No way anything could be as aweful as Radiohead rapping. Nothing.
That's what I mean......the Folk fans were feeling that. Rock was the new big thing back then and needless to say they hated it and when Dylan was "conforming" to this it would bring out the same reaction as if Radiohead started rapping. Radiohead fans how would you feel if they stated playing rap? My assumption is Radiohead fans do not like rap. I thought the 1st hour was a little boring too. :-/ ASSHOLES!!!!! (<-----wtf  ) |
I thought the first hour last night was alittle boring. They showed too many of those old folk acts and didn't focus enough on Dylan.
Ya I was kind of dissapointed in the way the whole thing was put together to be honest. |
Yeah, it really felt more like a documentary on folk music in general for the part I saw, I didn't see the whole thing thought. They could have cut the thing sdown to one night if they had taken out a few of the random bands they just flipped to randomly it seemd like. But Desolation Row... wow.
|
I didn't see anyone on that documentary that I didn't like...
I was actually just cooking supper and I realized I referred to Ballad of a Thin Man as Mr. Jones in my last post.....I feel like a noob. I just came back to clear up that little mix-up. Did I tell you guys about my cat? My friend and I were walking my dog along these traintracks that lead out of the city. After about an hour and some of walking we came across a giant collection of bushes and trees, and someone had dumped a huge pile of garbage. Well anyways, there were two kitty's living in it, very scraggly and hungry looking. I caught the one, but the other one ran and hid and we couldn't get it. I named him Dylan. He's cool, he's orange and approximately 3 months old. He knew how to use the litterbox, so we are assuming he was dumped there. He really likes to eat. He accidently intercepted a hit of weed I was blowing out last night during that Dylan documentary....I was worried, but it didn't seem to affect him in a bad way. He just looked around and stared at my light for several minutes, then went to sleep. I was worried he might like pass out or die or something, but he's fine. It sure calmed him down, so I'm thinking it could be the answer to his rowdyness. Is that morally wrong? |

Desolation Row was fucking amazing. I mean, I couldn't imagine a song could be that good. I'm looking forward to seeing more of The Band. I'm most interested in seeing Dylan and The Band and learning more about their relationship, especially since there's basically no mention of them in Chronicles. It would be cool if they talked about his relationship with The Beatles. Edit- I noticed your mistake Thickasabrick, but I didn't point it out 'cause I know you're one of the biggest Dylan fans on here. That's a cool story about your cat. Good thing it's alright. |
When is the Dylan movie suppoused to come out?

I'm pretty sure it came out last Tuesday. I'll buy it eventually, but now they're showing it free, so why rush to buy it? |

I didn't even know they were showing it for free :-/ |

I meant that it's on PBS when I said showing it for free. Everyone check their inboxes. I just sent out a must-have album. |
The only folk artist they showed that I really didn't like was that one old guy someone mentioned, who kept singing unnecessarily high.

I always love how awkward Dylan looked trying to sing over his harmonica rack, and how he reached around his acoustic, instead of putting his arm like over it (does that make sense?) |
This Dylan documentery reminds me I need to get alot more Folk. :-/
I have this cousin who doesn't see the brilliance of Dylan. I don't get it I have an endless amount of respect for his musical opinion but saying he doesn't get what's so great about songs like "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Blowin' in the Wind" and saying Folk is boring.....I really don't get him to tell you the truth. Any songs I can play to make him reverse his opinion? Songs that'd make anyone who appreciates music enjoy? I could suggest some myself but I enjoy hearing you guys' suggestions. :) |

At my school, only one other person besides me worships him, and most people don't see what's great about him. Suggestions: Like A Rolling Stone The Times They Are A-Changin' Hurricane Positively Fourth Street (all-time Dylan fave) Tangled Up in Blue All Along the Watchtower If Not For You Chimes of Freedom Gates of Eden It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) Subterranean Homesick Blues Desolation Row It Takes A Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry Just Like A Woman Visions of Johanna Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands That should get them to appreciate him more. Anyone download Orbison's Greatest Hits? |
I'm gonna learn The Times They Are A-Changin' in guitar.
np: Television - Marquee Moon |

Oh man  that guy was fucking weird   I had to bite my lip to stop from laughing. |
I've listened to most of my Dylan lately. It's been ages since I played Highway 61 Revisited or Blonde on Blonde, and it's good to refresh your mind of old songs.
I turned on the Dylanmentary yesterday, but the part I saw was about Woody Guthrie and Joan Baez, so I lost interest pretty fast. Maybe I'll watch some of it tonight. |
Positively Fourth Street (all-time Dylan fave)
Pardon my ignorance but what album is that song on? I've always woundered.
I find that a lot of people are unwilling to give Dylan a chance. His mind isn't exactly extremly open but if it weren't for him I wouldn't even be typing this post so I'd give him credit for one thing that lead to many things. /hopes that made some sense |

It's only on compilations. I could upload it if you want. To Splatoutplath- Yes, Mean Women Blues is a great song. It's on the cd I sent out. My cd is called In Dreams: The Best of Roy Orbison. Is that what you have? |
No, that's not the one I have, but it's pretty much the same tracklist.
Orbison is criminally overlooked though. Possibly the best singer ever, and I've never seen any of his albums in stores. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and many, many, other artists list him as the greatest singer ever. I'm lucky that my parents had his cds, or I wouldn't have been able to get them. My parents have A Black and White Night which is the only live cd of his ever released. It's awesome. I think the performance is from right before he died too :( |

My parents saw him a few weeks before he died. That would have been so cool. |

That would be awesome. I would pay a ton of money to see Roy if he was still alive. The amazing thing is that his voice never aged. His last album, Mystery Girl, his work with the Wilburys, and the live album I have were all released right before he died, and his voice is as good if not better than it was when he was much younger. Edit- I wonder if my parents ever saw him. My dad is a huge Roy Orbison fan, and I think my mom is too. I told this story in my review of the Traveling Wilburys cd, but when I was a baby, the only way my parents could get me to stop crying was drive me around playing either the Traveling Wilburys cd or a Roy Orbison cd. Wierd. Edit 2- Bob Dylan movie just resumed :D That opening sing was hilarious. I like him saying "These are all protest songs, come on" to the booing audience. |
^ its even funnier at the very beginning when hes like "i want a dog who will return my cigerate, sell for commison, and clean my burd cage""(or something like that) and then he completely ****s it up an starts laughing

That's what I was talking about :thumb: I decided to mention that quote about "protest songs" because that was pretty funny too. |
ooohhh okay,i thought you meant just the protest songs, cuz that was funny too
|
That should get them to appreciate him more. Anyone download Orbison's Greatest Hits?
I did. It's very good, thanks. As for recommending songs, I just think some people don't like some bands. I have friends who have absolutely amazing music taste, except they don't like Pink Floyd. It's strange, but it happens. For instance, I can't comprehend anyone not liking jazz, but John Lennon (who I have infinite respect for) hated it. If your cousing doesn't like Dylan, and he's given him a shot, you might just want to let it go at that. |
Anyone feel like making me like the new Neil Young album? :(((
Everyone check their inboxes. I just sent out a must-have album.
Next time you send an album out, just write a little paragraph about the artist and album to give people a little insight. I know other Mailing lists have big write-ups with the emails and I don't want that, just a few sentences. I really want to hear this album though. |

I really want to hear this album though.
I described it in the e-mail. I didn't send it out to the metalheads, should I? I figured that since YSI only allows 25 downloads there wasn't any point in sending it out to the metalheads because most wouldn't be able to listen to it. Bob Dylan is amazing. That movie was so incredibly awesome. I'm going to go on a Dylan listening marathon for a while. I'm definitely buying that DVD too. |
Hmmm...it's done now, and it was very good, but they seemed to just ditch all the viewers and didn't even talk about the latter half of his career.
