Oh he's talented, but the first half of that solo is just cheesy bull**** with him ****ing around with stupid sounds and facial expressions. Of course, after that wanky crap, he goes into the amazing part of the solo that gives me goosebumps, but I just wish I didn't have to sit through the first part.
What solo were we talking about again?

eighty d 01-29-2006 04:58 PM

Rudess's solo spot on the Budokan DVD. And I agree 100%. For such a talented keyboardist, he can sure put together a shitty solo sometimes. His tone in the first part alone makes me cringe every time I hear it. And the fact that he's just wanking around with no structure or progression doesn't help either.

The second half of the solo, I absolutely love. It's a measure of how insanely good that part is that it can make up completely for the first part in my mind.

and now rudess has improved to add the power of a breath-taking beard to the baldness of invincibility

to people who have been to DT shows: how hard core are they about staying in your seat if you're on the floor? also, what's your best method for sneaking a digital camera in (not a camera phone)?

to people who have seen DT on this current tour: how much octivarium do they do, I know it's like the "20th anniversay tour" but it's not that long since 8vm was released? am I going to get screwed out of some of DT's great tracks to see 4+ 8vm songs? I really only like panic attack, never enough and the root of all evil

seeing DT on March 17th!

I have some of the same questions because Im seeing them April first.

They may open with a few Octavarium songs, but I think the majority will be classic DT songs.

Yeah, LaBrie owns on Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Lord of Sword 01-29-2006 07:23 PM

when i saw them in october, the first set opened with the root of all evil, as did all the gigs i think, and then never enough, but the rest of that set was just working through the albums up to SFAM. i can't remember exactly what they played in the 2nd set, but i think they played panic attack, sacrificed sons and octavarium from the new album. those 3 were alternated with different songs at other gigs, and sometimes replaced with non-8vm songs like learning to live.

i would have preferred some other tracks too, especially instead of sacrificed sons which isn't the best live song, at least not until JP's solo. i was hoping for learning to live instead but they'd already played that at the previous show in london.
i missed their concert last night :( they were playing in singapore and i couldn't get a flight ticket. probably going to be awhile till they play in SEA again...

i was looking forward to hearing them play live too. what does LaBrie do when Petrucci is soloing?
Lebrie goes off stage and plays !!Mortal Kombat!! during the solos just so he has another good talent. he dosent wany to stand out there for 15 minutes while the other guys are soloing or doing instrumentals, he wants to go rip 3D guys heads off and beat the crap out of opponents in !!Mortal Kombat!!

I hope they come and play in SEA soon. I really want to see them too.

Mr.Metalton 01-30-2006 01:49 AM

Meh, I personally don't like the way he just leaves the stage, I mean, what do Jon Anderson or Ian Gilian do when their bands go off on long instrumental breaks?

No, I'm not saying TSHF is bad, he stopped singing certain songs when he became Christian. But still DT have been religious all along so I doubt they'd not play any songs because of bad lyrics.

If he doesn't feel comfortable playig it... it sucks that it's your favourite though, that's why you're bitter :p

I would be pissed off if he decided to stop playing Tornado of souls...
