Video of what? By the way, did you write that parody, or did someone else do it?
Gilmour on SNL. A Friend of mine showed it to me.

robo2448 08-07-2005 05:18 PM
Does anyone know how is the relationship between Gilmour and Syd (if there is any)? Did they ever get to meet each other?
I think I heard that Gilmour actually taught Syd guitar when they were friends in school.

Riva 08-07-2005 06:23 PM

Aaron, why would we be offended by a video of Gilmour on SNL?

Kingofdudes 08-07-2005 06:38 PM

/fanboy'd

BludgeonySteve 08-07-2005 07:58 PM

Pink Floyd fanboys are the best kind of fanboy. They're worth being a fan boy.

Illmatic 08-07-2005 08:05 PM

This shirt > Animals and DSoTM shirts

Flaminghotchino 08-07-2005 09:39 PM

I have a DSotM shirt. Didn't really want it because everyone had it, but my mom picked it up for me so why the hell not.. And A Wish You Were Here shirt..thats really cool.

BludgeonySteve 08-07-2005 10:48 PM

Animals is so good! Dogs and Pigs (3 different ones) give me goosebumps.

Drugstep 08-07-2005 11:29 PM

I've only heard Dogs, and I thought it was awful.

Just long, boring, repetitive, and not emotional.

Riva 08-08-2005 03:00 AM
I've only heard Dogs, and I thought it was awful.

You won't like SYOCD (6-9) then.

Probably better off sticking to DSotM and The Wall, actually.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 03:10 AM

I dislike Dark Side too, generally. Us and Them, Brain Damage and Eclipse are cool sometimes, but I prefer the Wall.

Riva 08-08-2005 03:12 AM

Hmmm... Have you heard any Barrett era PF? Maybe you'd like that era, it is basically shorter and psychadelic.

Try out songs like Bike and Vegetable Man.

Also, you could try songs from More, like The Niles Song, and Cymbaline.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 03:22 AM

I was considering doing that at some point. WHen I'm through listening to SOYCD later I'll try to give those a shot.

moaner 08-08-2005 06:02 AM

the wall is about as emotional as breezeblocks, musically.

I didnt like it much at first.
Listen to Pigs 3 Different ones it's catchier

I bet your not a guy who enjoys guitar solos..

WheepingGuitar39 08-08-2005 07:32 AM

my friend who's nowhere near as much of a fan of Pink floyd as i am has a DSOTM shirt
so just before school ended, i found myself a Animals shirt, a bit small but it's ok.
It's red, and it has the pig's metal skeleton
and it says Pink Floyd Animals... a bit crooked and the "D" from Floyd is kind of too close to the armpit

but I still own everyone with my Animals shirt.

BludgeonySteve 08-08-2005 10:11 AM

Yep yep. Animals is where it's at. If anyone ever has doubts about Gilmour being awesome, Pigs (3 different ones) will change their mind. Solo as the end=pgpo, gpmgomg

temporary 08-08-2005 10:12 AM
Animals is so good! Dogs and Pigs (3 different ones) give me goosebumps.
Pigs is definitely my favorite, although I have to admit Dogs is a tad overrated (not to say I don't love the guitar solos.) Wright simply owns on Sheep and Pigs. I love the middle of Pigs with the distorted screams. The vocals rock, too. The middle part of Sheep with the computer reading Psalm 21 sounds like something Radiohead would do.

RideTheLightning03 08-08-2005 11:24 AM
The middle part of Sheep with the computer reading Psalm 21 sounds like something Radiohead would do.
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of fucked up acid trip ?

DeusExMachina 08-08-2005 01:57 PM

Med, why'd you clear your post count?

I never did one of those lyrical analysis things, too much of a wuss to put out my opinion. Maybe I should try it. What currently needs to be done that hasn't been claimed already.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 01:59 PM
I bet your not a guy who enjoys guitar solos..
I love guitar solos, I just don't think Gilmour is too great.

I have a feeling Dogs would be better if I listened to it:
A. Along with the rest of the disc, and
B. In the dark, like all music should be listened to
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of ****ed up acid trip ?
The radiohead comparison? Listen to "Fitter Happier"

Prince of Darkness 08-08-2005 02:33 PM

I dont like Animals. I recently started listening to Meddle. It Rocks.

robo2448 08-08-2005 05:03 PM

I love Animals. It's probably been my favorite Floyd albums over the last week or so. Pigs is amazing.

BigTrav415 08-08-2005 05:41 PM

Ok, I'm making this post while my mom is screaming at me to leave, so I'm condensing it to a list

1. I didn't have time to catch up on the last few pages, but I call Sheep if noone else has. I actually called it a while ago, but w/e

2. Cartman on South Park said "haha, charade you are". idk if it was a quote from Pigs, but I think so.

3. Astronomy Domine is now my favorite Floyd song

4. PinkFloyd, I believe your user title is from When The Tigers Broke Free

That's all for now, will get back on later after this last long hiatus.

Big-Bird 08-08-2005 05:58 PM
Also, he's such a hypocrite.

he keeps going on about how much he loves the blues, but i don't hear an ounce of blues influence in any of his playing. Dave is an extremely bluesy player sometimes, but roger? no.

In live at pompeii, which one band member isn't having fun playing "seamus"?
Late: Well everyone knows Roger is a horrible musician and obviously he's having some trouble playing the blues :D

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-08-2005 06:01 PM

So I picked up Guitarworld yesterday() and there are a couple videos of Gilmour giving us a 'lesson' on how to play Breathe and Us and Them. It's not that informative at all, but it's cool to see him playing.

pigonthewing82 08-08-2005 06:04 PM

Well you can still love a type of music but not play it. I love punk (not the crap on the radio the older or under ground stuff) but there is not a bit of punk influence in anything that I've written.

And yes Animals is great, I love the keybord intro to Pigs (Three Different Kinds). Even though its not really complex, it is probally my favorite peice that Wright has written. Its just such a good opener.

temporary 08-08-2005 06:07 PM
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of fucked up acid trip ?
The part of the song I mentioned is quite clearly there... Or if you meant the the Radiohead comparison, just listen to anything from Kid A (Fitter, Happier in particular, as another poster pointed out.)

pigonthewing82 08-08-2005 06:21 PM

Yeah its not sung the way the rest of the song is you need to listen for it. At first I thought it was just sound random sound effects being put in like Pink Floyd does on some songs, until I saw the lyrics to the song and it was there. If you know what there saying it is pretty clear that its there.

temporary 08-08-2005 06:32 PM
If you know what there saying it is pretty clear that its there.
Kind of like the messages in Stairway. ;)

Uh, that song is from OK Computer. :-/

Jude 08-08-2005 06:38 PM
Kind of like the messages in Stairway. ;)
The ones in the Floyd song are clearly a message poking fun at the people listening, though, whereas the Stairway ones are some far-fetched lyrics that you have to try to here.

This reminds me, how exactly do you 'play records backward?' I have The Wall on vinyl and I've wanted to try but I'm not sure what you're supposed to do. Spinning it backward manually doesn't work because you can't get a constant speed.

temporary 08-08-2005 07:47 PM
The ones in the Floyd song are clearly a message poking fun at the people listening, though, whereas the Stairway ones are some far-fetched lyrics that you have to try to here.
Definitly true. The whole Stairway thing was definitly made up. The Floyd ones are there on some songs though, which is really cool.
Uh, that song is from OK Computer. :-/
Oh, it is? *Feels very stupid.*

DeusExMachina 08-08-2005 07:49 PM

You have the wall on vinyl? I am jealous. I don't know how to actually play records backwards, however.

WheepingGuitar39 08-08-2005 08:21 PM
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of fucked up acid trip ?
Not at all
Floyd is known for not really doing drugs
Syd Barret was mr. acid trip

Youll notice that the things that seem very simple are written out of acid trips
and those really complex things are made out of emotion
(Waters)

Dude
Gilmour is not too great?
He is THE best. His solos are what real solos sound like
Gilmour is like the solo king, and btw, "He plays a Mean Guitar".

Last time there was a vote, Gilmour was leading in front of Clapton Hendrix Page and Beck, but Hendrix came on top a bit in front of Gilmour becaues of all the noobs who voted for Hendrix.

-------
I was looking through my parents old vinyls
I found some amazing stuff
(back in black, frampton comes alive, beatles stuff, led zeppelin 4)
I found dark side, and i was all smiles when I found The Wall.
I don't remember seeing Wish you were here or Animals though, but there was a box of vinyls that was stolen, maybe they were in there?
