I hear Tool on the radio all the time.

I voted for Mr. Jones :thumb:
I actually got into Tool after hearing Schism on the radio. It was a freak chance, I guess, and a good one. I remember thinking, "Now this is a really weird, cool song." I went home and downloaded it along with Sober and loved it.
I first heard of them when I was watching MTV (back when they played some good music videos) in '99 or '00. And I saw the video for Sober. I liked the song and the video, but then I forgot the band name and the song title. I saw it again a few weeks later, and bought Undertow.

And if all I heard was Schism, I wouldn't have gotten into them. I really wasn't impressed with that song when it came out.

Edit: Actually, the problem with Schism was probably that it was overplayed. LOL, yeah, I said it.

Very nice thread. I've been a major Tool fan for almost 10 years, and like other bands that I LOVE (like Radiohead), they've only improved as they've evolved as a group. It's amazing to listen to Opiate - Lateralus: you practically feel like you're listening to a whole different band.

Well, I had never heard the song, and I liked it a lot. I still do like that song, luckily it wasn't overplayed for me.

I think another reason I might have overlooked is that I saw some guy at school wearing a Tool t-shirt, and the artwork on it really intrigued me. I forgot about them for a week or so and that's when I heard Schism on the radio and was impressed by it.

Huber 03-27-2005 10:33 PM

I agree with In Chains. When Schism became a single it was very overplayed. Now that I haven't heard it in awhile though, it's a very good listen.

It seems any person that dosent know anything about tool or know any of there songs will recite "i know the pieces fit".

Shadius 03-28-2005 07:28 AM

Over here (The UK), i'm fairly sure 99.9% of people don't know who Tool are. At my school, i've only heard one other person mention them, he's an APC fan and dosn't like/hasn't actually heard much Tool stuff.

I've never heard them on the radio or on music TV channels over here. This could be due to not listening to the radio too much and me being into Tool since 2002 onwards (Prison Sex was the only song I actually knew by them back then tho, I think a friend recommanded it while I was listening to some nu-metal crap), so maybe I wasn't aware when Tool's influence was the biggest, even so... Very obscure band over here.

Artemician 03-28-2005 09:07 AM

My first experience with Tool was hearing Schism (although I didn't realize that it was Tool at the time). I found out it was by Tool later and soon afterwards heard Sober as well.

I only really got into them after I heard Stinkfist (or "Track #1" as MTV2 so gracefully refers to it). I bought Ænima soon after and fell in love with it, then bought Lateralus off of a friend not too long after that. Undertow soon followed. Still don't have Opiate or Salival though....

I see them alot of the time on english TV MTV2 late at night you will see the occasional (sp?) parabola or schism

the2stranger 03-28-2005 10:07 AM

my first tool experience was Schism too, that song had turned many people towards a great band,

Rothmans 03-28-2005 10:10 AM

I personnaly heard stinkfist first and didnt mind it but then i heard sober and i said i would check them out i kinda didnt like them at first but i started really liking them from listens

the2stranger 03-28-2005 10:19 AM

in the place where I go out, they rarely play it.
sometimes, after a lot of begging, they play sober, but that's it.
I would really like te dance to ticks and leeches or the grudge.

and on radio, they never play Tool, so I never listen to radio, except some occasional classic rock channel

Really? I'll keep an eye out. :thumb:

I tend to watch Kerrang and Scuzz if I watch music TV, I suppose.

Rothmans 03-28-2005 10:38 AM

Kerrang is probably the worst music channel there is now its so horrible ive seen a video on scuzz before but only once scuzz is alright for some stuff but the headbangers ball on mtv2 (use to be on at 1) use to show deadly death metal bands and the occasional tool video aswell best show on

Saturday nights are awesome on mTV2 now. Tool videos, APC videos, old school black metal (man that sounded lame), and newest decent stuff. But its on from 1am till 3, so its hard to be sober/awake for it.

True. I've managed to spread the seed of Tool throughout my town slowly, but now people are switching to APC, thanks to their short attention spans.

And adding to Too on TV, I remember when Parabola was first released, MTV2 played it back to back for an hour, just repeating. Nice treat

Rothmans 03-28-2005 01:03 PM

Sleeper 03-28-2005 01:07 PM

Isnt Parobol and parobola in the same video?

Rothmans 03-28-2005 01:10 PM

Rothmans 03-28-2005 01:12 PM

Hardly anyone in my school has actually heard of them :upset:

the2stranger 03-28-2005 01:50 PM

my school is quite full of ingnorant people as far was music goes.
people may not like R&M but, they could atleast have respect.
those people mostly listen to trance

misunderstood 03-28-2005 01:59 PM

wow, how do you all know how many people listen to a certain band in your school? I mean, that would have been pretty hard for me to find out since my class alone had 936 graduates and we were the the smallest class...we still had the other three grades. Anyway, back when i was in high school there were quite a few people who listened to Tool. They weren't completely unknown and became even better known after they did a concert in town back in '02.

MyShrimpDied 03-28-2005 02:00 PM

The first time I heard Tool was when my brother who was probably 14 or 13 and me being around 11, he showe me the song Aenema, I hated it at first

I'm not sure if it was on anything limited or not but it's what they have on some of the band's t-shirts. The avatar i just found on yahoo images.

the2stranger 03-28-2005 02:17 PM

awesome.
I have one shirt of them, with green letters and one hoodie

misunderstood 03-28-2005 02:20 PM

I've also got a hoodie i bought at one of their concerts and a couple shirts but do they actually have sweaters or hoodies that they sell out at stores? I've never seen any.
