i love:
I dont think there will ever be a band as good as the beatles because they had three songwriters who could have all easily been Bigger than anything before but lucky for them they were all in the same band. i dont think as much talent could be packed into one band nowadays. Notice on the later albums they all started to explore in thier own directions but they still made **** good songs.
Not only that, but they each had their unique individual songwriting styles. I can pick a Harrison over a Lennon/McCartney and even Lennon and McCartney although went off in divergant directions, had a unique shared style. I think that McCartney's solo writing style is more beatle-esque than Harrison or Lennon's. But now we're getting off topic.

Yeah, I love the classic rock too. There are plenty of artists that I am still yet to get in to, such as The Who and The Doors.

My favourites are pretty much Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Dire Straits, though I'm not entirely sure how classic rock one could call the Straits.

They're considered classic rock, we were just discussing them the other day.

Welcome to the thread, it seems we have very similar tastes in music

magicbus 09-26-2005 08:58 PM

That was very cool. Did you guys notice the young members of The Band?

Krabsworth 09-26-2005 09:04 PM

Yeah, magicbus. I thought tonight they would show childhood to late 60's. Than tomorrow night show the latter of his career.

That was great I thought the ending was the best though. Man! That Folk fest must've been a blast to go to! The best part was when Howlin' Wolf got all the black people dancing....he's the only Blues singer that could rock the house like that.....oh and Bob was good too. :)

I really liked the "Festival" footage at the end too. That was my favorite part.

magicbus 09-26-2005 10:38 PM

Buddy Guy just played a song off his new album on Jay Leno. It sounded pretty good, hopefully I'll be able to pick it up this weekend.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-26-2005 11:22 PM

Comes out tomorrow. :)

Leper 09-26-2005 11:34 PM

I missed that Bob Dylan special!! :upset: I was helping my dad with some work, then suddenly I was like "Oh crap, what time is it??" and it was too late. Did they say they'd be replaying it anytime soon?

magicbus 09-26-2005 11:39 PM
Comes out tomorrow. :)
Yea but I only have 10 bucks right now, and I might need gas. So I'll use my work money when I get some on Friday.

There's going to be another half of that Dylan special tomorrow at the same time, but I'm not sure if/when they're going to be playing the first half again.

Leper 09-26-2005 11:47 PM

Hopefully they'll release it on DVD or something, I heard way too many good things about that documentary to not see it.
I'd never seen how people really reacted so badly to him going electric though...in the first half-hour when they showed people leaving his gigs responding that negatively, it was quite surprising.
Well think about it....Dylan gained his fame off playing pure and plain Folk songs so his fanbase would obviously be mainly fans of easy listining acoustic Folk music (hence not Rock fans). It's not suprising they acted the way they did; they thought he was selling out.

NP: Talking World War III Blues - Bob Dylan

PinkFreud 09-27-2005 11:15 AM

you havent? i'll resend it to you.

PinkFreud 09-27-2005 11:24 AM

awesome, enjoy it.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-27-2005 01:06 PM
Yeah, but we're not talking about normal levels of bad reaction here...using a modern example that just came to mind, the Chili Peppers's sound changed loads between Californication and By The Way. A lot of fans of their earlier stuff hated By The Way, but they definitely didn't get the reaction that the fans were giving Dylan there. It was completely nuts. Watching him do Desolation Row live sent shivers up my spine though.
A member from the crowd yells "Judus!!!!" Dylan looks up now pissed and says "I don't believe you.....you're a liar!" He turned around to the band and says "PLAY ****ING LOUD!!" and they roar into "Like A Rolling Stone" with Dylan singing at the top of his lungs.

Ahh...the memories. Wait til' tomorrow you'll probablly get to see his 1965 Folk fest set when he gets booed off the stage which should be fun.

It'd be like if Radiohead got up on stage and started Raping. Imagine the reaction that'd get and it'd draw a picture of where the Folkies were coming from.

......or Folkies are just ***holes. :p

I just tries to type "***holes" and it got changed to spatulas.

thickasabrick 09-27-2005 01:38 PM

I only caught the last hour or so of the Dylan movie last night, although a girl in my class overheard me talking about it, and she said she taped it so I can borrow it. I'm so excited for the second half tonight!!! It's funny how ripped Dylan always looked, and I loved the intensity of his Mr. Jones performance...where the mics are all messed up at the start. God that was great, I wish I saw all of it.

No way anything could be as aweful as Radiohead rapping. Nothing. Anyways, saw part of the documentary and it was great. Some people I know in school watched it, too, and they all loved it. *Puts on Hurricane*

Broken Arrow 09-27-2005 01:47 PM

Man, that was sweet last night. Altough I didnt do alot of my homework so, today I have even more work but there's the other half. :(

robo2448 09-27-2005 02:31 PM

Dylan is amazing. That was awesome last night. The best part was right after Ballad of a Thin Man (awesome performance) btw, when he rushes into the car and says, "The booing, I can't stand it. How do they buy the tickets so fast?" or something like that. I think it will be even better tonight.

DeusExMachina 09-27-2005 02:43 PM

I didn't see the Dylan vid, but I taped it. I'm going to watch it as soon as I get a chance.

Assholes.

Krabsworth 09-27-2005 02:51 PM

I thought alot of those folk singers they showed were annoying. Like that old guy strumming a lap guitar while singing really high. I can't wait to watch the one tonight.

Lunch 09-27-2005 02:54 PM

I thought the first hour last night was alittle boring. They showed too many of those old folk acts and didn't focus enough on Dylan.

magicbus 09-27-2005 03:00 PM
I thought alot of those folk singers they showed were annoying. Like that old guy strumming a lap guitar while singing really high. I can't wait to watch the one tonight.
 I hated that part. Where he was like strumming the same chord over and over and singing like a chick. I really liked the part at the end where they showed a lot of footage of him playing. And that festival too.

Today's should be awesome.

robo2448 09-27-2005 03:12 PM

Woody Guthrie and Johnny Cash = Cool

Some of Dylan's other folk influences = not cool. I loved the first hour, but that one guy, I think it was Pete Seegar, but not sure, was really annoying.
