Paiste Signature 14" Sound Edges for your hihats
Winner! |
How do the wuhan 18" chinas sound?
|
wuhans are hand hammered so each one will sound different, it could be a miracle, or it could be trash
i love my 18", i just ordered a 12", hoping to get lucky again:thumb: plus if you don't like them you can just do stuff to it |
But is it bright, or trashy?
|
trashy
Hello cymbal wizards, I'm about to start looking into new cymbals for my setup. I'm looking for:
Hi-hats with good definition and a clear pedal sound Ride with a very defined bell, think Peart's ride bell sound from Counterparts, and not much wash/sustain/overtones on the bow 2 crashes, I like them somewhat on the glassy side, but still cutting enough for high-volume situations. And a splash. I've played two splashes in my life: I loved an Istanbul splash (but can't remember the line, it was about 6 months ago and the name was unreadable) and I've also played an AAX Metal splash, which I despised on the grounds that it wasn't splashy enough for me. Possibly a china; I've only played one china, a Meinl classics 16" I think it was, which I quite liked. Recommendations? I don't mind saving up, I only have about £200 at the moment. So I guess I'll need to. Thanks, Sam ~~
13" New beats or maybe Quick beats. If you like pearts ride why not a Paragon? Failing that perhaps an 20" Avedis Rock Ride, 20" Avedis Ping Ride or maybe a 22" Sabian HH Rock Ride. 2 glassy crashes with enough volume? 18" A Custom and a 19" Sabian Vault? I find Stagg DH splashes to be wonderful. And very cheap. Chinas, it you're going for dark and trashy then maybe a 20" HHX Thin? Or a 18" Oriental China Trash. On the opposite end of the scale, maybe a 19" AAXTreme? Or a Sabian Devastation chinese? |
Thanks man, I've added those to the cymbals I'm going to hunt and test.
I'm going to be buying one cymbal at a time probably (except the hi-hats, I will probably buy a matched pair). My kit will almost certainly look strange with all the different brands I may buy from, but if it sounds just how I want it to... All good. ~~ |
I'd suggest:
13" AA Fusions; ultra-bright and glassy 20" Vault Ride 17" and 19" A Custom Medium-Thin Crashes 19" AAX Extreeme Chinese |
hello.
I'm looking for a Zildjian loud and kind of dark crash. Preferably for playing rock and metal. around 180 - 250 dollars. Thanks for any help |
well, the K Custom Hybrid crashes are a bit on the expensive side. But they are dark and cutting, go to Akira Jimbo's site on drummerworld and listen to some of his playing, see if it's what you like. a lot of people prefer dark for jazz, so idk how much luck you'll get. I also suggest the Oriental Crash of Doom, that thing is loud as hell and dark as well. Good luck
EDIT: I totally did not mean to make that ryhme, |
Hey,
Im after a new ride. I lookin for a versitile ride as I play in a metal band but im also starting to practice alot of jazz, afrocuban and funk, so a ride that can stay controlled when hit hard but sound good also in lighter situations. I would like it to have some wash, good stick definition and a cutting bell. Thanks |
Try an AA Raw Bell Dry Ride.

Hey guys my first post here. I'm after some Zildjian Avedis cymbals. I play in a indie/rock/pop band with one guitar and bass, we play small-medium bars and pubs etc.
i've been trying to decide between 16" and 18" crashes, couldn't decide so thought i'll go for 17"s :D this is my planned set up so far: Avedis 17" thin crash Avedis 17" medium crash Avedis 20" rock ride, all traditional finish I already have 14" quick beat hats. I want the crashes to be really versatile, they need to be sensitive but also loud enough to go unmic'd at a gig. Does anyone think these ones could be a bad choice? I might go for the ping ride instead of the rock ride. which one has the most wash? and which one has the best crash qualities? (http://www.myspace.com/thebandgoon is my band page if you'd like to hear our music. it's not me drumming in the songs btw) |
Ping ride has more wash. I have the 22" and I absolutly love it.
|
Well, the Avedis are pretty good, I'd suggest the A custom fast crashes, but that's IMO. I'm not sure the Avedis will be as loud as you want, but I know that the A customs or A custom fast crashes should be loud enough.
|
If you will be playing unmic'd I would say take the medium crash and then add an 18" medium weight. A Customs are versatile and loud without being obnoxious so that might something worth trying.
|
tbh...im not a fan of medium crashes.
|
Me neither. I wont go heavier than medium thin.
|
I love my two 18" Medium crashes. Great for that nice, full rock sound.
Maybe not so much for Mr. Punk here. |

yeah, ones a Sabian AA, another is a Paiste 2002 classic (not the 2002 medium, as that's actually a medium-heavy weight)
|
Y'reffering to me froggy boy?
|
Don't take ti the wrong way. I just said for your fast punk music you would like to have thinner cymbals.
|
it also requires hats that sound better than New Beats
|
I don't know if this has already been answered, if so will some1 catch me up? i need a fast crash that is very bright and loud but will die quickly so i can hit it over and over again and get the same sound.
|
Try a smaller A Custom fast crash, they should fit the bill.
|
Hello, i'm looking for a ride sizes 20" - 21" will go higher if its the sound i'm looking for. I'm looking for something with the same stick def and loudness as an A Custom Medium 21" Ride and the deepness and cutting bell of an K 20" Ride
Thanks! |
K hybrid anyone?
