I would like to soundproof a room in my house. Is it true that covering the wall in egg cartons will make the room soundproof?

In a way. They use eggbox shaped foam to keep sound from echoing in recording studios. If you have paper-thin walls, it'll keep your moans of masturbatory pleasure from echoing around the house more than a few times. So that won't work very well, though I don't know what will, I am just kinda pissing on your bonfire, sorry.

I'm in the process of making a shirt. For something new, I want to use a glue stick to glue my stencil to the shirt instead of just taping the outside. Would it damage my shirt at all?

It may leave a stain. Why glue when you have perfectly good duct tape?

Iron Bug 01-06-2006 04:49 PM

I dont think glue comes out very easily. Safety pin it, the holes dont really show.

That's how I do it. Just put a good amount on, but try not to get a bunch of big clumps, then drop a big book on it to keep it all down. Works great, and if there's any glue still on there, it'll wash off.

Since it's worked out for you I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Ever tried to get duct tape residue off a shirt?

I remember when Johnny Ramone died, I wore my Ramones shirt with a duct tape strip on it reading "RIP Johnny" and at the end of the day I took it off, and there was this huge strip of residue left. I think it was mainly because I had a bad roll of duct tape, but you never know when that **** is going to stay. Was a bitch getting it out with Goo Gone and repeated washings.

coheneran 01-06-2006 05:06 PM

Fine, masking tape.

Glue stick has never failed me.

I was bored yesterday and made a minor threat patch. I don't know if this is exactly how I want it to be just yet. Should I ad more detail? Can you recognize it as what it's supposed to be? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/minorthreat.jpg

Here was my practice as a patch. Not sure if I'll actually take the effort to make it a patch.

Iron Bug 01-06-2006 05:09 PM

Its the Minor Threat cover, it looks great.

coheneran 01-06-2006 05:09 PM

It's good. If you know what it is, you see it straight away, but at first casual glance can't make it out. Add detail to the surrounding so you can see the thing in the middle is a dude. :thumb:

Brain Toad 01-06-2006 05:12 PM

I haven't done anything DIY in a long time. I gave up after I ran out of room on my jacket and vest and the fact I suck at doing anything else.

Nerdcore753 01-06-2006 05:14 PM

I was DIY as a 7 year old when I made paper action figures.

I typically stick my stencils to the fabri with a spray adhesive. Spray it, let it dry just a bit, then ley it down and press around the edges. Works excellently and leaves no residue.

The thing is, it's hard to add more detail on him, because there's no red on him, but what I cut out is red.

does that help at all?

Yeah. What else you could do is a couple of stripes up the side of the wall, though only if you want complete noobs to be able to see what it is.

It is, but it's one that's messed up for many many reasons. I have a good one done, though.

asdf 01-07-2006 01:09 PM

^ here's the mr. bungle patch I made that actually worked:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/P1010107.jpg
I was DIY as a 7 year old when I made paper action figures.
Yeah, back when I was a kid I made figutes out of tin foil. I also used to take broken toys and glue them together to make art sculptures.

My newest patch design:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/kaizersorchestra.jpg

So I'm very excited right now. I've recently been thinking about how I wish I had some place where I could paint all my stencils on to. I'd do it in my room, but my walls are allready art in there (red with splatter paint... I Don't want to paint over that). I was telling my dad about that, and he said that I could go ahead and do that to the unfinished walls in the basement. All he has to do is fill in where the nails are, and I can start painting.I'd never do real graffiti (I've gotten in trouble for it, but have never done it. Go figure), but I want to spray paint my stencils. This would be perfect.

So I went to go cut out a stencil with my X-Acto knife and it was gone. I spent so long looking for it and I still can't find it. I'm very angry about this. End of story.
