I know. :( I'm a guitarist for God's sake, cut me some slack.
I am too. And a drummer :p
They just tensed up, My old Mapex V series is mocked by the shiny new Iron Cobras under it.
My um...less nice drums... Shut up :( |
I am too. And a drummer :p
My um...less nice drums... Shut up :(
Thing is... the Iron Cobras cost half the rest of the kit. I find it difficult to keep in practice, rarely have the time to have hour long daily practices like I used to. |

I only get to practice during band because that's where the set is :( |

Cobras are expensive. Some very big names in metal use them.
I am too. And a drummer :p
I'm not the least bit drummer. :upset: I'm a one-instrument man, unless you count bass. Because face it, if you can play guitar then you can play metal bass. now I just wish I was better at guitar. :( |

Depending on the type and where you live...$250-500 I think. Check out the Drum forum, they're real helpful about that. I like being mediocre at everything. |
My cobras were about £200 but I payed nothing, it was kind of a present for good exam results last year.
the kit was bought through pure backbreaking physical labour in a pottery that I seldom talk about, one of the worst experiences of my life. I stopped practicing regularly when I realised I could sing alot better than I could drum My practice sessions go: Warmup Black sabbath Hangar 18 Another life Hallowed be thy name Enter sandman No time to cry For whom the bell tolls sentenced to burn Iron maiden Paranoid. That's most of the songs I can actually play on the drums without tabulature. |

I sing like crap, as does everyone in my band...wanna come sing for us? :p Interesting, I've always been a fan of just throwing on some random music on my iPod, and playing along, but no worrying about being that right bout it. Just jam along.
Theoretically I play bass. I'm sure I could, I just need to get myself a bass. If so that's good, it's borderline intermediate level drumming. You seem to be doing fine though, it took me almost three months to nail Punk drumming. |

I try to practice more but sometimes i dont feel like practice and i also need to practice in my rudiments. There are some difficult to do. |

Haha, you play rudments too, good man. I was too lazy to learn those when I started :( |

Well, I need to practice them more but sometimes i get sick of them and try to play For Whom The Bell Tolls. I was also lazy at the beginning, i just started practising them like 2 weeks ago but i have to practice them more. |
Awww, music n00bs don't like to practice?
/:p Truth be told, practicing is becoming annoying for me as well, since my teacher has eclipsed simple arpeggios into leading into chord tones using every note in the chromatic scale in just one week. My poor brain can't retain all that information. :( |
I'm super lazy. I procrastinate waaaaaaaaay too much.
|
Speaking of learning songs, lately I've been learning a few Necrophagist songs. As far as bass goes, I'm trying to get "Only Ash Remains" down. Next is the guitar solo on "Fermental Offal Discharge", although I might have to learn it on bass (which will be hard to sweep pick on, due to a lack of strings) if I can't get a guitar from my friend.
I don't think I'll be successful with either due to the increasing amount of pain in my wrists (I think I'm developing carpal tunnel). |
Yes. :p (actually if you play DM you have to be really relaxed and have great technique because if you aren't using wrists and fingers as opposed to arms you won't be able to stay caught up.
Oh, touche.
Haha, yeah, when I take Drum playing seriously I'll take your advice, but as I only play guitar and bass (seldomly) I'll just keep that in mind. ;) |
I dont like to do exercises for stick holding and other stuff like hitting the hi hats but later i noticed that the sticks are all messed up when I first used them like three weeks ago and two days later they broke. That's when i decided to improve my holding technique and now the sticks last more then usual.

After two years of playing I finally decided that I need to learn some full songs. I think there are great benefits from learning complete songs I like even if they aren't the most challenging thing ever. I'm no shredder (yet) so trying to learn CoB songs got me very discouraged, so I set my sights much lower to an At the Gates song. Very easy, this shoul improve my stamina and ability to keep playing at one level for an extended period of time.

I couldn't believe the idiots posting in that Zakath thread there...
Zakath, for one... :p Seriously though, the Cannibal corpse comments I feared were well in advance. So I made a point. |

Every time i try to learn a new, the few times I've tried:upset: , I dont set my goals too high and when i finish learning it i keep playing it for some time, practise some more and then try another song but this time more challenging. |
My latest attempt - Stare At The Sun by Thrice.
It's a lot harder than appears...the part under the chords in the chorus (for those who have heard it) requires a lot of repetition of finger position...which I'm not good at. :upset: I think the song that I've learned so far that is the most fun to play is The Wonders At Your Feet by Dark Tranquillity. Solo's easy and fun to play, and the riffs are awesome. I can fill in on drums if needed. Have the rudiments down...selftaught myself. :D Have a jazz kit at my house...the one with the ubersmall bass drums. Also can play bass pretty decently...have some slapping knowledge. Also know piano rudiments as well. |

That's my goal. Nail some songs and gradually progress. |

The riff I'm obsessed with learning (and can play poorly, but play) is the one at the end of "To Awake and Avenge the Dead" I wish I could play more of his stuff :-\ |

I want to learn these and play them perfectly:
Opeth - The drapery falls, the leper affinity Racer X - scarified Those are my current obsessions. Yep. Guitar is too tough, I mightm ove on to bass.
His mighty force of closet Homosexuality will overwhelm us!
. It's fun to think we can respond to his abuse now with that situation. |

Definitely a good way to go. Lately I've been finding learning songs note-for-note to be a tiring enterprise. I learn enough to get the gist of it and then fake my way through it...I think it's because with many of the bands I enjoy there is more than one guitar part, and so I tend to just write my own stuff. One thing I've been doing a lot of is "squealing" harmonics on the lower strings. I love it when metal guitarists drag those out by bending them up and vibratoing heavily. Awesome stuff. EDIT: Dude, the Leper Affinity is SUCH a fun song to play. I play along with the recording and I feel just like Peter. Opeth songs are actually much easier to play than they sound. Generally speaking, they're given over primarily to chord riffing and straight strumming. The only catch is picking which part to play. But there's a really accurate guitar transcriber on taborama.com I think, who's got fantastically accurate transcriptions of Opeth's best songs. Check it out. |
The better I get the more I enjoy 'practicing' as well as just sitting down and playing, as far as drums go.
Guitar I play every now and then, but I've never really gotten very good. I just can't get into it like I can drumming. I just joined a band last night, which is really cool. |
