How is it tuned?
They've had a lefty one come through there a few times, but I didn't see that one in there.

Akira 10-28-2006 10:20 PM

I don't think I've seen one there before. They also had a used Line 6 Variax, which would have been awesome if it worked right. For some reason they only had like two sixers in the whole store though.
I feel like such a bad bassist because I know I am going to spend like all my time in the high strings and neglect the low stuff.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:22 PM

Don't see yourself as a bassist then.
Musician :p

I'm excited for my 6 to get here.

That's a pretty lucky score, even if I had the chance, I don't think i'd buy a 7+.

Maybe that will change once I get used to my 6.

I actually don't consider myself a bassist at all really. I mean I like to play bass lines, but I like to play melodies too. I play bass because I like the feel, and really the timbre too, but I don't subscribe to the common idea of a bassist's role.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:28 PM

Band wise I do.

I do my roots, I do my lines. Whatever creativly fits.

When I'm at home, I take more of a experimental side.
Effects, weird riffs, stuff from the heart really.

Yeah. In a band I play like a more typical bassist, just because that is what works.

I can't over how weird my four feels. I pick it up and the neck looks like an inch wide. It's creepy.

EADGCFB#?

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:31 PM

I bet the Conklin neck is almost 2.5 times the size?

Akira 10-28-2006 10:33 PM
EADGCFB#?
I might try it sometime.

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:33 PM

If I had that I'd tune it CFBbEbAbDbGb with the C being between the normal low B and the E.

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:36 PM

Or DADF#BEA. But that would be for a 7 string acoustic guitar...

Akira 10-28-2006 10:36 PM
I bet the Conklin neck is almost 2.5 times the size?
My ruler says the OLP is 1.5" at the nut and the Conklin is 2.5" at the nut. I might just be tired and measuring stupid.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:37 PM

An extra inch wider?

How does it feel in your hand?
Do you find it's easy to get accostomed to?

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:37 PM

Sounds right on the OLP, probably spot on or within a few 16ths of an inch.

Dunno the measurements on the GT, but that's about right.

Akira 10-28-2006 10:38 PM

I will probably keep it standard. I considered before I found this getting a six tuned tenor, but the problem with that is I would probably end of missing the B even though I wouldn't use it a ton.

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:40 PM

Yeah, that's how I am... I'd barely ever use a B if I had one. A C on the other hand....

But I've been reduced to a guitar player mostly now that I've got my fine lady around. Not to mention that the human lady in my life takes up some time too...

It's pretty massive. I definitely won't have to worry about my hand grabbing the neck like a baseball bat.

That said, I have very long fingers, so it's not bad. I can do a 1-5 stretch on the low B. It's going to take some time for my wrist to adjust though.

I can't play guitar. I've tried, but it just is totally unappealing to me. The strings are too small and close together. Plus I like the timbre of bass better.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:44 PM

Guitar is unappealing to me as well. The higher frequecies bug me.

All i can do is power chords

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:44 PM

I don't like playing bass out of context. I am not a solo bass player.

Plus it's hard to sing while playing bass.... it's so much easier on guitar.

And fingerstyle is a lot more fun because there's so much more clarity.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:45 PM

Plus I hate small necks. Everytime I pick up a 6 string, I feel so natural behind it.

Even with my smallish hands. It just feels right.

I love playing bass out of context, but I love band work too.

Singing is a non issue for me because I can't hold a pitch to save my life.

I feel pretty comfortable on most basses, but fives are weird for some reason.

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:47 PM

My guitar has a thicker neck than my bass does. Wider too.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:48 PM

I've been playing a 5 for the past year and a half. Ibanez sr505.

So I'm used to it.

What do you play?

PaulSimonon 10-28-2006 10:49 PM

A Cort Artisan B4 fretless and a Taylor Big Baby acoustic.

The Taylor has a pretty thin neck, but it's a bit wide. Nice for fingerstyle.

The Cort has a really thin neck of normal width.

One Groovin Clown 10-28-2006 10:52 PM

What are your rigs?

Theres a picture of mine in this thread somewhere.

I give up on cinema. They are making a sequel to Hostel. The original was, in my opinion, one of the worst movies ever made. Period. It does not need a sequel.
