Any (hed)pe fans? I used to really dig them way back.
they're not really "rap/hip hop" more like "nu metal" or "rap/rock"

Hip hop fans...

Why aren't you in that J.Dilla thread?!

He provided so many sick beats to groups/emcees like A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, etc...

Rest in Peace, J. Dilla aka Jay Dee

agreatfan 02-13-2006 10:21 PM
Can someone reccomend me something similar to Public Enemy or NWA? :thumb:
first obvious one would be "dead prez". check out "onyx" too. onyx is the closest thing the east coast had to a gangtsa rap supergroup in the early 90's. definitely the prequel to whats poppin now in ny rap. i think 50's first video appearance was on a "onyx" track.

agreatfan 02-13-2006 10:25 PM

Isnt Eazy-E part of NWA.

agreatfan 02-13-2006 10:53 PM

Whats the best Street CD U ever bought ???

I know everyone has bought a cd off a up & coming artist in the street. I bought a cd off this kid the other day while in NYC. DAMN, dude is crazy. Check him out!!!

Word, you guys are really sleeping on him. He was one of the truely great producers and a pioneer.

R.I.P.

Amit 02-15-2006 08:21 AM

Has anyone ever heard of Nujabes?

Bartender 02-15-2006 08:24 AM

I think a couple of people around here rate his 2005 album quite highly.

I'm yet to hear it, though.

Amit 02-15-2006 08:30 AM

IM or email me sometime :-P

JonM 02-15-2006 10:36 AM
Has anyone ever heard of Nujabes?
Yeah, they're all right. Their records are very relaxing, but not terribly innovative, and the rapping is the weakest part.

Salshen 02-15-2006 06:05 PM

I'm sure there are plenty of Wu-Tang fans here, but anyone else here into Gravediggaz? 6 Feet Deep is incredible, but is their second album worth buying?

Robert Crumb 02-15-2006 11:12 PM

If you're into the first one, yeah but past that point, it's all caveats.

Zengeance 02-16-2006 02:10 AM

I've been listening to cLOUDDEAD... after a while Odd Nosdam's voice is almost welcoming. Also I got Vast Aire's album "Look Mom... No Hands" Since I looooooved Can Ox's Cold Vein and so far it's the worst underground hip hop cd I've ever heard in my life.

Also been listening to... Typical Cats, Sole, and Sage Francis. I've been on a hip hop spree as of late.

ATM 02-16-2006 05:52 PM

Is the newset Nujabes better then Metaphorical Music?

Delay Pedal Boy 02-16-2006 07:52 PM

cLOUDDEAD are so dope. (I have their self-titled)

DrownedThought 02-19-2006 01:21 AM

Jurassic 5- Power By Numbers

One of the greatest rap group cds I've heard. It doesn't have all the bling bling gangsta crap.

JonM 02-19-2006 01:55 PM
Is the newset Nujabes better then Metaphorical Music?
I can't decide. The rapping is slightly better, the music is about the same. I'd say yeah, go for the new one.

The rapping is the weakest part of MM. The beats are excellent, however.

JonM 02-20-2006 02:22 PM

Yeah. I wish I had the instrumentals. That would be tight.

Seed Awakening 02-20-2006 02:23 PM

Could somebody recommend some Tribe Called Quest for me?

tappenzee 02-20-2006 02:26 PM
Could somebody recommend some Tribe Called Quest for me?
You need Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders in your life. In that order. ASAP

Seed Awakening 02-20-2006 02:27 PM

I'll work on that.

antiant 02-20-2006 07:34 PM

and The Love Movement by ATQC just get them all
and The Love Movement by ATQC just get them all
What did you think of the Australian stuff I sent you?

tappenzee 02-21-2006 10:51 AM
and The Love Movement by ATQC just get them all
Coincidentally, their post-MM stuff introduces a young J Dilla (R.I.P.) to the beats

antiant 02-21-2006 06:39 PM
What did you think of the Australian stuff I sent you?
it's not bad at all when i get around to it i'm goin to have to check some more out...do you have any sites at all on the austrailian hip hop scene?

dUSK 02-21-2006 07:00 PM

http://www.ozhiphop.com is generally regarded as the best. It's managed by Mass MC.

I just found out Atmosphere is coming to Australia, but my city is being skipped. :upset:

antiant 02-21-2006 07:04 PM

thanks for the link...can't you go to the city it's playing in? or is it way too far?

dUSK 02-21-2006 07:09 PM

It's too far away. 900km's (just under 600 Miles in Yankee speak) seems a bit much. It'd be a damn good show though.

ATM 02-23-2006 08:59 AM

Speaking of Atmosphere, everyone needs to buy/download Sad Clown Bad Dub II. It's one of my top three favorite hip hop albums ever.

enjoimx 02-23-2006 02:45 PM

ahh, atmosphere, i havent picked up his latest album yet, is it pretty good?

antiant 02-23-2006 06:38 PM

it's ok, but don't expect it to be like his "older" material...if you can deal with that then go for it...in fact here's a sample of the album
