^ It would have been good to hear Clives drumming with the level and quality of production on the DoD album, but i must say, i prefer Nickos drumming
Quality of DoD production.. to me its sounds compressed.. not like one guitar to the left, one in the middle, one on the right, the drums in the middle below the guitar and the bass above the middle guitar.. it sounds like all is just crashed into one place at the same volume...

The Mercenary 12-21-2004 08:19 AM

^ i know what you mean, it does sound a little overdone, but i think what i meant (and should have) said was id like to have heard clives drumming recorded at this quality....
And while I feel that Nicko IS the better drummer, clive came up with more inventive drum beats, that I can't argue.
i agree......anyway clives struck down with MS now isnt he

Josh 12-21-2004 09:29 AM

a lot of clives drumming is much more technical, but nicko's bass triplets in out of the silent planet own.

supreme maidenite 12-21-2004 09:42 AM

nicko is really fast on his bass drum, one of few metal drummers using a single pedal/bass drum

RideTheTiger 12-21-2004 09:43 AM

Transylvania is the best song ever!

supreme maidenite 12-21-2004 09:57 AM

Hmmmmmm....i like phantom of the opera on the beast over hammersmith album best

Josh 12-21-2004 12:48 PM

i disagree with transylvania being best song ever. POTO is far better.
Eddie: i agree with you about the production quality on DoD squashing all the sound together, but its still one amazing album.

Lateralias 12-21-2004 01:00 PM

Phantom of the Opera is a superb song, so much fun to play on guitar.

Thunder Fingers 12-21-2004 01:02 PM

my favorite Maiden songs to play on Bass: Phantom and Rime.. they are purely AWSOME songs.. and great fun to play...,...(wow...dejavu...)

Josh 12-21-2004 01:08 PM

when i get round to getting a bass what maiden song should i learn first?

Josh 12-21-2004 01:08 PM
when i get round to getting a bass what maiden song should i learn first?
Great songs to play on Bass are: Revealations, The Trooper, Run To The Hills, POTO (Triplets are a bugger), Flight of Icarus, Infinite Dreams and Heaven Can Wait.

Heaven Can Wait was the first song I learned on Bass, it's really easy, 'cept for the solo bit...

supreme maidenite 12-21-2004 03:16 PM

phantom of the opera is fun to play on drums......and so is aces high

IheartSP 12-21-2004 03:18 PM

im writing a song in guitar pro is has a maiden feel to it, i think its pretty cool.

Ill send anyone the midi if they want to hear.

btw maiden rules! I also find it hilarious how bad the singing is on Children of Bodoms maiden covers, but the instruments are still good (I love their solo on Aces High)

supreme maidenite 12-21-2004 03:20 PM

when my band play aces high i think it sounds good on the bass

ashman 12-21-2004 03:26 PM

All Maiden Bass is good :thumb:
In Rock in Rio, H says "If you party non stop for five months, you'll be dead". That's what Burr did. He went out and partied everynight on the beast on the road tour, and supposedly he even played one gig with a bucket next to the snare coz he kept throwing up. It had such an effect on him that he and the band wisely split ways - he had no control over himself and if he would have stayed in maiden he would have gone the way of Kieth Moon.

And while I feel that Nicko IS the better drummer, clive came up with more inventive drum beats, that I can't argue.
Hehe, thanks ! So it was mostly because of his drinking problem. Too bad, I think Clive was the man. I can't stop listening to early Maiden. He's got so much of drive. Yes, if he stayed, we wouldn't have Nicko today. I admit, Nicko is a fantastic drummer. I'm no drummer so I simply can't say which one of them is more technical, but I'll never agree that Nicko ever had so much of drive and energy in his playing as Clive did. :thumb:

Anyway, we've got Nicko. And he's the best drummer to fit Maiden

ashman 12-21-2004 04:22 PM

I don't think you can really compare Clive to Nicko. They have different sounds.

I do dabble in the Black art that is known as Bass...

I've been playing Bass for about a year and a half. I mainly play Guitar, but Bass is starting to be my true love. Infinite dreams is my favourite by far. :thumb:

IheartSP 12-21-2004 04:58 PM

i bought rock in rio just half an hour ago, but i dont think im going to watch it till christmas break

btoto 12-21-2004 05:06 PM

By the way, I was just curious, are all maiden members pure english??? or some of them are scottish, irish or someone else??? :thumb:

ashman 12-21-2004 05:49 PM

I can't remember, I think so. I think Janick has some other stuff in there somehere.

btoto 12-21-2004 05:55 PM

ashman 12-21-2004 06:11 PM
^ah yea, I think he has Polish roots or something like that
I can't actually find anything about it, been searching for about 30 minutes and nothing. I know Steve is 100% British and so is H.

ashman 12-21-2004 06:24 PM

I just found out that the FOTD Album cover was done by another guy instead of Derek Riggs... :O

ashman 12-22-2004 04:43 AM
