

ATM, I ****ing LIVE in California in a town near the border. I know what kind of jobs they are doing. But you know what? My dad also does a "less desireable" job; he owns a one-man parking lot construction company. And I can't tell you how many times he's lost a bid for a job because there's a company hiring illegal immigrants because they have more manpower. Sure, they're making their living, but what about us?

I understand what you are saying, but I'm speaking in general terms. There are so many upper-class snobs that are constantly lumping a lot of the problems in this country on the immigrants coming in. It's just my opinion, though.

Firstoff, I will voice my opinions on last night sucking dick. I just said **** it and gave my parents the interim report. I shan't go into details, but they got pissed and I got into a three way bitch fight with my mom and dad. This morning I talked to the band teacher like always, because she's cool, and she said we didn't even have to show those to out parents. My reaction: ****. It's overwith now, but if I ****ing fail this grade, my God. Nothing happened in homeroom or band, and in Science we listened to the teacher ramble on about cliteris and menstration. I had to give notes to every teacher from my dad asking that they give me weekly progress reports and ****. At the end of Science we had to stay in class 15 minutes after the bell ( I read Great Gatsby the whole time ) because they were bringing in drugsniffing dogs and ****.

Heh, we get exposed to it at an early age. We don't dub any programs, so it's all subtitled so we pick up quite a bit of English, also through the internet.
We start getting it in school at the age of 12, I think. Dutch and English are both Germanic languages too, so it's easier for us to learn than say: Italian.

Don't be misled though, not everyone speaks it as good as I do. A lot of people are really bad at it, but almost everyone knows *some* English, even if it is crappy.

English has very few regular verb patterns, and theres all the words spelt similarly or the same, but with completely different sounds and meanings. eg:
bow, bow, bough, though, cough, rough, etc.

Plus we have a lot of trivial grammar rules. I don't know any offhand but I learned a lot of them while preparing for the SATs.

Well, technically not, I think. But it is probably the most widely spread language along with French and Spanish. But in numbers it isn't second I think, because of China and India.

Trust me, a lot of languages have their part of totally random rules. Not just English, although English can be pretty chaotic. That's the problem with English, it seems easy at first, but when you study it at Uni, like me, it's very difficult.

Translation sites suck. They are the main reason why I didn't do well in Spanish.
