Firecracker 10-02-2005 10:02 AM

I'm getting a new guitar soon, i'm fed up with my old one, it's getting rubbisher and rubbisher.

Played football today, and i really despise it when players start cheating just because they know the opposition is better than them. We beat this side who have a complete academy going, and we beat them 6-2, and one of their goals was a penalty which shouldn't have been one.

Mute Print 10-02-2005 10:04 AM

 I just noticed that Kif has stars! He deserves them.

Gnarmageddon 10-02-2005 10:04 AM

Nice job on the stars, Kif. :chug:

Brian: Sounds cool. Go for it.

Nicky: Sucks.

Firecracker 10-02-2005 10:07 AM

Haha, nice cartoon Kif.

Angry Balled Fists! 10-02-2005 10:17 AM
Hello everyone.

I just found out that there is a place around here where I can get a free acoustic guitar, and eight 30 minute lessons for $120. I think I'm probably going to try it, as I've wanted to learn guitar for a while.
I just realized the $20 for half an hour my drum teachers charges is a shitload.! I am glad my mum wants me to take lessons.

Dead Star 10-02-2005 10:45 AM

Haha, in Ocarina of time, I named Link, Jism.

And everytime someone talks to him its quite amusing.

Untitled 10-02-2005 10:51 AM

How many times a week?

BridgeToSolace 10-02-2005 11:01 AM
How many times a week?
Lessons are generaly once a week.

Understanding In a Crash 10-02-2005 11:02 AM

Then $20 in a 5 week period for a half an hour is about AVERAGE. Usually they don't go paying be lessons but by monthly so anything thats $80-$100 for a month is extremely high IMO, but to the standards its average. Anything more better be getting lessons from Petrucci or Satch.

Mute Print 10-02-2005 11:04 AM

The lessons I'm looking into are once a week for eight weeks. It's like $15 per lesson, and I get a free acoustic guitar. It should be really cool.

Gnarmageddon 10-02-2005 11:05 AM

What brand of guitar is it?

You wont learn anything good in eight lessons. Just learning how to read notes and where the notes on the guitar are. You can learn that on the internet for free.

Took me almost 30 lessons to get to the good stuff (essentially improvising and writting in key).

It allowed to write and improvise most of this stuff - http://www.myspace.com/freetobreathe (new recording!)

Yeah, I'm a whore. :smoke:

(Then again, my teacher is a by-the-books guy. My friend's teachers who make up their own lessons seem get taught better)

Understanding In a Crash 10-02-2005 11:08 AM

I used to do whatever the hell I wanted when I got lessons. Sometimes if I just wanted him to transcribe a song I'd do that, techniques, scales... all of that, the lessons were really unorthodox but I thought it beat going by a book that would of milked my money because I'd be learning how to read notes for 2 months.

Mute Print 10-02-2005 11:10 AM
What brand of guitar is it?
Eh, the ad says it's a full-size dreadnought guitar (a $90 value).

But it's free, and I'm sure it will be good enough for taking lessons.

Jon: I plan on taking more than eight lessons. That's just how many are part of the deal.

Kif 10-02-2005 11:10 AM

I've never taken lessons, and I consider myself an OK guitarist.

Yeah, pretty much :(

Learning to read and recognize notes and stuff helps for playing in key though.

For example, I write a lot of stuff in the key of G (it's nice and metally while still being melodicy). That means I can play any regular note (A B C D E F G), just as long as I flat the B. If you can't recognize where all the notes on the guitar are, then you can't really do that well.

I wish my lessons had been more like yours, though.

You suck at guitar, Kif.

Ah. Cheers, then.

My acoustic is a 150$ or so black Hohner.

I've never heard of the brand before either, but it's a **** fine acoustic. The action is great, and it's taken a lot of abuse and still sounds nice.
I've never taken lessons, and I consider myself an OK guitarist.
Neither have I, and I own most people I know. Except for one guy who is about equal to me, but we are both better in different aspects.
Not having lessons means my theory isn't up to scratch though, which I will improve this year.

Untitled 10-02-2005 11:19 AM

Ive never had guitar lessons, and i own people on guitar, and im not even a guitarest. Some guy i know admited that i pity him on guitar, and now he won't admit he said it, even though my whole band witnessed it when he decided to come watch us practice.

That Jon, is the familiar sound of no one caring.

Thanks for playing :)

I could totally go theory bitch on you right now, but I won't because I don't really care yet I still somehow care enough to inform you of the fact that I could go theory bitch on you so I'm still kind of being a dick. Sorry.

Skidmark Steve 10-02-2005 11:39 AM

You dont really need guitar lessons. I took them for a couple of days and i quit after i got the basic stuff down.

Nightvision 10-02-2005 11:59 AM

I also have never taken a lesson - although I am considering getting guitar lessons thrown in with some singing lessons I'm taking shortly. :)

Angry Balled Fists! 10-02-2005 12:06 PM

I'm learning how to read proper music, all the scales, theory and stuff now.

It's important really.

My lessons are 15 quid a lesson a week.

Mute Print 10-02-2005 12:13 PM

Dan, do you still need Dude Ranch, Miss Machine, and As The Eternal Cowboy?

I can send them to you over AIM now if you still do.
