I dunno, Time, Echoes, Money, Comfortably Numb, Pigs (3 Different Ones), and Dogs are all pretty good too, but Wish You Were Here is definetly an exceptional album.
Yea I'm getting ready to record with my band (nothing like pink floyd)
but I love listening to that album and thinking how long they were in the
studio working on that album, I'm extremaly influenced by them I'm contantly
working through all their albums

thickasabrick 08-04-2005 01:06 PM
Any of the songs off of the Wish You Were here album are undoutably the greatest pink floyd songs known to man.
And YOU know it
I think you are both right and wrong, but it's a trick question. The truth is that every album holds all of Pink Floyds best. I think PATGOD, Saucerful of Secrets, Meddle, DSOTM, and The Wall can all easily rival Wish You Were Here...but I couldn't choose a favourite. I really think Saucerful of Secrets is amazing.

Britton 08-04-2005 01:49 PM

Syd was the Bomb!

robo2448 08-04-2005 04:08 PM

I'd say all the songs on Wish You Were Here are very close to Floyd's best except Welcome to the Machine. I really love that song, but it isn't quite as good as the others. But a lot of songs can be considered Floyd's best. In fact, I think a few people in here even feel that Welcome to the Machine is their favorite Floyd song. WYWH is such an amazing album.

Edit- I forgot to mention that I just got The Wall (the movie). It's awesome. Pretty creepy.

Flaminghotchino 08-04-2005 04:36 PM

Wish You Were Here was the first pink floyd album I heard, and definately the best as far as an entire album goes imo. However with a band like floyd it is really tough to say, they cover such a wide range of sounds, When I discovered Syd Barret it was like rediscovering the band.

Lets just say Pink Floyd is the one of the best bands ever, thats something we can all agree with.

123. The Wall is an awesome movie.

DeusExMachina 08-04-2005 06:14 PM

The Wall is definitely a great movie. WYWH was my favorite album for awhile, but I think I'm going to take a step in the noobish direction and say that DSOTM might be my current favorite Pink Floyd album. I hadn't listened to it in awhile, and listening to it again was almost like listening to it for the first time. It's just brilliant.

Rothmans 08-04-2005 06:26 PM

I hated DSOTM at the start for some reason then I gave it a few more spins and now I love it us and them is amazing.

Not a big fan of money for a PF song its repetitive.

robo2448 08-04-2005 07:33 PM

WYWH has always been my favorite. Right now though, Animals may be catching up to it. When I first heard DSOTM, the only songs I immediately liked were Time and Us and Them. Then, I started liking it more, but there were still a few songs I didn't really like. I decided to buy WYWH, and once I heard that album, I got much more into DSOTM and all of Floyd.

DeusExMachina 08-04-2005 08:03 PM

The Wall was the first Floyd album I ever heard, and it was my favorite up until I got WYWH. Then that became my favorite, then I started getting more into their earlier stuff and less into the Wall.

Yeah I don't like Money off the album, but I love it off of the DSOTM tour bootleg I have or a Delicate Sound of Thunder. There is a lot more jamming in the song in those recordings that make it seem less repetitive.

Flaminghotchino 08-04-2005 08:08 PM

The Wall is great, but if you want to get into Pink Floyd for the Pink Floyd sound rather then the Roger Waters sound then Dark Side of the Moon is closer to that then the Wall. Though if you don't like Dark Side of the Moon, but want to get into Pink Floyds sound I would recommend Wish You Were Here.

zetabossio 08-04-2005 09:00 PM

1)The DIvision Bell
2)AMLOR
3)The wall
4)The final cut
5)Atom heart mother

im the only who posted those ones

Flaminghotchino 08-04-2005 09:45 PM

^ Rare Choices Indeed...

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-04-2005 10:06 PM

1. Animals
2. WYWH
3. The Division Bell
4. DSM*
5. The Wall

*I've decided that DSM is a more appropriate acronym for Dark Side of the Moon, because DSotM looks rather ridiculous, but DSM gives the illusion of power and well, it looks much cooler.

Otherside 08-04-2005 10:10 PM

1.Meddle
2.WYWH
3.Animals
4.The Wall
5.DSotM

I have yet to pick up PATGOD, so that's probably why it isn't up there.

WheepingGuitar39 08-04-2005 10:20 PM

i love all their albums, but if i have to give it an order..

1) Animals
1) Momentary Lapse of Reason
1) Division Bell
1) The Wall
1) Wish You were Here
1) DSM :p dr.jake
1) Meddle

i love em all

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-04-2005 10:21 PM

I looked at PATGOD today while I was at Best Buy, but I just couldn't bring my self to buy anything. I have clue why either. I mean, I've been working like crazy, and it's like I have a shortage of cash anyways.

Maybe I'm saving up for something and I don't even know it.

Lunch 08-04-2005 10:22 PM

Wish You Were Here
Animals
PATGOD
The Wall
Obscured by Clouds

magicbus 08-04-2005 10:36 PM

Ummagumma
The Wall

In that order too. I guess.

pigonthewing82 08-05-2005 12:13 AM

Yeah I mean there are songs from albums that I like better then the songs on Wish You Were Here, but overall I think that is there strongest album. I mean Shine On You Crazy Dimond (all parts) is somthing almost beyond music.

PinkFloyd 08-05-2005 12:45 AM

1) The Wall
2) DSM ;)
3) Animals
4) Wish You Were Here
5) Final Cut
6) Meddle

ThePiperAtTheGates 08-05-2005 01:09 AM

This is my "Greatest albulm list" some of it is opinion, some not.

1. Dark Side (no two ways about it, its the albulm that defines floyd)
2. Piper at the Gates (best psychedelic albulm made)
3. wish you were here (a touching albulm, shine on is a master piece)
4. Meddle (it has echoes, which is the one song that defines floyd)
5. The Wall (great album in general)
6. Animals (dogs and pigs three different ones are awesome songs)

Pretty sweet first post, huh?

moaner 08-05-2005 08:54 AM

1. Dark side is a great album, however overplayed and overliked it is
2. WYWH
=. Meddle- Both albums with some really, really good stuff and some so so stuff
4. Obscured by clouds
5. Animals
6. Ummagumma (live half)

My favourite pink floyd "release" (if you will) is Live at pompeii, but that's not an album...

moaner 08-05-2005 08:57 AM
Well Seamus was voted the worst Pink Floyd song ever....
by who?

I'd say its better than every song off the final cut and momentary lapse, and its not even that good a song.

What about "Bring the boys back home" or any of that filler on the wall?

The people that'd vote that as the worst pink floyd song ever should really listen to a bit more of their non mid-era stuff.

moaner 08-05-2005 11:11 AM
I'm pretty sure that Seamus was called the worst Floyd song ever in a Q special edition last year, although I think it had "won" that title in some earlier poll as well. I really disagree personally...I'd say that it's quite a good song. Bring The Boys Back Home is part of one of the most perfect sequences in music ever (side 1 of disc 2 of The Wall, so it gets my approval) Besides, I think Roger called it the most important song on there before. I don't know what Floyd's worst song is, but I'd say something off A Momentary Lapse Of Reason too.
when i burned myself a copy of the wall, i left off bring the boys so i could fit it all on one disc.

/accidental burn of roger

Drugstep 08-05-2005 11:19 AM

That's actually a good idea, but if I do like some more songs I would try to buy it for cheap off the internet instead of burning it so I can look at pretty pictures.

Drugstep 08-05-2005 11:34 AM

YOu could skim the last five or so seconds off of each track, but I wouldn't bet on that working.

moaner 08-05-2005 12:08 PM

Blasphemy!

If I had to do that, I don't know what song I'd leave off...probably something off the second half of Disc 1, maybe Another Brick In The Wall (Part 3) or something like that. It would be really hard to leave anything off and make the album sound right though. :-/
no way! You can't leave off part 3...

I guess i could leave off the trial.

Fooled you...

wtf, Sorrow is a great song. So much better than Seamus.

ThePiperAtTheGates 08-05-2005 12:27 PM
Well Seamus was voted the worst Pink Floyd song ever....
I heard they did that song as a joke-to be funny. But no one thought it was funny.

DeusExMachina 08-05-2005 02:38 PM

In 1989, some Pink Floyd fan magazine voted Seamus the worst Pink Floyd song. They also voted The Final Cut as the worst album, even though the editors of the magazine voted it the best album.
