Shuda tryed the AAX studios. They do cut. Very very nice crashes

mullets suk 09-30-2007 05:23 PM

if anyone remembers my thread about the pst5's that deal fell though, the store already sold them. ive been listening to a lot of the recordings on the Paiste website. i really like the sound of the there 13" trad, but the price tag is pretty steep. are there any other cymbals that has the same sound, but are a little bit cheaper. my price range can go up to $200 at most. (company and quality doesn't matter)

spirit 09-30-2007 07:58 PM

Well, I'll listen to the 13" Trad, and have a think.

They seem to be solid sounding, fairly rocky hats. I'd have thought that Zildjian A's and Sabian AA's would probably cut it. Possibly you could think about Dream Contact cymbals, or perhaps even the Energy series. The Energy's may be machine hammered, but it's the sound that matters.

I'll edit in any other thoughts as they occur to me.

EDIT: Dream Contact's certainly seem to be more within your soundscape. May I suggest www.frontrangebronze.com

Check out their selection, and if in doubt, or interest, contact the man running the site. He'll be able to help you.

Personally, I find Sabian cymbals typically sound too bright. That's not a slight against Sabians. One of my rides is an HH Raw Bell Dry Ride. My first Pro ride actually, and I really like the Evo hats and 18" crash. That said, for the sound you're going for, and the price range you've set, I doubt Sabian will help, certainly not new. Second hand may be of interest to you. eBay as well.

As far as Zildjians go, the A series seems to be your best bet, and for particular hats, I'd suggest the New Beat, Quick Beat and Mastersound Ranges. Perhaps the new Armand series as well.

In any case, with possible Dream exception, for the price range you've set, you should be scouring eBay, as well as your local second hand paper.

Speaking of Ebay, I had a look on eBay.com, and I came up with these result of the first page that may be of interest to you:

Hope this helped.

mullets suk 10-01-2007 06:35 AM

yea that really helped, unfortunately ebay is not my first option. Ill look though my local drum stores, and newspapers. i think im going to have to wait till Christmas and buy then. Its the cymbal types that really helped.

spirit 10-02-2007 06:18 PM

I'm glad I helped, but if I may ask, why's eBay being ruled out?

mullets suk 10-02-2007 06:24 PM

my parents don't trust ebay. if it was up to me ill buy from there on most of my purchases, but since its not i cant.

sucks dont it.

spirit 10-02-2007 06:25 PM

What the hell? What's not to trust? If they don't trust eBay, how come they trust the internet?

Don't let them read this post.

White 10-02-2007 06:38 PM

Meh, I still don't trust ebay all that much, I trust an online store more, but still it's just cause Ebay you're dealing with regular ppl, not professionals, they could be crooks, scam artists, etc. Going with an online store you have the added comfort lol.

spirit 10-02-2007 06:47 PM

Well, I bought a cymbal from eBay.com (Note, not my local eBay) last week. I'm still waiting it's arrival, but I have no fear. If it's not arrived by the end of this week, then I'll be worried.

White 10-02-2007 06:59 PM

oh I use Ebay all the time, but I have had a case with an ebay store where the product was never sent and there was no communication,

Currently I'm waiting on

My New Double Pedal
China
Splash

but it shall come haha

spirit 10-02-2007 07:02 PM

Well, you probably know the guy I bought from. Hazelshould. 2009 sales, 100% Feedback.

Like I said, I'm not worried. :D

White 10-02-2007 07:06 PM

I may have bought a Stand off him, I 4get though lol, a good seller that always ahs good gear for chap is Drumhig I tihnk his shiz is stolen but I don't give a damn haha I got my drums for 180$+shipping haha, and have you seen my drums? lol.

spirit 10-02-2007 07:09 PM

I don't recall them, to be honest, but at that price, it doesn't matter what they are, does it?

White 10-02-2007 08:35 PM

nah lol, and they arn't a business, it's just one guy who occasionally has a wide variety of great gear for cheap. Look him up from time to time you'll find sweet deals.

Drum Phil 10-03-2007 04:33 AM

You're optimistic.

It can take up to 6 months for things to ship from the USA unless you payed more than the cymbals worth for it to be air cargo.

I would never order a cymbal from abroad unless you had major insurance.

Taffer 10-06-2007 06:40 AM

I'm looking for a crash - maybe a 17", as I have a 16" already - just to add some variety haha.

I play metal music, at gigs, and I'm looking in the Sabian AAX range. But my problem is, I have no idea which one to choose! Either Stage, Studio, AAXplosion or AAX metal (which I hear is the one I should go for). Any ideas/comparisons?

bobby__johnny 10-06-2007 09:44 AM

i wouldnt focus too much on the specific size, but rather the general tone itself.

as for playing live, in your styles, i'd look towards the AA Medium/Rock models. they're a little more versatile than the AAXplosion or Metal series i find.

especially in an unmiced environment - the AAXplosions are a bit too fast to get a full tone out when your fighting with loud guitars and such.

Tim 10-07-2007 01:35 AM

18inch AA medium thin crash would be perfect. those things cut like crazy. I used to have one but i sold it to a friend in need for a good price. they are somewhat versatile.
18inch AA medium thin crash would be perfect. those things cut like crazy. I used to have one but i sold it to a friend in need for a good price. they are somewhat versatile.
Just what i was thinking. I own one myself and wouldnt change it for anything else.

bobby__johnny 10-07-2007 10:21 AM

i almost bought a 17" the other day...

ant_182 10-07-2007 02:24 PM

19" A Custom Crash. I have the 17" and it sounds gorgous... on its own. But it doesnt cut through the 18" Dark K's I have. would the 19 cut it? I loved the 17" sound, not the 18" and I liked the 19" when i tried them. Any advice guys?

drummguy731 10-07-2007 04:47 PM

My 20" cuts pretty nicely.

On a side note, that's rather odd because my 18" Fast Crash cuts well.

Panopticon 10-07-2007 05:36 PM

my 18" fast crash cuts too...and i have 18 and 19" aaxplosions.

ant_182 10-08-2007 11:25 AM

Yeh, my 18 cut fine, but it seems like the 17" A Custom Doesn't have the power maybe the K's have too much power?

little_drummer_boy1 10-14-2007 01:51 PM

would 13" hhx groove hat be a good match with hhx studio crashes(16,17,18), i have tried out the hats in the store, but not with my cymbals(they dont have them in stock)
if it helps, i play fusion/rock

also is there is slightly less pingy hh raw bell dry ride?

little_drummer_boy1 10-14-2007 02:16 PM

i was also looking at 13" aax studio hats, but i think they might be a bit bright

Aaron 10-14-2007 07:13 PM

HHX Groove Hats would be the better choice. I prefer the bigger Studio Crashes 17" and up. If you're into Sabian rides, check out the 21" HH Vintage Ride. They'd match up with the HHX well.

herostyle 10-15-2007 09:49 AM

I'm finally upgrading from my ZXT Zildgian hi-hats! My current cymbal set-up is those hats, 17 inch medium thin sabian aa crash, 16" AAX Studio Crash, 21" Sabian AA raw bell dry ride, XS20 10" splash. I play lots of jazz and funk grooves and I'm upgrading my hats tomorrow. I was thinking of the Fusion AA hats or the stage/studio hats. I'm looking for a good "chink" like sound. Please help me!

herostyle 10-15-2007 09:56 AM

I was also thinking of some HHX hats as well. Any suggestion my price range is up to 370 something

Drum Phil 10-15-2007 10:25 AM

You're upgrading tomorrow and you dont know what to?

I'd say thats a bit quick. I tend to test cymbals at least 3 times before i buy.

But anyway:

14" Sabian HHX Power Hats
14" Sabian AA Flat Hats
13" Zildjian K/Z Dyno Beats
13" Meinl Byzance Fast Hats

herostyle 10-15-2007 10:36 AM

Well not necessarily tomorrow, I would like to but it might not be time yet, your right. I've tested the 13" AA Fusion hats a couple times and the AA Regular hats. I would like to hear how the HHX hats sound. Are they good with grooves?

Seafroggys 10-15-2007 10:39 AM

New Beats

Drum Phil 10-15-2007 10:41 AM

I would imagine so.

Im gonna have to say though, i think the Byzances would be perfect.

herostyle 10-15-2007 10:44 AM

I'll check out the byzances definately. This is kind irrelevant to the topic, however, any recommended hi-hats stands that fall in the price range of 100-150? Mine is about to fall apart:mad:

Drum Phil 10-15-2007 10:46 AM

150 what?

Pound?

Dollar?

Ruble?

Yen?

herostyle 10-15-2007 02:46 PM

Oh, dollars. Sorry, thanks a lot for helping me by the way Phil.

Drum Phil 10-15-2007 02:49 PM

In that case im not sure, but for about £150 you can get an elim :p

Its no problem. Its what the forums are for.

herostyle 10-15-2007 03:04 PM

I've heard the AA Fusion 13" hats are pretty versatile. I'm going to looking into them more, but I went down and tried out the HHX 13" groove hats and they sound amazing.

little_drummer_boy1 10-15-2007 03:16 PM

what are some comprable sabian hihats to paiste signature 13 sound edge or 2002 13 medium?

(maby a little less bright)

Drum Phil 10-15-2007 03:23 PM

2002 might be something like AA Fusion Hats
Signature is gonna be something from HHX.

Why sabian though? Why not just get the paistes?
