I have two cats and they suck. They were both feral (i.e. born and caught from the wild) and so one of them has resisted domestication to the point where he has not let a single member of my family touch him in the year we've owned him. The other lets you pet him sometimes but most of the time he runs away too.

The only cool thing about them is that they look like creamsicles, so we named them Ben and Jerry.

I'm a dog lover though. The dog we had before was a border-collie and really smart and kind. His name was Tucker. Unfortunately he got run over about two summers ago. :( That was a really sad time.
so we sat down to Thankgsiving dinner at around 4. We just finished.
I ate Thanksgiving dinner around 1:30. My family's weird.

Shadows 11-24-2005 09:01 PM

We were suppsoed to eat at 1:00, but I slept in a while longer then I expected so we were delayed until 2:30.

We started eating at about 4:30.

There was a case in Australia, down south, about 3 months ago, where the legend of gigantic feral cats was proved true, supposedly.

You see, so many cats have escaped since we were first colonised that many people claim mysterious kills (similar to the way a panther or other big cat kills) was due to these feral cats, which have slowly grown larger in this enviroment.

Anyways, this bloke was hunting pigs with a shotgun, and he ran across this huge shadow that suddenly leapt at him. He shot it, and then checked to see what it was.

Turns out he shot a black cat, with the appearance of a tabby, and the size of a great dane. They're doing DNA tests and the like, to see if it is a fake.

Amazing if it isn't though.

Shadows 11-24-2005 09:06 PM

Sounds amazing either way.

I can't believe you banned me.

Sounds rather like the New York City urban legends of giant sewer rats (which are true) and the ones about the pet alligators that got flushed down the toilet when they got too big and have grown to enormous proportions in the sewer (which aren't really true but which have spawned many a bad movie).

If THIS is true, though, then that is indeed quite neat.

Heh. Another interesting fact. There is more people living in the City of New York than reside in all of Australia.

However, the government of Australia has more money.

New York is still great. If a little dirty.

The thing I hate is the fact that I was born there, and lived there for the first years of my childhood, and yet retain none of the mythical knowledge of the city's idiosyncracies or the accent that are requirements for being a bonafide New Yorker.

Bah, move to Australia. There's only 2 accents, and it's clean air, bright skies and fresh greenery all year around.

I think New Jersey accents are cool. I don't think Californian's really have an accent aside from the stereotypical "Bra, like whats up dude?" accent, which none of us have. (Except for the stoner/surfers)

Believe me, it's top on my list of preferred vacations-to-places-I've-never-been.

I'm unsure if I would want to live there though. What's it like in terms of social culture? Any different customs from America, or things like that?

There's nothing to Ohio either, except we are consistently undecided about who we want for president, yet still managed to churn out more then any other state.

Given my disinterest of politics, I'd say I'm pretty unexcited about my home.

Cain 11-24-2005 09:28 PM

Connecticut is the same way. It's just filled with arrogant but oblivious white people. Massachusets has the upper cultural hand because while they are as wealthy and arrogant as us they are more active in politics and art. We just blow all our money and good schools on getting weed from Hartford.

Thank God I'm going to college in New York, instead of UConn like the rest of the dorks.

It'd be a great place to live. Of all the American students that are studying with me at my Uni, only one wouldn't like to live here.

Social culture is a lot more relaxed here, I think. From what I understand, PC isn't the law to end all laws here. Everyone's a lot easier going I think.

Different slang words of course. Rhyming slang is the hardest to pick up, and then you have all the stereotypical sayings.

Hmmm... Customs are a bit iffy. The designation of Australia as "the land of the free", "the lucky country", etc means that we have a lot of different people creating a hodgepodge society. I suppose being friendly is the key. I don't think you could get away with the usual "New Yorker" push and shove through the streets, without getting a fist to the face.

Other than that, we are very Americanised now, unfortunately, but there is still a lot of European and Asian heritage.

And of course, nothing beats sitting on the verandah, with a cool breeze and a beer in the hand, spinning yarns.

And as Dave said, Melbourne has more Greeks than any city outside of Athens. Yes, that's right. More Greeks than Thessaloniki.

Sounds like some good stuff. :thumb: I'd love to see it someday.

BTW, has the Great Barrier Reef disappeared yet? A childhood dream of mine is to snorkel on the reef but I hear it's in dire straits.

I heard Dire Straits was looking for new members, but I didn't know they'd hired on the GBR...

But seriously, the Great Barrier Reef (on my doorstep) is very much still alive. It's more the future of it that everyone is worried about. It takes a very long time to get coral the size of some of the GBR gardens. So, we have tourists breaking off pieces, either by accident or on purpose, and that means that the Reef is very slowly diminishing. But people are preserving it, so all we can do is let the thing repair itself.

There was a big kahfuffle about the closure of certain fish breeding ground to commercial fisherman this year, as I recall.

I've lived there too, and as far as a delightful city goes Chicago certainly has New York beat.

I just love the amalgamation of culture in New York.

Well, I'm glad it's still there. I promise not to break off any coral pieces. :)

You chaps have also got that twelve-armed sea star with the spines that friggin' destroy all the coral in their paths. I'm sure they don't help when combined with tourist impact.

So me and my girl just had a fight...this sucks. Now I'm talkin' to her on the phone and it's been nothin' but like silence for the past 10 minutes or so...with an awkward "yeah" in between...

This really sucks.
