How many people's parents are fans of Pink Floyd?

bennyl 05-12-2005 09:53 PM
Yeah its really good. Disk One is Obscured by Clouds (bout 5 min) When You're In (9+min) Set The Controls For The Heart of the Sun (11min+) Careful With That Axe Eugene (16+min) Echoes, best version I've ever heard )23+ min). Disk Two is all of Dark Side of the Moon and One of These Days.

The only problem is the bass over powers some of the instruments, but if you just turn the bass down on whatever you listening to it on it is no problem at all.
can you upload it? or can you not get it onto your computer?

My parents don't like them, they're too "out there" for them.

I watched The Wall tonight, it was pretty good.

Comfortably Numb played live at Earl's Court in 1994. :)

I was one of the lucky people who got it in the guitar forum earlier, and it's really good quality...be warned though, this is a big file. About 90 MB or something, so if you're on 56k, then I'd stay away.
Thanks so much I cant wait to see it.

My mom loves PF, but my dad isn't too big of fan. He calls them "drawn out".

lunch998 05-13-2005 03:37 PM

My Dad likes their first three albums but doesn't care for them much after that.

Distant Echoes 05-13-2005 03:46 PM

My parents like em somewhat. They admitted to hating them in the 70s, since when bands like the stones, Zep, Deep Purple, etc. were whipping out such new unheard of hard rock albums, Floyd was just sort of laid back...a bit too boring for that generation. Thats why most the parents i talk to are liking floyd now more then ever.

Im downloading the Comfortably numb thing now :)

slowhand 05-13-2005 06:22 PM
ok, so i have the most well known PF cd's (DSOTM, WYWH, and the Wall) and I was wondering what you guys suggest for my next floyd purchase. I really love all these cd's (WYWH being my fav.) and want to hear some more. Any preference would be great :thumb:
I would also recommend you to buy Live at Pompeii. It's a DVD of Pink Floyd playing some of their best pre-DSOTM material, but it's great. You get a whole new perspective of why Pink Floyd is so great... and that's without the light show!

Rusher28 05-13-2005 07:37 PM

Echoes

Come on guys, the most haunting piece of work by Pink Floyd (excluding lyrics) would have to be the 5 minute breakdown in the middle of the song Echoes on the Meddle CD. I mean, christ, Gilmour makes his guitar sound like wolves howling to each other! Other than that, Lyrically, the most haunting or creepy song is , uh, Goodbye blue sky from the wall.

(p.s. ntice how i capitalized "Gilmour", and not "christ")

Sorry if i offended anyone

Distant Echoes 05-13-2005 07:38 PM

Im listening to Atom Heart Mother for the first time now :)

I think Im gonna get Ummagumma online. I have never seen that in a store, ever.

I was lucky enought to find a copy of it at Spec's. Live album's the best.

WheepingGuitar39 05-13-2005 08:36 PM

My dad loves Pink Floyd. It's his fault I'm addicted to PF. I remember he used to make me listen to his brand new Pulse album with the little flashing light all the time. My dad was front row center at the 94 PF show in Montreal.
My uncle (his brother) was one of the security guards and personally met and talked with David Gilmour!! (Gilmour spoke in french right away) What a classy guy.
I wish I was old enough to have been there.

My father promised me after the concert that if ever they came back, he'd take me.
I'm still waiting.

BigTrav415 05-13-2005 09:54 PM

The first time I ever listened to an actual album (besides a couple of indivuidual songs) was when I found my dad's DSotM vinyl amongst his record collection (I swear that every college student during that time had a copy), and me and him played it that day on his Yamaha record player with surround sound. It was awesome. He told me some stuff, but he's definitely not nearly as much a fan as I am now. I remember him saying that he never listened to WYWH, and that he had heard it wasn't as good as DSotM. I couldn't disagree more :thumb:

BigTrav415 05-13-2005 09:58 PM

BTW, at my school dance tonight, we had one of my friends controlling the sound system/music, and I brought WYWH and got him to play it for the finale. No one had every heard it but me and him I'm sure, but evryone was dancing to it, so I guess it worked out pretty good.
(I would have played Comfortably Numb, but I decided that it would go over their heads, and one poor bastard played a song no one had heard before and this bitch came over, pulled out the CD, and snapped it in half. As you can see, I was a bit squeamish, but I decided WYWH was traditional enough)

blue3 05-14-2005 12:10 AM

I always request classic rock songs in school dances and they actually played some of my requests.. Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin and some GNR songs.. most of the crowd hated it, but oh well

Yeah, that has happened to me and my group of mates, at formals, dances and parties we put on some of our classic rock music and everyone just looks confused and frowns upon it, I played Run Like Hell by Pink Floyd and recieved a heap of dirty looks, It doesn't dampen my spirits, just makes me want to play more.

skynyrd73 05-14-2005 11:43 AM

Yeah man, thats the way to be, they dont wanna except how great classic rock is, its theyre loss, i love being the odd-man out when it comes to music, i hate being normal, what realy gets me thogh is for example, i was at a dance a few years back and they played that puf daddy song, where he used Kashmire-Led Zeppelin, and they all were doing theyre little two step jig thing, so i asked to play the realy kashmire, they woulnt do it at first, said people would complain, but then this one guy said yeah put it on (rock fan posing as a hipp hopper), and the crowd hated it, and were saying they stole in from puf daddy, until i got on the mic., and explained that zeppelin was around 30 years before this crap, and they all just shut up right then and there, great feeling...that night i introduced maybe 10 out of 200 to classic rock, but thats good enough for me...

That is amazing. Please reunite Pink Floyd- I know it will never happen, but dreaming can't hurt.

I wish I was old enough to have seen that.

skynyrd73 05-14-2005 02:54 PM

Dude, Roger has been talking about a reunion tour, and when the band sold of some of theyre equiptment, they kept most of it the last moment, and that stuff is worth alot of cash. Roger sais he wants to get back one more time and rake in the cash cause his bank account is drying up and he is getting older.

No, I seriously doubt that that is what he said.

Grant 05-14-2005 03:30 PM

Has anyone hear ever heard the Waters record, "Amused to Death"?. It's quite a record, some of Roger's best lyrics and Jeff Beck on guitar!

Nah man I just heard a quote from him saying he is friends with Nick again, but he said the other members and him don't have anything in common. He IS talking about a new solo album. Dave has said he really doesn't want to do any tour of any kind any more. And anybody who has a record that stays on the charts for 591 consecutive weeks is set for life.

robo2448 05-14-2005 07:49 PM

I think the rumors of a reunion are mostly financial ploy, but I still hold out hope.
