Yeah, Psyopus are amazing musicians, but not a very enjoyable listen. Their singer's really weak too. Ed Gein, on the other hand, rule.

Gotkookie 07-29-2004 12:27 AM

throwdown is definitley borderline hardcore, i mean hrrrm it sounds kind of hardcore yet they got the metalcore voice, and such

40 oz 2 freedom 07-29-2004 10:15 AM

Does anyone like the Banner? I recently got "Your Murder Mixtape" and I'm diggin' it.

Hey Mr. Light Man 07-29-2004 10:29 AM

Good afternoon.

I don't really like them, with the horror imagery and stuff. But a bunch of people on this board like them including cheeser and sk8ska.

phobiaholic 07-29-2004 12:26 PM
But don't worry about what's "real punk" and what's not man. Just listen to a bunch of bands, find out what you like, and just enjoy it for what it is.
Um.. shouldn't we all do this? i mean just listen to what we like and stop putting all of these labels out there, i think the majority of you guys just want to go "I'M HARDCORE AND COOLER THAN YOU, HAHA I KNOW MORE ABOUT MUSIC" but really .. shouldn't we stop turning music into fashion statements and stop judging people by what makes them feel good? (i hope this made sense cause i dont' reread much)

Good call bro. Screw the labels. Just listen to what you like...without slappnig a nametag on it..

BuddyBigsby 07-29-2004 01:38 PM
Maybe you should consider the rereading process. To use an argument I've used many time before, when people call me "a whiny fag" because I listen to emo (real emo mind you like Hot Cross) when in reality my music has more balls than the crap they listen to, their own ignorance and idiocy instigates an uncomfortable and unpleasant situation for me. Why should I have to endure insults just because the other person is wrong/a bigot? I shouldn't. This thread was originally about educating people about certain genres so that they understand what they're dealing with instead of just running their mouth. It has slowly mutated into a community thread.
Quoted because it might not be seen because it was the last post of the page.

And phobo... classifying music doesn't mean you don't enjoy it. Stop getting fussy because you don't know anything about genres.

I do, I like their ep more. They just signed to Ferret Records. They have another LP coming out on Blackside, it will have like 6 songs one of which will be a like 30 minute song.

Joey Southside (vocalist) is putting on an all NJ band fest in august, should be fun.

Sounds rad. When's it out?

Let's Chop Cats! 07-29-2004 04:52 PM

Donno yet, but if Joey ever posts anything about it on the other board I'm on I'll tell you.

pedro durruti 07-29-2004 06:23 PM

NewKindofArmy03 07-30-2004 06:11 PM

do any of you know a band called merauder? after hearing about them a lot from this other message board, i decided to check them out and can't stop playing the song. they're a really good metalcore band.

Let's Chop Cats! 07-30-2004 06:17 PM

Yeah, they have members of like Earth Crisis, Hatebreed and like another band. I had to miss them at hellfest.

cbmartinez 07-30-2004 06:52 PM

Link don't be workin'.

BuddyBigsby 07-30-2004 07:27 PM
Yeah, they have members of like Earth Crisis, Hatebreed and like another band. I had to miss them at hellfest.
What the? I thought Merauder were older than both those bands. Trippy.

Let's Chop Cats! 07-30-2004 07:32 PM

I donno, I may be thinking of a different band. I'm really confused right now, I can't even correctly name the movie I was just watching.

EDIT: Ahh I was thinking of Rag Men, which actually has a member of Merauder. I'm an idiot.

BuddyBigsby 07-30-2004 09:10 PM

Haha, yeah, that's what I was thinking "Did he mean Rag Men?". Yeah, same singer.

Hey Mr. Light Man 07-30-2004 09:11 PM

I was at an Only Crime show tonite and a kid passed out and wasnt breathing.

NewKindofArmy03 07-30-2004 09:14 PM

pedro durruti 07-31-2004 12:47 AM

DDDDDDDDD felon!

BuddyBigsby 07-31-2004 03:14 AM

NEW ACAPELLICA IS UP. It's a Nora cover this time. I know none of you probably bothered to click this when I pimped it before so here's the deal: I do covers using my voice to do all the instruments. Last one was "Nerdy" by Poison the Well and I just put up the Nora one tonight. Check it.
Me, Me, Me, & Me with the occasional guest appearance by Me
Heheh, I like that. I'm listening to it currently.

Edit: My god...

cbmartinez 07-31-2004 11:26 AM

Hahaha, that was so... disturbing. You are a strange man. You've got a nice scream though, doesn't really sound like Jeff from PTW no offence, but still nice. You have a little to much time on your hands. I throughly enjoyed the way you did the lead guitar on "Nerdy" and the Nora guitar line actually sounded real...

rjdxjpp 07-31-2004 01:38 PM

does it really matter wat catigory they are in if its good music then its good music if its bad music then dont listen to it

Anxious 07-31-2004 02:01 PM

no deal

NewKindofArmy03 07-31-2004 04:25 PM

i picked up the new unearth cd today. i never listened to them until two days ago, and i think they sound a lot like killswitch engage. i need to go to a local cd store so i can get the new terror cd for cheaper than $16.99.

Just heard Zao today from a metal hammer free disk thingy, just thought i'd say they rule!
I'm requesting "Panasonic Youth" by Dillinger Escape Plan. Have fun with that on Buddy. The best part will be when you break out some more high-pitched guitar.
Ahhhhhhhhh! If I do a DEP one, it will be "43% Burnt". I thought about doing that for a while, but it will take a long time. A simple song like Nora takes me a couple hours so...

cbmartinez 07-31-2004 09:20 PM

Do a A7X song, though the drums will be hard.

barfretchpuke 07-31-2004 09:56 PM

I haven't read all 28 pages (sheesh) so I don't know if this has already been said...

Where did the term "hardcore" come from?
When punk was declared dead (when the sex pistols broke up perhaps or was it when sid vicious o.d.'ed) back in the late 70s a lot of the original "punk" bands were "selling out" and becoming new wave bands. So any punk band that didn't become a new wave band was considered "hardcore". Back then these bands sounded nothing like what is considered hardcore today. So bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, The Exploited, GBH, Minor Threat, UK Subs, SUBHUMANS, Discharge etc, etc etc were considered hardcore. The glory days of hardcore were in 1982. It wasn't until later that two "camps" emerged. The straight-edge/newyork hardcore style originated by minor threat and carried on by the likes of agnostic front and slapshot and the metalish style originated by discharge.

Hope this makes sense...

Dear DFelon,

Your mom is totally overrated.

Well, in my defense I wasn't trying to sound like Jeff. None offense taken, though. I don't like the way my scream came out on it though. It's so hollow. Sounds like an old man.

cbmartinez 08-01-2004 09:54 AM

Yeah, the strange thing about me screaming is that I can't scream loud, which sounds like a oxymoron, but I just can't. To get a good low rumbling scream, I have to do it quietly. If I try to scream loud, it sounds horrible.
